Kevin’s POV
It was a fierce battle, tougher than the one we had with him and his family but I didn’t for once think that we wouldn’t win. I wasn’t afraid and was ready to give it all that I’ve got to send this huge bastard to his grave or he wouldn’t let me rest.
I believed in war that once I believed that I would lose, it was highly likely that I would lose the battle as my body would want to follow the path that my mind believed in. I couldn’t have any smear of failure. Not at all. That was why I always stayed in high spirits and confidence even if the opponent was bigger and stronger than I was.
I doubted that the cannibals could exist outside the jungle or they would have gone to the village to wreck havoc on the people there and avenge the death of his family. It was likely their only chance of getting their revenge was here while we were still in the jungle. If we could wound them enough to escape from here, we would be free of them.
I raised myself on my hind leg, latching on the shoulders of one of the cannibals and lashed at his face with my paw.
He howled in pain and pushed me away. I rolled off the ground and bounced off. I risked a glance at my pack and was relieved that they were doing well and holding their forts well. Ella and Liam were fighting with the cannibal father and Damien and Andre were fighting with each of the other friends. I was grateful that Liam was watching out for Ella and protecting her while still letting her fight to save her pride.
The cannibal father had run straight for Ella, targeting her as his opponent. I had wanted to go to him to fight him off when I was pulled back by one of the cannibal’s friend and drawn into a fight with him.
I could bet that they had planned the battle strategy while they were waiting for me. He must have told his friends that he would target Ella and I would rush to fight him so one of them had to stop me from fighting me.
I didn’t think he considered that my mate wasn’t as weak as he wanted to delude himself or that my men were as loyal to my mate as they were to me. I was certain he didn’t think that Liam would rush to fight with Ella when he targeted her instead of him being my side.
I could see the displeasure on his face as he tugged Ella and Liam off his body in their wolf forms.
“You blasted werewolves.” He yelled, the echo resounding all around the jungle.
I couldn’t talk in the wolf form that I was but I could make facial expressions. I smirked at him, my tongue lolling out of my mouth as I made it obvious that I was laughing at him.
I looked away from him, trusting that Liam and Ella could take care of themselves and focused on the cannibal before me. I evaded his blow by bending down and grinning as he hissed in anger that he had merely slashed at the air with his hand.
I ripped at his belly in my crouched down position with my claws and sank deep into his skin, loving as blood gushed out. He groaned in pain loudly and I thought it was an echo until I realized that the growl hadn’t been his alone.
The others had also dealt severe blows on their opponents and as I looked around, I saw the cannibals bleeding from different pores in their bodies.
I was delighted that we were gaining the upper ground and after slashing at my opponent five more times on his face and belly, he gave up and ran off, holding his bleeding bellies.
“I don’t want to die at the hands of a beast.” He hissed as he ran off.
I rolled my eyes, wondering who the beast was between the two of us. The others started retreating as well and the cannibal father’s growls were getting louder as he realized that his friends were giving up and leaving him alone.
“You bastards!” He yelled.
“Give up and mourn your family in peace.” I told him. “You wouldn’t have been in this situation if you hadn’t tried to eat us.”
He hissed. “Will you give up if you were me? I only need to hurt you where it would hurt you and I will be able to move on.”
“You talk too much.” I rolled my eyes in boredom.
“Fine.” He said and arched forward, glaring at Ella. He suddenly yanked her forward, bringing his head down and intending to bite her.
I moved forward but Liam bit me to it. He pulled Ella off his grip and before he could save himself, the cannibal’s teeth came down hard on his shoulder.
Liam screamed in pain and toppled to the ground as the cannibal let him go. The cannibal looked disappointed that he hadn’t gotten Ella and then ran away.
“Liam,” I cried as I rushed forward to him and stopped in my tracks as he started having seizures and foaming at the mouth, his face contorted with pain.
