Kevin’s POV
“My lord,” Damien and Loki greeted with bows as they passed by where I was, figuring out how to calm my nerves down after watching the most frightening fight of my life.
Gosh, I really needed to stop being dramatic.
I turned to them, the residual anger I had felt from watching them fight bursting out into the open.
“You are greeting me now when you almost turned me into a widower?” I questioned them.
They looked confused for a moment, wondering what I meant by being a widower when I wasn’t married. I doubted they knew what I meant with the way they looked at me. The confusion didn’t last long though as they smiled at me, their expression clearing up as they understood what I meant.
“My lord,” Damien began. “We couldn’t have done that to you.”
Loki chuckled and nodded. “He is right. How could we have done that to your mate?”
I pouted. “It seemed like that to me. It seemed like you were going to kill her with the way you kept slashing at her face and throwing blows at her.”
“We were in character. We had to fight like the rogues so she could learn to defend herself against the actual rogues.” Loki said in their defense, sounding like he hated that he had to do that.
I sighed, suspecting that I was acting weird to them and probably disappointing them. They had probably assumed all through the fight that I would understand and didn’t understand why I was drilling them now like an angry sergeant.
They had done that for my sake and didn’t deserve the shit I was putting them through. I needed to put my emotions in check.
“I’m sorry.” I apologized to them. “I don’t understand what is wrong with me.”
Damien chuckled. “We know if you don’t know, my lord. What is wrong with you is called overprotectiveness.”
I sighed. He didn’t have to sound like Ella right now.
“You look pretty when you pout, my lord.” Loki teased, his chuckle loud. “Do you know that?”
I growled at his teases and they laughed. I was relieved that they weren’t mad at me. I needed to get my overprotectiveness checked.
“You should have gone easy on her though.” I muttered under my breath.
“You know we couldn’t.”
I sighed. They had heard me.
“I told them not to go easy on her.” Zeke said as he walked up to where we were and joined us.
I sighed. Of course, he would have told them not to go easy on her. After all, he was her trainer.
Damien and Loki bowed to the two of us and excused us.
“You should train on getting a stronger heart if you don’t want to drop dead during Ella’s trainings.” He said.
I frowned. He wasn’t laughing so I didn’t know if he was teasing me or giving me an advice.
He laughed at the expression on my face. “You shouldn’t come to her next training, son.” He said and walked away.
I wanted to call to him to explain what he meant by that but he was gone too quickly. I saw Ella approaching and ran to meet her.
“I was waiting for you.”
She smiled and then frowned when she saw the expression on my face. “Are you fine? You look pale.”
“When is your next training?”
“That should be in the next two days.”
“Do you know anything about it?” I asked, fishing for information.
She chuckled. “What is with the questions? I thought you would kiss me again.”
“Ella,” I sighed.
She chuckled. “I don’t think I want to tell you with how wound up tight you are.”
“Try me.” I urged her.
“I don’t know who I would be fighting against but dad said it would be three men.”
“Three?” I squeaked, sounding like a rat.
Three? I finally understood why he had told me to stay out of the training ground. At this rate, I might drop dead if I didn’t stop worrying too much.
I was too in love with her that I couldn’t think of anything happening to her.
She chuckled, finding the way I had squeaked funny. “I love you too.”
I smiled, wondering how she had heard me saying it in my head that I loved her.
I kissed her, praying that the war was over quickly so I could keep on losing myself in her warmth without having to worry of losing her.
She must have sensed the underlying turmoil in my heart as she wrapped her hands around my waist and looked into my eyes. “I will be fine, Kevin.”
I nodded, wishing I could believe her but the fear in my head wouldn’t let me do that.
“Let’s go meet the others.” I said, holding her by the hand.
“I need a shower.” She said.
“Let me do that for you.”
“I was hoping that you would say that.” She grinned.
I smiled as we both walked hand in hand to the house, knowing by now the rest of the men would have heard from Damien, Loki and Zeke how much of a crybaby and drama queen I was.
