65. The Deal

Book:Rejected Silent Lone Wolf Published:2025-4-7

Kevin’s POV
It had been two days. Two goddamned days and the bureau leader hadn’t reached out to me. I expected him to have sent his messenger to me yesterday but I didn’t see anyone.
I had stayed at the window all through the day, watching everyone coming towards the apartment but didn’t see anyone. No one had knocked on the even though I had told him I was staying here.
I sighed, wondering how Ella was. I hope the bastard wasn’t overworking her or making her suffer because of the deal I made with the bureau leader.
Liam walked into my bedroom and walked towards me where I was at the window.
He chuckled. “At the window again? At this rate, you will make a dent on the floor from staying here for too long.”
I didn’t turn to him. “I wasn’t staring at the window. I was only looking at the sun.”
He snorted. “I could have fallen for that if I didn’t know you well. I had no idea you were a sucker for nature.”
I smiled, finally turning to him. “It’s not a bad thing if I develop passion and appreciation for nature today. Have you seen how beautiful nature is?”
“Save that lecture for the wolf pups.”
Now that he mentioned it, I missed telling stories to the young pups and running around with them. Having them topple all over me and laughing with them helped me during the time I was looking for Ella and missed her greatly.
They helped me to deal a bit with my loneliness and kept me in touch with my human emotions.
“Yes, the sun is beautiful.” He said.
I nodded. “I’m glad we could agree on that.”
“No one is coming today again.” He blurted out.
I hissed. He shouldn’t have done that. I was trying to not think of that and accept that reality but he just shattered the hope I was clinging to. I didn’t like the way he said it. He said it, not as a probability but as fact.
I didn’t reply, struggling to deal with my emotions.
He sighed. “You are angry. I can feel the anger waves rolling off of you.”
“I’m angry but not at you, Liam. I’m angry at myself for not seeing through the truth earlier and being sluggish with actions. Thank you for jarring me out of my delusion. You are right. No one is coming today as well. I might as well leave this window and get my legs some much deserved rest.”
He nodded. “You truly need the rest. You have been on your feet for close to forty hours.”
I moved to the room, and sighed as my butt landed in a chair. I placed my legs on a table and groaned as my back thanked me for my actions.
Five minutes later, I jumped to my feet. “Let’s go.”
“Where are you going?” He asked, his eyes wide as he stared at me. “I thought you needed to rest.”
“I’ve rested enough. We have to go to the bureau leader’s office. I’ve had enough of sitting around.” I said, walking towards the door.
He grunted but didn’t say a word as he followed me. I didn’t have to hear him speak before I knew what Liam’s thoughts were. He definitely wanted to say I hadn’t been sitting at all.
I barged into the man’s office, ignoring the cries of his secretary running after us that he wasn’t around. I snorted at her pathetic attempts to stop me. As if I would fall for that overly used corporate lie.
I was a werewolf with long legs and impatience running through my veins. She couldn’t have caught up to me even if she wasn’t wearing heels which she was.
The bureau leader looked up, staring at me in surprise as I yanked the door open. He blinked and composed himself.
“I wasn’t expecting you today.” He had the nerve to say and smile.
I growled, moving inside the office with Liam and his secretary on my tail.
“I’m sorry, sir. I tried to stop him but he wouldn’t listen.” The secretary apologized.
“It’s okay, Martha. You couldn’t have stopped him.”
She glanced at me but I ignored her as I took the seat opposite her boss while Liam stood behind me.
“You can go, Martha. It looks like I have a meeting.” He said.
That he did, I grunted.
He ignored my grunt and focused on his secretary. “Postpone my next appointment and make sure no one else comes in.”
I turned to see if she got the instructions right. I would hate to be interrupted. She blushed at her boss’ words and nodded.
“Good. You can go.” He waved, dismissing her.
She glanced at me and then at Liam before turning back to her boss. “Anything for your guests?”
He shook his head. “No, they are not interested in snacks.”
She nodded and left the office, leaving us in silence. I watched as he closed the files he had been reading and stacked them on another pile.
“How can I help you, werewolf?” He asked, folding his hands over each other on the desk as he looked at me.
“I was expecting you to get back to me, slave finder.”
“My name is Ivan.” He scowled.
I nodded.
“Were you planning to get back to me at all, Ivan? It’s been days.”
He shrugged. “You might not know the rules here, werewolf, but the owner has the final say over a wolf. What else was I supposed to do when her owner doesn’t want to let her go?”
I sighed. The count was more of a bastard than I had thought he was. “I trusted you to make it happen.”
“I couldn’t force him. I can’t ruin my relationship with someone that will still be here for someone who is leaving after he gets what he wants.”
I scowled, fully understanding what he meant. After few seconds of silence, I stood up and stared at him. “Take me to the count.”
He gasped, staring at me like I was crazy. “Now?”
I grinned, flashing my teeth at him. “What better time is there to set up a meeting than now?”
He stood up, mumbling something that sounded like crazy werewolves under his breath as he moved towards the door.
