Kevin’s POV
I sighed, feeling sorry that I had called him a dramatic fellow. I should have known he wouldn’t have been worried if there hadn’t been a genuine reason. At times, he was more worried about the pack than any other wolf. He was more worried about me than I felt about myself. I should have known that everything boiled down to my safety and my happiness.
“I’m sorry I didn’t think that far and made it difficult for you.” I apologized.
“No problem, your highness.” He said and shook his head.
“What do you expect us to do? We can’t turn our backs on those who need our help. It is a long journey before they find another pack and they wouldn’t make it since they said their supply has finished.”
“I thought of that too and that was why I decided to come to you before making any decision.”
“What if I tell the Luna to not go anywhere near the witches? Will that solve the problem? She wouldn’t find out about the trade I did with my life to find her. We can also keep Maya away from them.”
He sighed. “That can work. We can also not allow the witches stay for too long. The sooner they leave, the better for everyone. What do you think of that, my lord?”
“An excellent plan.” I praised him.
He grinned. “What do you tell the Luna if she asks why she isn’t allowed to go to the witches? I know how to handle my sister. I can always tell her that it was the alpha’s orders and I wouldn’t hesitate to hack her if she disobeys.”
I winced. “Thank you for being overprotective of me but you shouldn’t be mean to your sister.”
He sighed. “She wouldn’t listen if I used another method.”
I sighed. He was right. Maya wouldn’t listen to a calmer approach. I had tried to tell her that I wasn’t in love with her and Ella was the only one I loved but she wouldn’t listen. I never should have slept with her, I wouldn’t have given her the opportunity to believe we could be something more and gotten myself in the mess I had been in all those years and might probably deal with, based on Liam’s fear.
“I can find an excuse so Ella wouldn’t have to deal with the witches. She is busy with the kids, the clinic and being the Luna of the pack. I doubt she will have the time to visit witches. Moreover, I don’t think she is someone who is interested in spells, incantations and divinations. If it’s not herbs, cure and healing, I’m not sure she would be interested.”
“What if you are wrong about her?” Liam insisted. “I think you should have an excuse handy, my lord.”
“I will.” I said even though I didn’t have anything to say to Ella to keep her away from the witches. I could only hope that I say something meaningful that wouldn’t sound ridiculous to her.
“What do you want to say to her, if I may ask, my lord?”
I sighed. It wasn’t likely that he was going to give up until he was convinced that I wouldn’t mess my relationship with Ella.
“What do you suggest I say to her?” I asked him, redirecting the question to him. My brain wasn’t processing anything at the moment.
He snorted. “Apologies, my lord but she is your mate. You should know what you can say to her that she would believe.”
I sighed. “You are a man. You should know what to say to a female that she would believe.”
“I’m a single unmated male wolf, your highness. I don’t think I can be of much help to you in that regard. You are the mated wolf. You should be able to solve your problem.”
I chuckled. “I guess it has become like that.”
He nodded. “That is how it is, my lord.”
“Aren’t you planning to get mated, my friend?”
He arched his eyebrows at me and chuckled, seeing through me and knowing exactly what I was trying to do. “This isn’t about me, your highness. This is about you knowing how to keep your wife away from the secret that might cause an argument and get her mad at you.”
I sighed. He was right. Even though I had done it to find Ella, she wouldn’t think I had done it for her sake. She would think I had been reckless with my life. She would be mad at me. Nothing I could ever do or say would make her justify that I had gambled with my life. She would be insanely mad at me and it would be in my best interest to make sure she never found out about this.
“Why are you so smart today?” I asked him.
He chuckled. “I’m always smart, your highness. You are only paying attention to my wisdom today.”
I chuckled. “Asshole.”
“You shouldn’t have done it.” He sighed.
I frowned. “You shouldn’t bring up the past, my friend. I wouldn’t have found her.”
“You would have found her if you were patient.”
I sighed. He did warn me but there was no use dwelling on that now. “We shouldn’t focus on what had been done but on how we can move forward from what had been done.”
“What do you want to do?”
“Can we brainstorm together on what to do?”
His grin was full blown. “I knew you didn’t know what you wanted to say to Ella and that was why I insisted that you tell me now so I can help you out with it.”
“Asshole.” I laughed. “Didn’t you say you were a single man?”
“That I am but I’m a single man with ideas.”
“Asshole.” I laughed again.
