Ella’s POV
“What if the Rogues see the fire we have and attack us again?” I asked two hours into the party while pulling out a stick of roasted meat from the fire.
“Oh!” The men all groaned. “Why are you being a party spoiler?”
I smiled as I heard them all groan. It was fun to rile them up.
“The rogues are going to find us anyways so we might as well live and enjoy our lives.” Kevin said.
I nodded as I looked at him. He was right. It wasn’t going to make a difference if we had a party or not, the rogues seemed determined to find us and they were going to even if we hid ourselves in a cave and tried to pretend like we didn’t exist.
I didn’t even think that it was possible that we pretended to not exist. The rogues were the ones who shouldn’t exist.
“It seems like the rogues are determined to kill you.” Dad said.
I sighed. I had opened this line of conversation and officially ruined the party. I hoped the guys could forgive me for that. It wasn’t like dad had been talking for the past two hours since the party started.
He had been quiet and seemed to be mulling over a thought in his head and didn’t know how he could talk about it to others. This would be the first time he would open his mouth in the last forty minutes.
Way to go, Ella.
I taunted myself not needing the men who had been enjoying the party to shoot stares my way to know that I had messed the party up for them with my comment.
I had only trying to be the voice of caution and warn them to not get carried away but it seemed like I had overdone it.
I snorted, wondering who I was kidding. These men were soldiers and had been training before they even learned to use their paws well when they started growing. I was the last one they needed to warn them to be careful.
I shouldn’t have said anything but I wanted to leave here so I could be alone with Kevin.
It was Kevin who cleared his throat and replied dad. “They are the vengeful type.”
“That means they wouldn’t stop until they are done getting rid of you.” Dad mused silently.
Liam hissed. “We wouldn’t stop until we get rid of them either.”
I watched as Kevin and Liam share a look between each other and then smiled. The other men nodded at what Liam said, their chest heaving and ticking with excitement as if they could picture the final battle where they got rid of all the rogues already.
Men. I sighed, rolling my eyes. They were brimming with testosterone that it was hard to not notice.
I grinned. If they were men, I guessed I was like them as well as I was excited about fighting with the rogues as well and showing myself that all I had endured in the training hadn’t been a waste. My veins pumped with fire at the thought of the war and I licked my lips unconsciously.
“We have to get rid of them. It’s until then that you are all going to be safe.” Dad said but his eyes were on me.
I gulped, finding it hard to swallow the meat in my mouth even though I had chewed it into a state of ultimate softness. I was worried dad had been finding it hard to sleep after what happened to me the other day. It was no wonder he had insisted that I start my training the next day I woke up so he could at least put part of his worries to rest even if his mind and eyes couldn’t rest.
I hoped he was sleeping well. I made a mental note to ask him if he was as he looked so worried at this time that I was concerned.
Dad spoke up again. “I have an idea if you all don’t think it’s useless.”
Kevin chuckled. “Who would ever say that your idea is useless? No one can say that.” He said, looking around at all of his men in the eyes one by one as though he was daring them to say the idea of the father of his mate was useless.
Dad wasn’t flattered by his words even though he knew what he meant. He didn’t look moved.
“Listen to what I’ve got to say before you conclude. You might be the one to say that it is useless.” Dad replied instead of smiling at Kevin’s words and telling him he felt humbled by his honor of him like I expected him to say, like we all expected him to say.
“Now I’m curious to know what the idea is.” Kevin said, his voice somber.
I admitted that I was curious as well and my heart kicked with fright. I wanted to know the idea my dad had that he believed we could all insult him for.
“Tell us what you think.” Kevin urged him when he still hadn’t said anything.
“Why don’t we all go to the blue river pack instead of you going home? I have a house there at the outskirts where no one from the pack would know that you are there and you can all stay with me.” Dad heaved a sigh when he was done as if he had just made the biggest confession of his life. I doubted that as I believed that confessing his love to mum must have been harder.
It took a lot of courage to ask out of the strongest female beta warriors in a rival pack but he did. I knew he was bold but for him to react this way after saying what he did, he must have thought of it several times in his mind. He must have been worried and must have feared what the others would say in response to it.
For a revered elder in the blue river pack as he was, his pride was one of his biggest qualities and putting it aside to be probably rejected wasn’t easy and I respected and loved him more for that.
I turned to look at Kevin to check what his reaction was. I thought of what dad said and what he was thinking and I could tell that it wasn’t a useless idea at all.
I stared at Kevin, waiting for him to talk and hoped that he felt the way I did and understood my dad.
