Kevin’s POV
I checked the time as I jumped off the chair in the living room of the apartment I shared with Liam. It was three hours after I left the office of the bureau leader and he should call me by now.
What was keeping him waiting? Was he working on it? I wondered if I needed to threaten him so he could work faster.
Liam walked in, took a glance at me and shook his head as he settled in on the chair I had just left.
“You should calm down and don’t get yourself worked up.” He said.
I turned to him, controlling my urge to growl at him. I knew he meant well for me and was right. It wasn’t his fault that Ella was abducted and that I was in a bad mood.
“I hate this place.” I said, going back to the chair I had left. “I want to leave as fast as I can. How can I stay here when I know my mate is somewhere here being treated as a slave?”
Liam kept quiet, allowing me to vent the way I wanted.
“A sex slave?” I growled. “I can’t get that out of my head.” The mere thought of the count laying a finger on her body makes me want to snap his head off.
“Wait for the bureau leader to get back to you. Every man has a price and I don’t think the count is an exception. Let’s wait for news from the count before we act. This is about Ella and we can’t afford to be rash.”
He nodded. He was right. If only calming down was easy to do as he says.
“I will calm down.” I promised him. I had to do that for Ella’s sake.
“Good. Let me call for room service. I’m starving.”
“No.” I said, putting my hand forward to stop him. “I need some fresh air to cool my head. Let’s go to the dining hall to eat instead of ordering in.”
Liam smiled. “I thought you would never say so.”
“What would you like to eat?” Liam asked once we got to a table and sat down.
I chuckled. “I can order what I want to eat by myself. Let’s not call too much attention to ourselves when we are in public. I don’t want too many people to know I am the alpha of the blood moon pack.”
He smiled shyly, a rare sight. “I’m sorry. Habit, I guess.”
I waved at him. “There is no problem. Thank you for always watching out for me.”
I knew how much Liam was loyal to me and trusted him. If I didn’t trust him, I would have been worried that the issue with his sister would have caused a rift between us. He was cool headed guy and I respected him for that.
He seemed shocked by my words and stared at me for minutes. He blinked and the shock was off his eyes. He was back to factory reset and cleared his throat.
I smiled. “Isn’t this the part where you tell me that I’m welcome?”
“You don’t have to force yourself to be in a good mood, Kevin. The chatty mood doesn’t suit you.”
I sighed. As always, he could see through me.
“I meant what I said though. I didn’t say that because I’m trying to get my mind off Ella.”
Before he could respond, the waiter got to our table. “What would you like to eat, sirs?”
“Meat.” I said, without glancing at the menu. “Steak.”
I was restless and felt like running in the wild but I couldn’t do that. It would be awesome to sink my teeth and claws into the body of an animal after chasing and running them down but I would make do with what I have.
“I don’t want it soft or medium. It should still be hard.”
The waiter gave me an odd look but didn’t talk. He got Liam’s orders, nodded and left.
Liam chuckled immediately the waiter left and I turned to him. “I thought you didn’t want to draw attention to yourself as being an alpha werewolf.”
“That I have weird steak taste doesn’t reveal that I’m a werewolf.”
The waiter was back and we settled down to our meals. I checked my wristwatch unconsciously and sighed.
“You will hear soon from him.” Liam sighed.
“What?” I glanced up at him.
“You just checked your wristwatch again.”
I sighed. “It’s unconscious.”
He smiled. “I know.”
“I miss her.”
“I know but you’ve found her. It’s only a matter of time before you have her back. You spent five years looking for her before you found her. Waiting for some hours for him to get back to you wouldn’t kill you.”
I chuckled and shook my head as I cut the steak. It was hard as I wanted. “Have you ever considered being a motivational speaker?”
He snorted. “I would be restless that I wasn’t in a fight to stay long in it and succeed in it.”
I nodded. “Let’s finish eating and take a walk. We need to release all this pent-up energy.”
“I am in.”
“Can I have your number?” A lady said as she walked up to our table and slipped her phone before me.
I narrowed her eyes at her and glanced at Liam. Was this how the ladies here behave?
She pouted. “Do you want me to beg? You are handsome and I like you. I see you are new here. Why don’t I give you a call so I can make your stay memorable?”
“I know I’m handsome. Yes, I’m new here but not here for you. I am here with my wife.”
She snorted. “Why are you not with her?” She glanced at Liam and gasped. “Are you talking about him? Is he your wife? Are you gay?”
What insolence? Liam glanced at the angry expression on my face and jumped to his feet. “You have to leave, young lady.”
“Your loss.” She snorted and walked away.
I sighed. I couldn’t wait to get Ella out of here and leave.
