Kevin’s POV
Liam and I were at the supermarket to get some groceries and i hoped a disagreement didn’t come out of this. Ella would have come here by herself but the boys didn’t sleep as we had expected them to so she had to stay over and watch them.
Everything seemed strange as we moved through the aisle, watching the food items. We weren’t going to stay this long but it seemed like we have used almost an hour already and there was nothing in our basket. It would have been better if Ella had come here by herself since she was familiar with the human world more than we were. She had once helped out in the kitchen when she had been with the count and would have seen the things they brought from the supermarket as groceries. It wasn’t that I was proud of her stay there-as I always had to force myself to control my temper anytime I remember that my mate had once been taken as a slave by someone, a mere mortal man-but I felt she would be able to use the knowledge she had used in this scenario.
“When are you exactly are we buying what we came here to buy, my lord?” Liam whispered into my ear.
I hissed low under my breath, startled by the sudden voice in my ear and his mistake and glared at him. “I told you not to call me that in public when we get to the human world. You will get everyone’s attention on us.”
“That was why I whispered into your ear so no one would hear. Moreover, everyone’s attention is already on us.” He said, looking up and glancing around.
I glanced around too and gasped at the sight before us. He was right and hadn’t been exaggerating. Everyone’s attention was literally on us and I felt weird being the subject of unwanted gazes. I had been so lost in my thoughts that I hadn’t thought of what was going on in my surroundings.
“Don’t call me lord again, Liam.” I whispered as I turned to him. “We already have enough attention, let’s not get more of it.”
He nodded. “Yes, my-” I gave him an odd look, ready to spank him with my gaze if he repeated the same mistake I just corrected him on but he had an amused smirk on his face that made me realize that he knew what he was doing and was only messing with me-“brother.”
I chuckled at his tease. “You are not serious.”
He laughed. “I thought you were too stiff so I wanted you to lose the tension. You shouldn’t be like that, my lord. Learn to let go and live.”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” I snorted but I was amused that he had thought of teasing me. It seemed like we could survive in this human world after all.
His laughter had generated us more stares but I wasn’t going to complain about it. He rarely smiled nor laughed so it was good to hear him laugh.
We already had attention on us, having an increase of it wasn’t going to kill us.
A lady who seemed to be in her early thirties walked up to us and I found myself shrinking into myself unconsciously. Maybe the attention was going to kill us after all, because her attention seemed to be on us as she moved in our direction.
I knew I was right when she stopped right in front of us and smiled. “Can I help you, gentlemen?”
I frowned, wondering if that wasn’t supposed to be our lines. She had been the one who walked up to us when we didn’t ask her to. I couldn’t help but wonder if the English we speak in our pack was different from the one spoken in the human world.
“I don’t know. Aren’t you the one we should ask that question? You are the one who walked up to us.” Liam asked.
I smiled at his words, loving how he took them right from my mouth. I loved how he could read my mind at times.
The woman was not bothered with the question and the coldness emanating from us. She smiled. “You’ve been here for some minutes and I noticed-” she chuckled “-well, everyone noticed that you’ve been here for some time without putting anything in your basket. I figured you need help.”
“Thank you.” I breathed and gave her a low bow to show my gratitude.
“Never mind.” She waved her hand in the air and dismissed the words in a polite manner. “What do you want to buy?”
“Here.” I showed her the list we had come to the market with.
“Hmmm,” she breathed as she scanned her eyes over the list and nodded as she smiled at us. “This is interesting. You should have been out of here minutes ago but I get why you have been confused. The packaging had been changed and you wouldn’t have known that they are what you are looking for unless you know where they are.”
“No wonder.” I say with a nod.
“Let me show you where you can get everything.” She said, moving up the aisle.
“Thank you.” Liam and I said at the same time.
“Don’t mention.” She smiled. “You are distracting everyone and I’m happy to help so everyone can move on with their lives. It’s not everytime two handsome men come to this place and stay too long with confusion written all over them. Most of them dash in and out with the speed of flash so you being here is a treat but we have already had our fill of feasting our eyes. It would be unfair to keep staring at you when you clearly need help.”
She was chatty but friendly. It was a relief to have someone to help us around here but it was also a shame that we wouldn’t be seeing her again.
