Ella’s POV
I frowned at her words. Was that why she had gasped? It was expected that the boys were going to get mated one day, why did have to be surprised about that.
“Is that why you gasped?”
“Their mate is about to die. She will die soon if you don’t act fast.”
Wait! I tried to understand her. She? Why was she talking as if it was one person? Did she see the mate of only one of them? I wondered whose mate that was. Or did she mean that the mates of all of them were about to die soon? I remembered that she had said mate earlier instead of mates and was more confused.
“Whose mate did you see?”
“The mate of the three of them. She is going to die soon.”
I gasped at her repetition as I understood what she said. I couldn’t believe that I had heard her right. “Do you mean one mate?”
She nodded. “Yes. The three of them have the same mate.” She clarified.
“How come?” I asked, mostly to myself.
She shrugged. “I don’t make the fates. I only see them or alter them to suit my purpose.”
I couldn’t bear to think of my boys getting mated to one girl and decided to steer the conversation towards what I could deal with.
“You’ve satisfied your curiosity. How about returning my mate’s ten years?”
She smiled, realizing what I was trying to do. “Aren’t you curious about your children’s mate?”
I groaned, wondering why she had to go there. “I came here for my mate not theirs.”
She smiled. “Valid point but your fate and theirs rest on their mate you don’t want to talk about. You have to do something for me in regards to the girl and I will restore your mate’s ten years.’
I sighed. She had me bound at a spot. She wasn’t going to do anything unless I did what she wanted. I guessed this was the deal she was going to make with me. I hoped that it wasn’t going to be a hard pill for me to swallow. I wasn’t going to kidnap the girl for her if that was what she wanted.
“What do you want?”
“The girl is going to die on her sixth birthday which is in the next three months so you have to find her and stop her death.”
“How can I stop what is going to happen? I don’t control death.”
“She is going to be killed by a gun shot. You have to make sure that doesn’t happen. Once she lives through your sixth birthday, your husband will automatically get his ten years back.”
“How will you know she has lived through her sixth birthday?”
She smiled and pointed at the viewing globe behind her. “With this, I can see any part of the world. I will check and I will know.”
I nodded. I should have expected that.
“Where is this mate of theirs?” I asked. I couldn’t believe that I was contemplating this. I didn’t feel comfortable with knowing that my boys were going to have one mate but what else could I do at this point? Even if she was lying and trying to tease me, I was going to play along with her to get what I wanted. “Is she in the blue river pack or in our pack?”
I wondered what Kevin would think of if he finds out what I was doing at the moment. He would have found the letter by now, I was sure of that.
I sighed, missing him already. My heart felt heavy at the news Elizabeth had sprung on me and I knew Kevin would have found a way to comfort me if he was here.
She shook her head. “She is in the human world.”
What? My eyes felt like they were going to drop out of their sockets. “Their mate is a human? That’s shocking.”
She nodded. “I told you your boys are special and so is their mate. She has a great destiny and that is why I can’t allow her to die so soon. She will be greater than you are when she grows up.”
“Fine. I accept all these. What do you gain from saving the girl though? I refuse to believe it’s because you find my boys interesting. You refused to collect money but would return Kevin’s years if the girl is saved.”
She grinned, a mysterious glint in her eyes. “Saving the girl would frustrate the efforts of those trying to kill her and that is my reward. Knowing that their goals wouldn’t be achieved is more than gold to me.”
“Do you know those trying to kill her? Are they your enemies?” I asked her.
She maintained an impassive expression and I couldn’t tell what she was thinking of at the moment. “You don’t have to know anything else except how to save the girl and make sure her destiny isn’t destroyed.”
“Okay.” I nodded, accepting that she wasn’t going to tell me anything more. I could always find out about what she knew during the adventure. I hoped the boys were ready for more adventure.
She stood up, went inside and came back with a map. “Here.” She said, handing the map to me. “You will need this to get to the human world. You will have to find out the girl on your own though but I will draw a sketch of how she looks so you will recognize her. You can use the gold you have on you to navigate your way through the human world. I’m sure it would be enough for your living and travel expenses.”
“I guess I’m off then.” I said and stood up from where I was seated.
“You couldn’t have made a better choice.” She said.
I ignored her smile as I walked out with the boys out of her house.
