Kevin’s POV
I had been in a good mood as I stepped out of the shower, dressed quickly and walked out of the bedroom I had given by the alpha of the blue river pack, heading towards Ella’s bedroom.
I hoped she was done with the friends she was talking with and was back in the palace. I couldn’t wait to see her and it was obvious that I was over the moon. I had even smiled at the guards who had walked past me and bowed to me in greeting. They had been shocked that I had responded to their greeting as they hadn’t been expecting me to but I wondered why I wouldn’t and keep a grudge.
They had only been doing their duty and none of my men were hurt in the end so I didn’t have a reason to be mad. If I wanted to be mad at anyone, it would be the alpha who had given the order and I couldn’t be mad at the alpha as I was one myself and knew the decisions one had to make to protect the pack.
All I needed at the moment was Ella and that was where I was headed.
I had been told she was back in the palace and had increased my pace. I got to her door and pressed down hard on the door knob instead of knocking, wanting to surprise her with my presence and hoped she didn’t lock her door.
The surprise would be ruined if I had to call her to open the door. I smiled when the door knob budged and felt lucky as I stepped inside, only to have my vision get cloudy with rage at the sight I saw.
Luke was there in her bedroom, holding her possessively to herself while she was covered only in a towel. I didn’t have to do much guess work to know what had happened here. I was mad at the sight of him and then he said something stupid.
I was filled with the desire to murder him right there and found myself responding to his words before I could catch myself, alerting the both of them to my presence.
“It’s about to be your worst memory.” I growled.
I saw him stiffen but he didn’t turn back to look at me. I couldn’t believe how stupidly courageous he was. He had to be the most uncultured brat I had ever met to have the audacity to touch another man’s mate. I didn’t know who was more despicable between him and Kenneth. He didn’t deserve to be a wolf but a rogue and should have been killed with those who died that day.
“Let her go.” I hissed.
“What if I don’t want to let her go?” He asked as he turned, smirking at me.
The arrogant bastard. I hissed as I flew on my feet and jumped at him. I watched as he let go of Ella pushing her to the side as he adjusted his stance to fight me.
I got more mad as I heard Ella gasp and watched her get up from the floor. How dare he lay his hand on my mate and try to hurt her? He had had the nerve to push her? He was going to die for that.
I heard Ella screaming for me to stop but my brain couldn’t process anything through my rage. All I could think of was that he had touched my mate.
The guards patrolling the passage way outside must have heard the scuffle going on in Ella’s bedroom and wondered what was going on.
“What happened, my lady?” Two guards asked as they dashed into the room.
I was relieved Ella had dressed while Luke and I were fighting as I couldn’t stand other men seeing her semi naked. The guards’ eyes widened at the sight of me and Luke fighting and I had no doubt that they were wondering how he had gotten himself here.
I didn’t have the time to answer their question as I landed a blow on Luke’s face. I smiled when he groaned and watched as his face reddened. His groan spurred the guards into motion and they moved towards us to separate. I would be damned if I let this fight to end until I had beaten Luke to my satisfaction.
Ella had given up shouting my name and stood silently at a corner, watching the fight. She was a good girl for doing that. She should stay put while I avenge the disrespect that was done to her.
I saw Luke raising his hand and anticipated his blow. I avoided it and chuckled as he hissed, his anger written all over his face.
“Is that all you’ve got? Weak blows and you dared to desire my woman?” I taunted him.
I swerved to the side to avoid his fist and landed a hard punch on his cheek. The sound of his jaw cracking was a gratifying sound I would never forget. He was so predictable that I was enjoying this fight.
The two guards had a hard time pulling us off each other and finally moved back, leaving us alone. I couldn’t blame them. It didn’t matter how strong and trained they were, they couldn’t be as strong as two trained alphas fueled with rage.
Four minutes later, I felt another presence in the room before I heard the growl.
“What the hell is going on here?” The new presence growled.
Oscar Nelson. I breathed, realizing who it was. Luke also realized his father was in the room and went still, letting go of me. I also dropped the hand I had raised in the air, seething with annoyance. I could have landed him another punch if his father hadn’t walked into the room.
I still wanted to hit him but forced myself to calm down, not wanting to be rude to Oscar Nelson and insult his presence. I glanced at Ella and smiled at her to show her I was okay. She smiled back though her eyes were still filled with worry. She wouldn’t believe I was fine until she checked all over my body tonight and I didn’t mind that. I actually looked forward to her doing that.
I was still hyper from the fight and didn’t think I could find my voice. It was Ella who replied the question Oscar Nelson asked.
“I was in my room having a shower and your son came into my bedroom uninvited. My mate walked in and saw him trying to harass me and the fight happened.”
I smiled, loving how she had addressed me as her mate instead of as Kevin. Those words had more implications and would influence Oscar Nelson’s judgement more than if I had been called by my name.
Oscar Nelson nodded at her words and then glanced at Luke. “Why are you in her room?”
“I came to see her.”
“Did you knock?”
“I did but there was no response.”
“Why did you enter when you weren’t asked to get in?”
“I wanted to see her.”
“Why couldn’t you wait to see her when she wants to see her?”
“She wouldn’t want to see him.”
All of his responses were annoying me and I blew out a breath, trying not to get myself worked up again.
“Was what you wanted to tell her important that you had to invade her privacy?”
“Yes. I came to tell her to be my woman.”
“She is someone else’s mate, Luke.” Oscar Nelson said, sounding exasperated with his son.
“They haven’t had the official bonding ceremony.” Luke said and stared at me as if he was taunting me.
I hissed, flexed my fists but stayed where I was.
Oscar Nelson growled and he rubbed at his temple. He seemed tired as if he would swoon anytime with fatigue. I stared at him, considering if I should give him a chair. He stood straight, looking determined and I was glad I didn’t have to worry about him.
“Are we having this conversation again?” Oscar Nelson hissed, leveling his son with a glare. “She belongs to another. Can’t you get that through your thick skull and get over your greed?”
“It’s not greed, father.”
“I’m done listening to this conversation.” Oscar Nelson hissed. “Apologize to the alpha of the blood moon pack.”
My heart swelled and I pumped up my chest at the mention of my title from the lips of Oscar Nelson.
“Father!” Luke protested.
“You will do that this instant, son, or I will have you stripped of your position and punish you in a way you will never imagine. I swear you won’t ever want to be with a female wolf by the time I’m done with you.” Oscar Nelson growled, threatening him.
Luke paled, afraid of losing his title. I guessed he wanted to be the alpha more than he wanted to be Ella’s mate. Coward. He didn’t deserve her. Not that I was going to let go of her.
“I’m sorry.” He grumbled an apology to me.
“You will apologize to his mate.” Oscar Nelson said.
“I’m sorry for harassing you.” He said to Ella.
“Take him away and lock him in his room.” Oscar Nelson turned to the guards.
I watched as the guards walked Luke away and breathed, relieved it was over.
“I apologize on my son’s behalf. I promise this won’t happen again till you leave.”
“Thank you.” I bowed to him.
A messenger ran into the room and gasped as he saw Oscar Nelson. “I’ve been looking for you, my lord. The physicians are looking for you. A plague has broken out in the land.”
“Let’s go.” Oscar Nelson groaned and ran out after the messenger.
I glanced at Ella and groaned at the expression on her face. We weren’t leaving here anytime soon.
