Kevin’s POV
“Put it on that side.” I yelled commands at the men, digging up the grounds with them as well.
“Yes.” They echoed and continued with what they were doing.
We had been busy since morning laying traps in the ground. I had learned something while I stayed in the utopia town trying to find a way to rescue Ella and admitted to myself that we needed an edge to beat the rogues, considering how small our number was as compared to the troops that I knew the bastard Kenneth would come with.
He was too predictable that I would have said this upcoming war wasn’t fun if the lives of those who I cared about weren’t involved in it. He thought he was a dangerous wolf but he was not in reality. He was a bully who took delight in attacking the helpless and a coward who wouldn’t fight a battle he didn’t know if he would win.
I had learned of explosives while I was in the utopia town and knew that was our only hope of beating the black wolves with our numbers.
“Have you filled this side?” I asked Liam.
He nodded. “Yes. Only that side remains to be filled.”
I nodded. The rogues wouldn’t know what hit them. I could bet that majority of them would get blown off and die, leaving the rest ruffled and in an emotional wreck to fight.
I had fashioned my own type of explosives and had it placed in the ground. The explosives would go off when someone stepped on it and whoever did that would get dismembered. It was so much that we buried in the ground that the rogues wouldn’t be able to escape it. Even if they tried to, they would still step on it while trying to run away and die.
I had a subtle mark on each spot that the explosive was on so my men could know not to step on it. The marks were so subtle that no one except those who knew what to watch out for would know that anything was there.
I could already see Kenneth losing his men to death by dismemberment and was already picturing his moods when he realized that the large number he placed his faith on to kill us all and overcome the war had already dwindled even before the war started.
I wished I could see the look on his face right now but reminded myself to be patient for them to be here. The war was almost here anyway and I would get to see whatever it was that I needed to see and hear what I needed to hear.
Kenneth’s facial expression when he sees that he has lost the battle before he even began. Kenneth’s facial expression when he sees his men dying all around him. Kenneth’s roar of anger when he sees that the men he had come with had dwindled by more than half. Kenneth’s eyes flashed with rage, hatred and resignation as I drove my claws into his heart and ripped his black heart out.
I couldn’t wait for them to be here. I couldn’t wait for the battle to start and be over with. I couldn’t wait to do all that. I couldn’t wait to rip his heart out.
I had no doubt that was going to be the most refreshing day of my life.
“What are you thinking of?” Ella asked, glancing at me as she placed an explosive in the ground and covered it up.
I smiled at her. She was the only one who suspected that I was lost in thoughts even though my hands were still busy working. Well, she was the only one I wanted to know that much.
“Just thinking of the rogue wolves.” I replied her.
She snorted. “Those? They aren’t worth thinking of.”
I smiled again. She was right. They weren’t worth thinking of. They weren’t even worth getting rid of and staining our hands with blood but we had to do it to survive.
They were a hassle we needed to get rid of and I would be glad when I finally get done with them.
Maya’s POV
“When will the alpha be back?” Khloe asked me.
I rolled my eyes, wondering why everyone was asking me that. I was as much in the dark as they were and didn’t know anything about his arrival, his safety or his whereabouts and wished everyone would stop asking me of it. I was tormented already by the thoughts of him that I didn’t need their questions to remind me of the guy I was trying to shut out of my mind.
That bastard. I had thought that we had something going on between us but he had gotten cold and treated me as if he didn’t want to see me, as if he regretted the nights of passion that I had had.
All I could think about for days was my moments with Kevin but it seemed like he had pushed it out of his mind the moment I was out of his bed.
I shouldn’t have flaunted my relationship with him if I had known that it was going to bring me embarrassment and headaches the way it was at this moment.
I wanted to yell at everyone to stop asking me about Kevin and sighed as I remembered that I was the one who had caused it. I really shouldn’t have flaunted my relationship with Kevin.
“I don’t know.” I sighed.
“Didn’t you get letters from your brother?” Khloe asked.
I rolled my eyes. Liam was more of a stranger than a brother to me. “He wouldn’t tell me anything.”
Khloe sighed. “Your brother is too tight lipped.”
“Tell me something I don’t know.” I sighed as I dipped my legs into the river, feeling the cool of the water seep into my body.
Ah! This was refreshing. I should have done this sooner. I should have done this instead of moping around the town and letting others focus their attention on me.
“He will be back soon.” Khloe assured me.
“As if he would mate her when he comes. What kind of a wolf forgets to write to his mate if he still wants her?”
I groaned as I heard the voice behind me and rolled my eyes. How could I have known that I would meet the nemesis lady wolves here of all places when I was trying to avoid them in town?
“Ignore them.” Khloe hissed out a warning to me, sensing that I was gearing for a fight.
I ignored her. I was in a crappy mood ever since I heard that some men in Kevin’s army had sneaked into the town, met with Kevin’s father and left without delivering any message to me. It was annoying that my brother and the wolf I thought was going to be my mate had been gone for months and both of them didn’t think of sending any message to me.
“Maya, do you hear me?” Khloe repeated, seeing the glare in my eyes and seeing that I was ready to fight.
She had guessed right. I was spoiling for a fight. This wasn’t an open space and we weren’t waiting for any kids to come for their trainings. I could teach the girls the lessons they had been yearning to receive.
I jumped up from where I sat, missing the feel of the cold water on my skin as I removed my feet from the river.
“What did you say?” I said to Sasha who had spoken, moving closer to her with a harsh glare in my eyes.
She swallowed nervously and still held my gaze. I could tell that she was intimidated and trying her best to not show it. I wasn’t impressed by her show of courage because I was going to beat her and make her bleed with all of her courage.
“What did you say?” I repeated, moving closer to her.
She scoffed, trying to call my bluff and show me that she wasn’t scared. “Did I lie? Don’t you see that you are fooling yourself? Since when has your supposed mate left and hasn’t bothered to check up on you? Can’t you see that you are only deluding yourself? You can’t ever be the Luna.”
“Will you shut up?” I growled through gritted teeth. “Don’t you get tired of repeating yourself? You have told me already your views about my mate. Do you have to repeat yourself or is it because I didn’t punch your teeth out the other day?”
She laughed, turning to her friends who were behind her and smirking at me. That was their pattern; one of them would taunt me with her words while the others would smirk to make me feel like annoyed more than I already was.
Her voice lowered to a whisper and it took on a childish tone, still sounding taunting though. “Oh, dear Maya. I can’t stop repeating myself when you haven’t stopped deluding myself.”
I was filled with rage, my vision getting clouded with it. “I’m your dear.” I hissed as I lurched forward and punched her on the face.
She growled and charged at me, her friends also joining her. Khloe pulled one of her friends apart from me and started beating her up, leaving me with two girls to deal with.
I hoped no one walked up to us so I could beat the girls to my satisfaction. I wanted to beat them up till they couldn’t lift their mouths to insult anyone for days.
By the time I was done with them, the pack would be grateful to me for ruffling them up and teaching them the manners their families forgot to instill in their lousy brains.
