Ella’s POV
I sighed. It was yet another confession time. I had thought I didn’t have to tell Kevin and could do my investigation in secret without him knowing but it didn’t seem like that was possible.
I wondered why I didn’t want him to know and realized that I was afraid. It was because I was afraid. I was worried he wouldn’t want me anymore because I wasn’t a pure blooded werewolf of the blood moon pack. I didn’t want his affection for me to change and I would like to keep that secret to myself to protect myself.
Are you going to lie to him?
I frowned at Lucy’s question, wondering why she was asking what she already knew the answer to. I wasn’t ever going to lie to Kevin even if the truth killed me. I didn’t think was that good of a liar anyways.
Moreover, I didn’t think I could lie to Kevin. He would know that I was lying and find out the truth on his own eventually. Why couldn’t I save everyone the drama and come out with the truth?
He had known that I was lying back then when I was with the Blue River pack and lied to him that I wasn’t Ella. He had known that I wasn’t Anna instead and had stubbornly refused to go till he proved that I was Ella.
“Ella,” I heard my name and blinked at him.
He had a frown on his face as he stared at me, his eyes boring into mine. “Aren’t you going to talk? You have been thinking about your answer for years now.”
Years? I chuckled at his dramatic response. “It hasn’t even been twenty minutes that we were here.”
He leveled me with an odd look. “You know that is not what I’m asking from you.”
I swallowed. He wouldn’t give up so I might as well force the words out. “I think my father is from the Blue River pack.”
He stared at me for minutes without a word, looking stunned. He knew me for too long and knew I didn’t know who my father was. My mum didn’t speak much of him, devoting most of her life to raising me and fighting for the blood moon pack. Being mute and not having a dad were what made me the most hated omega in the pack.
Eventually, he blinked his way out of the trance he was in and spoke. “Did you meet someone over there who told you that he is your father?”
I shook my head, wishing that was the case. I wouldn’t have had to travel and get myself kidnapped and enslaved. “No. I still don’t know who he is. I was coming back home to ask questions from those who knew my mother before I was born and find out about him.”
“Why then do you say your father might be a werewolf of the blue river pack?”
I sighed. Here comes the moment of truth. “Haven’t you noticed that my wolf fur is blue unlike yours and others in the pack?”
“I did but I thought that was a side effect of the potion you drank to be able to speak.”
“Unlike everyone in the blood moon pack, I have a more gentle side and am not as aggressive as you.” I pointed out to him. “The werewolves of the blood moon pack are known to be powerful and aggressive while those in the blue river pack are more gentle. Didn’t you notice that trait in me?”
“I knew you were gentle and different ever since we were growing up but that was easily explained when you became a physician. I thought you had a gentler disposition of your love for nature and humanity and the nature of your job. The oldest healer in the pack is also more gentle than the others in the pack and I know both of her parents are from the blood moon pack. I should know because the family records of all the werewolves in the pack with their names are in my father’s study.”
I sighed again. It wasn’t going to be easy convincing him that my father might be from the blue river pack but I got something from what he said. If the records of all the werewolves were in his father’s study, then that was where I needed to be first thing when I get back home. There would be something about my mum there and I could find my dad from it.
“Was that why you believe your father is of the blue river pack?” He asked. “Because of the color of your fur and your softer personality?”
“That was why I needed answers before I conclude. I was traveling to find answers to those questions.”
He sighed and finally nodded. “I hope that you find the answers you seek.”
I smiled at him. “Thank you.” I knew that he didn’t believe me yet but it meant a lot that he was giving me support.
I swallowed, prepping myself up with courage to ask the question on my mind as well. I was afraid of what his answer would be but I needed to know.
“Do you still want me?” I asked.
His eyebrows went up at my words. “What do you mean?”
“Will you still want me even if you find out that I am a daughter of the blue river pack?” I asked, fiddling with my fingers. “You know I’m not exactly a pure and I would understand if you don’t want me as your Luna.”
He scoffed. “You are being silly, Ella.” He pulled me closer and before I knew what was going on, he smashed his lips on mine, kissing me senselessly and making me feel dizzy.
