Liam’s POV
I was sure Gabby would be suspicious of us at this rate and knew that there was something wrong with the way we were going frequently to her house for a visit but she didn’t say anything.
Well, she hadn’t said anything yet. She was busy fussing over her kid and making sure another episode like that didn’t repeat itself. I was worried for all of them but I was tired of everything.
It had been silent in the school and while taking them to school and back from it that I couldn’t help but wonder if the witches hadn’t found out where Melody schooled or just didn’t want to involve the other kids. I suspected that it was the latter. With how meticulous they were, I doubted that they hadn’t made their research to find out the school Melody went to.
I could bet my position in the pack that they knew everything about the little girl and didn’t want to attack when she was around other humans. Like us, they didn’t want their identities to be risked out in the open to the human world. The boys other day as well, they had done what they did to Melody when everyone in the neighborhood wasn’t around.
It was still ironic to me that Melody’s memories had been erased after the attack. I was certain that she had been attacked and wondered why she had been spared the horror of that day. If they were truly monsters and evil ones, shouldn’t they want her to remember them, have nightmares of that day and cower in fear.
I knew that was how evil people thought and acted and found it strange that they were different. The more I thought of them, the more I couldn’t understand them and hated it. I thought of Kenneth, the dead asshole who had been the leader of the rogues and wondered how he would have behaved. He would have wanted Melody to remember him and would get high at the thought of the little girl cowering in fear.
I scowled, my scowl etching deeper into my face than I intended it to go. Why couldn’t these bastards think like Kenneth would and be predictable?
Kevin sat beside me and sighed. “What are you thinking of?”
I almost rolled my eyes at his obvious question. What else would I think of at this time as we were seated here? “Melody. The damn witches and wizards.”
He sighed again. “It’s amazing how the little girl had taken over our hearts.”
“What else can we do? She is your kids’ mate.” I reminded him.
He sighed. “That is undecided yet. I would leave the future to play out on its own. The boys don’t have to know anything about this and they might end up living lives that are different from what the prophecy says.”
I doubted that as much as I knew he did but I wasn’t going to say anything against what he said. He was entitled to have hope as much as he wanted.
“Even asides that, Ella isn’t going to give up until she gains back the years you gave away.”
“That too.” He chuckled.
“Where is Ella?” I asked, looking around.
I had seen them last together talking and thought they would come out together. It was a surprise that they weren’t here together now.
He shook his head. “She is with Gabby. Gabby wanted to know how she knew the nurse the other day was there to hurt Melody.”
I nodded. That question was meant to have been asked a long time ago. “What is Ella planning to say? I thought she didn’t have a response yet.”
“She is going to tell Gabby that she is psychic and she knew the nurse was a fake from the aura she detected from her.”
I nodded. “Sounds like a good plan. It’s easy for a human to believe that she is psychic than deal with the truth of who we are, the world we came from and accept that they are witches and wizards trying to hurt her little girl because her destiny is connected to the boys.”
Kevin sighed. “She would send us out if she knew that.”
“I guess it’s going good.” I muttered, looking back at the door of the room where the girls were probably talking.
I hadn’t heard Gabby yelling and calling Ella crazy yet for saying that she was psychic and chasing her away out of her room.
“I guess.” Kevin agreed.
I felt a prickling sensation in the air and looked around. I felt the hairs at the back of my neck rise up in alarm and I knew that something was wrong. I glanced at Kevin and knew that he was feeling exactly how I felt. His expression had turned serious and his posture was set in a way that showed that he was ready for war.
“Speaking of psychics, do you sense something strange?” I asked him though I already knew the answer. I had seen the way he had went on full blown alert.
“Let us check what the problem is.” He said and stood up, moving closer towards the window. “This doesn’t seem natural.”
I nodded and followed him. I stood beside him by the window and peered outside, scanning the whole environment. I wasn’t surprised when I eventually found out what the problem was. There was a wizard standing right outside the apartment where Gabby lived and twirling his hands in the air in a circular motion as he fixed his gaze intently on the house.
It didn’t take me to have magic to know that he was casting spells on the house and was planning another on Melody from where he was. The wizard was different from the man I had seen watching over the house the other day and I wondered just how many those bastards were.
He was behind a tree and thought that he was in a position where he couldn’t be noticed by anyone but I wondered if he knew that werewolves were in the house, werewolves with highly observant eyes and determination to get rid of him.
His days had just been numbered. I looked at Kevin and nodded at him. “I will take care of him.”
“Do that.” He nodded.
I bowed and left the house quickly through the back door before it was too late. The wizard mustn’t be allowed to finish casting the spell.
I got outside and spotted him immediately. He was still busy with what he was doing which was exactly what I wanted and was so engrossed that he didn’t notice me coming. He couldn’t have noticed me coming anyways even if he wasn’t busy as I had gone into hunting mode and moving silently towards him like the predator that I was.
I moved behind him, pulled out my claws and dug it deep into his back before he could suspect my presence and react. He gave out a low cry as he combusted into flames and turned into ashes.
Those bastards really worked well on their plans of getting killed instead of arrested should they get caught. No one would suspect that he had been here. I turned as I walked back into the house with a smile.
Two down, and still counting as this war was far from over.
I reminded myself to tell Kevin and Ella that we needed to get wards and charms to protect everyone from those sorcerers. They were obviously going the extra mile to make sure that their plans succeeded. Nothing stopped us from doing the same. We didn’t have to depend on our claws and teeth alone as it was evident our opponents weren’t interested in having a physical battle with us.
