Ella’s POV
“We go this way.” I say to them, after we had walked for about an hour.
“Finally,” Loki breathed and I could hear the relief in his voice.
I was also relieved but it was for a different reason. The wolves of the blood moon pack might have no idea that there is a road like this that werewolves of the other clan could use to infiltrate their land but I doubted that it was the same for the wolves of the blue river pack.
My heart was heavy since the beginning of this journey and it wasn’t until I noticed that we were getting closer to home that I felt a bit of relief. What was I doing? I wasn’t doing anything bad except going home but I hoped that no one from the blue river pack sees me or us.
I didn’t want to explain why Anna, the granddaughter of the mad granny of the blue river pack was traveling on a route that didn’t lead to the pack’s home and was with unidentified men that were not of the pack.
It wasn’t everyone in the pack that knew of my travel and where I had to go. It would be awkward to explain to any random member of the blue river pack who didn’t know me well enough what I was doing.
I really hoped that no one passes through here till we get home. I checked the clouds, noting how far gone into the sky we were. By my estimation, we should be home within the next three days, provided that there was no hitch. I really hoped that there wasn’t any hitch.
I was tired of the unnecessary delays already.
“Is this road frequently used?” Andre asked.
My heart jumped from my chest into my throat and I looked at him in fright. I wondered how it was that he had been thinking exactly what I was worried about.
“No. Not many people from the blue river pack know of this place.” I shook my head.
“But some of them still know of the place.” Damien noted.
I nodded. He was right. Some of them still knew of the path which was why I was praying that they didn’t come this way for the mean time till we were away.
“What is the problem, Andre?” Sebastian asked.
“We don’t want any trouble with wolves of the blue river pack.” Andre explained. “Not after everything we’ve been through. I asked because I am tired and don’t want to deal with any battle but if I have to, I wantto be prepared.”
I nodded, understanding his fears. I was worried of the same thing. “We will be fine. No one will pass through here.” I lied through my teeth, giving them hope that I wasn’t entitled to give.
“I hope so too but I want to be prepared as well.” Kevin said.
“We should.” Liam agreed. “Especially with the way we stormed out of the land of the blue river pack the last time we were there.”
I blushed when I remembered that it had been my fault. That wasn’t a memory I found pleasure in.
Damien gasped and turned to Liam. “Did you cause trouble already with the blue river pack?”
“Oh! This is bad.” Andre groaned. “No one must meet us here. They mustn’t see us close to their land or we wouldn’t be able to avoid a fight.”
I couldn’t believe that Kevin didn’t tell his men about what had happened to him in the land of the blue river pack. I had thought that he told his soldiers everything judging by how close they were.
I guessed it must have been an embarrassing moment for him so he couldn’t share it with anyone else except Liam who had been a witness. I didn’t blame him. It wasn’t a cool event to have to beat up the man who disrespected your mate and still have her turn her back on you in public.
Damn. I was really mean to him that day.
“What happened with the blue river pack?” Damien asked, staring at Liam. “We should know what happened and why we might have to fight them if we run into them.”
I grimaced. He was too curious for his own good. Didn’t he know when to give up and when not to?
I glanced at Liam, trying to tell him with my eyes not to say anything to them but he wasn’t looking at him. His attention was focused on Kevin. I shifted my attention to Kevin, wondering what he would do as Liam seemed to be asking permission from him subtly before he says anything. After all, it was Kevin’s story.
Kevin glanced at him, smiled and then looked away. I gasped, wondering what he was going to do. I was tensed and filled with dread, hoping that he wasn’t about to do what I believed he wanted to do.
Did he want to do his payback now by telling the men of how I chose the son of the alpha of the blue river pack above him because I was trying to hide my identity?
I hoped he didn’t do that. The men were never going to forgive me for embarrassing their alpha and would be petty with me for days. I knew he knew that and that was why he was smiling at me and taking his time to make a choice.
Liam and I were still looking at him and the others were still waiting for Liam to spill what happened with the blue river pack.
Kevin was definitely enjoying this moment, loving the look on my face. I had to have anguish written all over my face if my facial expression was what was going on in my mind. He winked at me and I rolled my eyes, making sure that he saw me. He was enjoying this too much and I hate it.
“Guys, it seems like we are no longer alone.” Loki said, pointing at the two figures walking in our direction.
I sighed. My prayers weren’t answered.
