Maya’s POV
I looked back at the door with panic as I packed my stuff into a bag. I had to leave here soon if I wanted to stay alive. Those sly girls. I shouldn’t have trusted them. They had gone to the palace to check out my story and ended up telling the palace guards what I had told them and now, those ones were at the door threatening to break it down if I didn’t open up and follow them to the palace at the order of the alpha’s father.
“Open this door, Maya. We know you are in there.” The head guard roared.
I shook my head, forcing myself to remain calm through the hysteria I felt. I wouldn’t be tricked. They couldn’t have known I was in here. I had seen them from afar before they got to the door and rushed to my bedroom to pack my stuff. I had been moving silently through the bedroom as I packed my stuff and dumped them into a travel bag. There was no way they could have heard me even with their supernatural hearing.
“Maya, by the order of the alpha, we demand that you open this door. You are needed in the palace.”
I was no fool. I knew what was going to happen to me if I went with them to the palace. I had been warned and still blasphemed against the royal family and spread rumors about the secret the palace was trying to protect. I would be lucky if I left the palace alive even though I was the sister to the pack’s general.
“We are forcing this door open now.”
I gasped as I heard those words and quickly hurled my bag off the bed, giving up on packing. I would go out through the back door and scurry to somewhere safe.
I knew Liam wouldn’t miss my absence much with how busy he was with royal assignments and being loyal to his friend and master. I might be nice enough to write a letter to him to tell him I was safe when I got settled where I run to.
I opened the back door and stilled as I saw the sight waiting for me. Those bastards. I sighed under my breath. They had surrounded the house and made me think they were only at the front door.
“Shall we go to the palace now, Maya?” The guard said as he smiled at me.
I couldn’t talk and watched as one of the guards yanked my bag away from my hand. I winced in pain but didn’t utter a sound. Guards flanked me on the sides, moved behind me and in front of me till I was totally surrounded. I had no way of escape.
I sighed, afraid of my life as we moved to the palace.
Kevin’s father was livid with rage by the time we got to the palace. The guard standing at the entrance of his study announced my arrival and I was pushed into the study.
I swallowed, feeling nervous at the glare he shot my way as his eyes fell on me. “I thought I told you not to cause trouble. Why were you going about saying things you know nothing about? I should cut your lips off as punishment.”
I quickly went down on my knees. “Have mercy on me, your majesty.”
He glared at me. “If not that your brother is a very loyal servant to my son and a good son to him, I would have ordered your execution.”
I was scared at his words but still relieved that he wasn’t going to kill me. I wondered though how he was going to punish me.
“I will have you sentenced to the solitary cave for fifty years. I’m sure your senses would start working when you don’t get to see anyone for that long. That should be enough for you to get over the bitterness you have for my family. At this rate, if you are not checked, you will either cause harm to yourself or to my family and I can’t have that. I hope by the time you get back to the society, you will know how to behave.”
“Your…”
“Guards!” He shouted, interrupting me. “Take her away and keep her chained in the solitary cave.” He ordered them.
I cried as the guards pulled me out before I could plead my case.
Ella’s POV
It was Melody’s sixth birthday party and it was an open one. I knew that the witch had been conquered but I still felt unsettled. I wondered if it was because I remembered Eliza’s prophecy that Melody would be killed by a gun and that wasn’t what happened. The witch hadn’t even used a gun. I wondered if the prophecy had changed or there were still danger lurking behind.
Whatever, we were here and glad Kevin insisted that we stay here to celebrate her party. It would have hurt me if we got home and found out that Melody eventually died in a gun riot without surviving her sixth birthday.
“Do you also feel something is odd?” Kevin asked as he moved towards me with Liam standing close to him.
I nodded.
Gabby moved towards us, stopping whatever it was Kevin had been about to say. “Why are you all standing here instead of having fun? You should interact with everyone and have a proper farewell party. Don’t worry, I didn’t tell anyone you are leaving tomorrow. They all think it’s Melody’s birthday party.” She chattered.
“We will soon.” Kevin said.
Gabby said and moved away to mix with her other guests.
Kevin turned to me. “I can sense someone bubbling with excess adrenaline.”
“Me too.” Liam said. “To the right,” he suddenly shouted.
We looked and saw a man hiding in the shadows, holding a gun. I gasped as we traced the aim of the gun and realized it was pointed at Melody. Fucking witch. She must have hatched a plan b before going after Melody.
“I will go after him.” Kevin said and ran off into the shadows.
I couldn’t stay still until Kevin was back. He gave me a wink and I eased out a breath I didn’t know I had been holding. The assassin had been gotten rid of. Melody was safe.
The birthday party was a success and we prepared to go home the next day. The kids clung to one another and couldn’t stop crying.
“I will miss you.” Melody said as she embraced the boys one more time.
“Don’t cry.” Neo said.
“I’m sure we will see one another again.” Nathan cried.
I nodded, certain that they would as I remembered the other part of the prophecy.
Finally, the kids stopped crying and we all exchanged our byes. It was time to go back home, where we rightfully belonged.
