Ella’s POV
Dang. I was drained and felt like my soul was moving out of me. I collapsed on the ground with a hard thud after my training. I hadn’t bene able to break out of dad’s hold and he had been the one to take pity on me and let me go eventually.
I felt horrible about being spared this time again than at the aches plaguing my body all over. He had let me go telling me to prepare for the training the next day.
I let out a sigh as I turned on my side on the mat and groaned at the pain that went through all my body. At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if I died within the next few weeks. Dad didn’t have to worry about someone else killing me and cutting my life span short. With the way he was drilling me hard, he was more than enough to kill me.
Kevin walked up to me and sat down beside me. “You did well today.”
I snorted. “You don’t have to lie to me. I didn’t. I’m not better off than yesterday.”
“Do you need a massage?” He asked rather than argue that I had actually done well.
I didn’t mind that he changed the conversation. I didn’t want him to lie to me anyways. I was too tired to entertain flattery.
“Yes, please.” I said, moaning in pleasure as his fingers worked on my skin, kneading all the knots in my muscles. I closed my eyes and gave myself wholly to the magic his fingers was wreaking on my exhausted bones and senses.
I was enjoying myself so much that I didn’t want this to end and almost growled out loud in annoyance when I heard footsteps approaching us.
I frowned at Cephas, wondering why he had such bad timing. He could have just waited until I was done getting my massage to deliver the message he wanted to pass across to his alpha.
He seemed to be in a rush as he ran towards us and I wondered what the problem was.
“What is the problem?” Kevin asked immediately Cephas got in front of us.
“We have intruders.” Cephas said. “Those standing watch for tonight saw a group of people and believe that they are rogues passing through this path and on a raid. I came to inform everyone before they get close.”
I groaned. It was just like the rogues to have the worst timing to be the nuisance they were. I didn’t expect any less from them.
I jumped to my feet and winced as my legs shook in pain, hoping that I had enough strength left in me to protect the pack. Heck, I didn’t think I had enough strength in me to protect myself but I wouldn’t cower and hide instead of fighting.
I wasn’t about to let all that rigorous training be in vain.
Kevin’s POV
“Get behind me, Ella.” I said as we moved forward to meet the rogues so they wouldn’t get closer.
She glanced at me, gave me a tiny smile and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
I scowled at her. “You are not fine, you stubborn girl.”
“I can fight, you overprotective boy. Isn’t this why you let my dad train me so hard. What is the point if I can’t fight to defend myself and need you to protect me?”
I winced at the reminder of why she didn’t speak with me for days but as I looked at her, I realized she wasn’t taunting me with it but stating a fact.
I knew she was right-there wasn’t any training without a test-but that didn’t mean I didn’t feel the urge to carry her away from this fight and hide her somewhere else. She wasn’t ever going to forgive me if I did that.
“I’m never going to forgive you if you do that.” She said as if she was reading my mind.
I scoffed. “As if I didn’t see your legs shake the other time.”
“I will be fine, Kevin.” She sighed. “Please don’t make me repeat the words again.”
“Cephas and Andre, flank the Luna.” I ordered them.
“Yes.” They said and moved beside her, putting her in the middle.
She rolled her eyes at me but I wasn’t ordering them away. That was the best compromise I could make in this situation.
“What do we have here?” The rogue leader beamed as they got closer to where we were.
I was slightly annoyed as I scanned through all of them and noticed that their leader wasn’t there. It would have been nice to fight with him again.
The rogues weren’t as much as the ones we had fought with in the utopia town but their leader was as chatty as that one had been. I wondered if that was a thing with them.
The leader smiled at us and then turned to his men. “I should have given that witch more coins if I had known that her prophecy would turn out to be right. She said that I was going to find something strange soon and it would gladden my heart. How could I have known that I would find werewolves of the blue river pack and blood moon pack together? I can’t believe how lucky today is.”
I smirked at him, my eyes taunting him. “I actually think it’s an unfortunate day for you. Did the witch also tell you that your heart will stop dead soon? The last of your kind I fought with not quite long met his death though he was arrogant and chatty as you are.”
His eyes narrowed at anger at me, just the way I wanted it. “I’m different.”
“Show me.” I goaded him.
We all roared as we charged at one another.