He smiled, his eyes lighting up as he raised his head up from mine. “Does that answer your question?”
I smiled shyly, biting gently on my lower lip. “It did.” I was glad and relieved at his response. It was like I didn’t know how much being with him meant to me until that moment.
“Let’s go and meet the others.” He said. “They should have been done with their game by now without feeling pressured by our presence.” He said, stood up and helped me up.
I nodded as I slid my hand into his and got up, knowing that I was going to be fine regardless of how the future seemed if I had Kevin by my side.
Kevin’s POV
The injured men were fine and it was time to go home. I was elated to continue on our journey. I had a more pressing reason why I wanted to be home as faster as I could now. I wanted to know if Ella was right and she was truly a daughter of the blue river pack as much as she was part of the blood moon pack.
If she was right and her finding proved that she was fathered by a werewolf of the blue river pack, then that was huge news which could either ruin or help her.
Her mother was one of the strongest and fiercest warriors in the pack when she was alive and I was sure as shit that she wouldn’t have settled for a weakling of a man. That meant that Ella had two kinds of strong bloods running in her veins. Her blue river pack blood would definitely be as strong as that of the blood moon pack.
She believed that she was not pure but I didn’t believe that. She was a blend of two pure bloods. She was as pure as anyone else in the world. That she had a different blood to ours didn’t make her impure and I was ready to defend that to anyone in my pack if the secret of her birth got leaked out. Secrets never stayed hidden for ever and I was prepared to deal with the aftermath of what she told me if it was true.
I knew Ella was worried about what would happen to her in the pack if others found out but I wasn’t. I was ready to stand with her till everyone accepted her.
I knew her mum to be a loyal person and wondered why she had fallen for a werewolf from the blue river pack despite all the men who wanted her based on what I heard from my father. I knew there would be a story attached to Ella’s birth and I was curious to know.
I wondered if dad knew of Ella’s pedigree but I didn’t think so. He wouldn’t have allowed her to stay if he had known. He wouldn’t have encouraged me to be friends with Ella as a child if he had known.
I knew I was friends with Ella because she was the daughter of his most trusted warrior. If I could remember vividly, dad used to speak fondly of Ella’s mother that she was strong and widely wanted by male wolves but she rejected everyone of them, preferring to keep on fighting instead of getting married and settling down.
I knew dad would have been surprised when she told him that he she was pregnant and I wondered if he had asked her who she was pregnant for. He had probably assumed that she got pregnant for a fling and didn’t get mated to the man because of her desire to keep on fighting because I knew her to be a single mother for as long as I had known her.
It saddened me that Ella hoped to find answers from the blood moon pack when they didn’t have any idea of her pedigree and would despise her if they find out.
“What is the problem?” Liam whispered as he moved closer to me. “You have been awfully quiet ever since we started on this journey.”
I sighed, wishing that I could trust Liam with this secret but it would be wise for me to keep quiet until I find out what the truth really was. If I find out the truth and needed allies on my side to protect Ella, then I would tell him. He was part of those I could trust with Ella and knew that he would never judge her.
“He must be worried that we are getting closer to home.” Andre teased.
“Why would he be worried about going home when he is the alpha of the pack?” Ella asked.
I knew what would follow and my heart raced, beating loudly in my chest. Before I could signal to Andre to keep quiet, the cat was already out of the bag.
“Because of the young female wolves in the pack. They would hate him for coming back home with you.”
“I thought I am the one they would hate.”
“They would hate the alpha as well especially someone’s sister.” Damien said with a pointed look at Liam. “We are telling you this so you can get prepared.” He said to Ella.
I groaned. The bastards were enjoying this. Why did they have to wait for us to get closer to home before telling Ella that? Did they want me to spend the first few days at home begging her? They must have decided to give me a payback when I rubbed it in their faces that their mates weren’t with them.
Those vengeful bastards. The situation would have been funny to me if Ella wasn’t glaring at me with questions in her eyes, asking me to explain what the guys had meant.
I was about to talk when I heard a disturbance and was faced with a pack of rogues. I rolled my eyes at them and sighed.
It was time for another battle.
