Ella’s POV
Kevin pushed me behind him, shielding me from the count. He went straight to the stance he used for war and his aura felt threatening. I didn’t have to see his eyes to know his gaze would be intense as well.
I wondered how the count wasn’t intimidated already. I held onto the his arm, not because I was scared and needed him to protect me from the count but for his own sake.
He was alone here and I didn’t want him to lose control. I doubted the count was alone and Kevin was going to be in danger if he made a move towards the count.
I wouldn’t let him lose control and get himself lynched.
“You have to breathe, Kevin. Stay calm. Okay?” I whispered behind him.
I could tell that he was listening and I blew out a breath, feeling my heart relax with relief. He wasn’t going to do anything stupid.
“Don’t do anything rash, Kevin.” I reminded him. “Stay calm, please.”
He glared dangerously at the count, his voice a feral growl when he spoke. “I’m afraid I can’t let her go. She is my woman.”
My heart went into an overdrive. Oh! He shouldn’t have said that. I knew he shouldn’t have said that but couldn’t help the thrill that went through me at his words.
I loved how he didn’t hesitate to proclaim me as his mate to anyone and anywhere.
The count sneered, looking at him as if he was crazy. “Are you kidding me? How can she be your woman? She is my slave.”
I felt Kevin’s rage before I saw him move. I gasped loudly as he broke free from my hold and threw a punch at the count.
The count fell down, holding his bleeding nose.
I sighed. There he had done it. The count shouldn’t have called me his slave. Kevin had barely been holding on to control. I glanced down at the count who was whimpering as he rubbed at his broken and bleeding nose.
From my medical experience, I knew it was going to take time before his nose healed. Kevin was the one of the strongest wolves in the pack and he always packed a mean punch even when he wasn’t burning with rage.
My eyes widened as the count’s bodyguards rushed to where we were, surrounding us. I knew he wasn’t alone.
I hated that what I had been trying to avoid was about to happen. There was no how we could avoid a fight at this moment.
Kevin looked back at me, sensing my fear. “Don’t worry, Ella. I got this covered.”
I didn’t doubt that he did as I glanced at him. He was spoiling for a fight and ready for them all. His feet danced on the ground and he seemed too eager to throw a kick at the count.
I looked at the seven bodyguards the count had with him all with their swords. The count also had a gun but I knew that wasn’t a big concern for Kevin. He could overpower and kill them all in his wolf form. I knew that was what Kevin was thinking of.
Lucy stirred inside of me and I knew she was responding to Eric. She could sense his eagerness to come out and fight.
I couldn’t let that happen. The count knew that I was a wolf but he didn’t know yet what Kevin was. He mustn’t know that he was the alpha of the blood moon pack. I wasn’t going to let Kevin risk his identity like that.
This town was full of hidden dangers and revealing our identities would definitely cause trouble. Asides the count, I didn’t think anyone else here knew what I was. I doubted the bodyguards here knew the count had bought a wolf as his sex slave and I wanted to keep it that way.
If we fought here, everyone in town would know what we were. The noise would definitely attract the guests at the banquet and Kevin would have a lot to deal with. I didn’t think he could fight them all without getting injured even if he was a big, bad wolf and they were all humans.
That they were humans didn’t mean that they were weak.
“You can’t fight, Kevin. Not here. Not now.”
I stepped out from behind him without waiting for his response and turned to the count.
“I’m sorry, my lord. He seems to be mistaken. I hope you will forgive him. I hope you will for the sake of your slave.”
“What!” Kevin glared at me in shock, pulling me by the arm to look at him. “What the hell are you saying?”
“Be quiet.” I mouthed as I stared at him, hoping he could read the signal in my eyes.
I hoped he could see that I was doing this for his sake and wasn’t trying to betray him again.
The count seemed appeased that I had referred to myself as his slave which was what I wanted.
“Who is he?” He asked, flicking Kevin an annoyed look. He still held his nose though the bleeding had stopped. He held the handkerchief one of his bodyguards had given him to his nose and winced when he looked down at it and noticed that it was soaked with blood.
“He is my ex-boyfriend.” I said to the count.
