Ella’s POV
Melody stood before us and curtsied gracefully like the princess that she looked like. “Thank you for attending my party.” She said even before her mother said anything about who we were to her.
Her voice was just like her name; melodious and it sounded like angels were singing solemnly right where I was. I wondered how she would sound like if she was singing.
I wasn’t a witch but I could sense why the red witch wanted to protect this girl and decided we had to be the one to do it. If the ones who wanted to hurt her was from our world, it wasn’t a surprise why they would want her. There was a certain glow around her that would excited the evil people in our world. Even though I wasn’t a witch or wizard, I could tell at first glance that she was different.
It wasn’t about her voice, her manners or her beautiful face, it was her essence. She was pure and evil was always attracted to her kind.
I loved the girl immediately and I vowed at that moment that I was going to do everything it took to protect her so nothing would happen to her. She was a sweet girl and it was no secret that her mother had warmed her way into my heart as well.
I glanced at Gabby and nodded. She had raised a fine child. She caught my nod and smiled at me, her chest heaving with pride. I could relate to the motherly pride puffing her chest up. It was the same way I felt anytime someone gave the boys a compliment, said something nice about them, or was stunned by something that they did they hadn’t been expecting the boys to know of.
Gabby made the introduction as fast as she could and soon the kids left us to ourselves as Melody smiled at the boys and dragged them off to meet the others, inviting them to join her friends.
The boys were thrilled to meet many people of their ages after being stuck inside with three adults for days.
Soon, Kevin and Liam excused themselves to get some snacks and I was left alone with Gabby. I decided to engage her in conversations as I was curious to know why I hadn’t been able to find her with all my attempts. I found it crazy that I had visited all the schools in the vicinity and yet couldn’t find her.
Had she been sick? I wondered if that was why I hadn’t been able to find her. I knew without a doubt that it wasn’t her birthday yet so this couldn’t be a party to celebrate her birthday.
I bit down gently on my lower lip, mulling over how I was going to start the conversation with Gabby without sounding suspicious.
“Melody is pretty.” I began, hoping that my investigative skills hadn’t gone to rust.
“Thank you.” Gabby said, glancing at where her daughter was, watching out for her. Melody noticed her mother staring at her and smiled, waving back at her.
I also scanned the area for the boys and hid a smile to myself. They were busy having fun I knew they would drop off to sleep the moment we got home. They had made friends with the other children with Melody. I stared at them but they didn’t glance back at me.
I almost chuckled out loud if not that Gabby would wonder what was wrong with me and think I was crazy if I couldn’t tell her.
Those little scoundrels. I knew they knew that I was staring at them but didn’t bother to look back and wave at me as Melody had done. Even Melody who was human had felt her mother staring at her so I knew my boys who were werewolves had felt my gaze on them but hadn’t cared to look at me, knowing that I was the one.
Werewolves were sensitive to stuff like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if my boys had deleted me from their memories at that moment so they could enjoy the rare time they had to interact with kids.
Those little devils could be cold at times but I loved them like that.
“Which school does she attend?” I asked.
Gabby glanced at me, wondering why I was asking. “Is there a problem?”
“Nothing.” I shook my head. “I’ve been trying to find a school for the boys but I couldn’t decide. I was wondering if your girl schools here. Maybe having a recommendation would help me decide on time.”
“Oh!” She smiled. “I understand how you feel. I had a hard time as well before I finally decided on a school to register Melody in. Yes, she schools here but hasn’t been around for a while now and that is why I’m celebrating her tonight. She went on vacation to be with her father and just got back home. This is me throwing her a welcome home party and hoping I’m not too dramatic as a mother.” She chuckled. “It’s too late for that though and I’m glad she is having fun.”
She seemed to realize that she had gone off the trail of conversation and blushed, quickly catching herself. “Oh! I’m sorry I got carried away.”
I nodded to let her know that I was fine. I guessed I had gotten used to her already by now. “About the school, yes, I can recommend her school. Her school is nice and the academic curriculum is broad.”
She schooled here? I hoped that she didn’t attend the school the boys had fought with the students that was there. It would be a deal breaker if the school was where she attended as there was no way I could get them registered there. The boys wouldn’t go even if the principal was willing to overlook the fight and get them enrolled.
I didn’t think I was willing to have the boys attend the school as well. They had marked the boy who had insulted them the other day as an enemy and wouldn’t let it slide if they saw him again. I wasn’t about to let my boys be charged with murder or attempted murder or assault just because I wanted to save Melody. I wasn’t about to risk the life and freedom of my kids just to save some girl.
I shuddered as my subconscious reminded me that Melody wasn’t some girl but the mate of my boys. I wanted to pluck out my subconscious at that point.
“Are you okay?” Gabby asked, peering at me.
“Uhn?” I asked, looking confused.
“You shuddered as if you were in trance and saw a nightmare.” She explained.
I exhaled and sighed. I had no idea I had done that visibly. “Oh! Don’t mind me. That was a shiver, not a shudder. I am still trying to adapt to the cold weather here. Where we were before we moved here isn’t as cold as this place.”
“Oh! Sorry about that.”
“Thank you.” I said, a small smile playing on my lips. “You were trying to tell me the name of the school Melody attends.” I said, trying to shift the conversation away from me.
She told me the name of the school and I was relieved to know that it wasn’t the school the boys had fought in. It was time for our plans to kick-start. It was time for the boys to be students and Melody’s secret guardians at the same time.
