Kevin’s POV
I was ready. My body charged and brimmed with excitement. There were two things that got me excited asides sex: war. I was ready to fight. We found some Rogues at a factory and were on a quest to kill. I would rather die fighting them all than let them be.
If only Ella was here, making love to a mate after victory in war is the best feeling ever.
I rolled my eyes at Eric’s words. He didn’t have to remind me of how Ella had rejected and humiliated me in the presence of the Blue River pack. I still cringed when I remembered that memory.
Liam and I led the Blood Moon pack’s men to attack the Rogues stationed at the factory. They weren’t expecting us and I smiled at the look on their faces. That was exactly the way I liked it.
“Surprise!” I laughed, staring at Kenneth.
He looked rattled but it was only for a moment. He quickly regained his composure and scoffed, acting the tyrant that he was.
“You might have caught us by surprise but that didn’t mean that we won’t defeat you.”
“You seem to be sure of yourself.” I sneered at him. “What makes you think we can’t defeat you if we were able to sneak up on you?”
He arched his eyebrows at me. “Who was that woman who died? Wasn’t it the mother of your mate? Oh! She can’t be your mate.” He cackled. “I heard you rejected her. Stupid woman. How can she die to save the one who rejected her daughter?”
I growled, my hands tightening into fists. My eyes narrowed into slits and my vision turned red. How dare he talk of Ariana that way and ridicule her integrity and reputation?
I swore to myself that he wasn’t going to get away with this. I looked at the disgusting silicone mask on his face and wanted to pull it off. I wanted to do more than that. I wanted to plunge my claws into his flesh and pluck out his black eyes. I would cut off his head and have the young wolves in the pack kick it all around the field.
Get him, Kevin. I won’t forgive you if you don’t.
I snorted. Eric could be dramatic at times.
You don’t have to tell me that, Eric. I want get back at him as much as you want.
I fired back at him. I could sense him laughing at me and ignored him. I could always deal with him later. Right now, my only focus was Kenneth, the blasted bastard.
“Charge!” I shouted to my men, flying at Kenneth.
I shifted in mid-air and lunged at Kenneth, throwing me to the ground. We both rolled around, kicking and thrashing against each other.
I could tell the battle was fierce around me but I knew my men had gotten everything covered. I was going to deal with Kenneth and they were going to deal with the others, making sure none of the other Rogues moved closer to me to defend their leader.
I growled at Kenneth, my eyes flashing in rage at him. I wanted to yell at him to die but I couldn’t in my wolf form. I got a good grip of his neck and slashed at it with my claws, making sure he knew what I thought of him and how much I hated him.
I hissed as he rolled away from my hold before I could sink my claws deep into his neck. I could have ended his miserable, cruel life at that moment.
I ran after him, aware that Liam was moving closer to me and flanking me. As expected, he wouldn’t move far from me and would fight opponents only close to where I was while I dealt with my target.
“You seem to be losing your touch. Are you getting weak, alpha?” He taunted me. “I thought it would be easy for you to kill me. Who is the weakling now?”
I hissed as I turned to human form. “Move closer if you are curious about the answer.” I ran after him.
“Are you tired to run after me?” His laughter rang out as he ran farther from where I was. “As expected, you talk too much than you can do.”
I snorted, glaring at him. He was bleeding from his neck, limbs and at the stomach while I had only a tear on my cheek. I couldn’t believe he still dared to call me a talkative with no action.
“You must be insane.” I yelled at him.
He laughed. “You have to have a bit of craziness to be a Rogue. It comes with the blood.”
“Useless blood.”
“Better than yours.”
I didn’t reply. I had almost gotten to him. I only need to catch him and deliver the blow that will send him to his grave. Ariana would be proud of me and finally get to rest in peace. I wondered what Ella would think of me if she found out that I killed the rogues off.
Will her opinion of me change? I hoped it would.
“What happened to the wolf you rejected?”
“It’s none of your business.” I growled at him. He shouldn’t dare to talk about Ella.
“News have it that you have been looking for her.” He slipped and fell to the ground.
I smiled in glee at his fall. Here was my chance to get rid of the idiot.
“You are dead meat, Rogue.”
He looked up, his head turned to the side and suddenly gasped. “Isn’t that the girl you were looking for?”
I turned immediately to where he was looking at. In that split second, he jumped off the ground and ran away. Some of his men who weren’t severely wounded broke free and followed him. I growled and roared out loud as I realized that I had been tricked.
I shouldn’t have underestimated how cunning the Rogues were. I cursed at myself for getting played with my emotions.
I was an idiot. I had revealed to him that Ella was my weakness. I had let the enemy get the best of me. I hated myself at that time.
Hey, don’t beat yourself up too much. It’s what I would have done.
I smiled at the thought of Eric comforting me. Thanks, Eric.
But you lost him though. That is bad.
I chuckled. Of course, Eric was going nag about it.
“Throw those wounded Rogues into the dungeon. The rest of you should come with me. Those bastards couldn’t have gone far.”
“Yes, Alpha.” The men shouted and ran after me.
Liam led the werewolves to pull the remaining Rogues off and threw them into the dungeon.
They were fast. I hissed as we moved closer to the border between the Blood Moon pack and the Blue River pack and still haven’t found them.
I stopped as I saw an overturned carriage at the border and moved closer, wondering who had been in it and what had happened there.
Whatever had happened here, it didn’t seem good. I could see bloodstains as I moved closer and I gasped as I noticed a bag and medicine box on it. There is a familiar smell in the air, I suspected who that could belong to but I was afraid to admit it.
I inspected the dead coachman’s body, a foreboding feeling crawling over my skin. Did that really belong to Ella? Had she been coming back home? To me?
I held my breath in my throat, not wanting to accept the reality before me. If that was Ella, then it was bad news.
I turned to Liam. “Check if Ella is still with the Blue River pack.”
Liam bowed and left without a word.
The next day, Maya came to the camp. I was annoyed when I was told that she was outside, asking of me. I was worried sick, waiting for news about Ella and she was the last person I wanted to see.
I knew Maya wouldn’t leave until I see her so I went outside to meet her. “Where do you think this place is that you dare to come uninvited?”
She smiled. “I love how you tell me that you miss me.”
“I don’t miss you.”
“You are a bad liar.”
I rolled my eyes, wishing she would believe me for her own good. “What do you want?”
“My uncle is throwing a banquet for his birthday. Be my date.”
“I’m busy.” I didn’t hesitate in replying.
She snorted. “I heard you lost the Rogues. That means you can come home.”
I hissed, wondering who the idiots who were running their mouths were. “Exactly why I’m busy. Losing them means I have no time to waste in finding and killing them.”
She stared at me in silence before responding. “Do you mean to say I’m a waste of time?”
“You just said it.”
She smiled, moving closer to me. “I know you are mad at losing the Rogues and that is why you need to relax. Be my date, Kevin, and let’s have fun again.” She rubbed her hand over my chest.
I moved away her. I was done with having fun with her. “I don’t need to have fun. I only need to kill all the Rogues.”
She wouldn’t give up. “Come on, Kevin. A date wouldn’t kill you.”
Actually, it would. I knew what she was trying to do. She wanted to use me to send a message to the female wolves in the pack that I was hers. She was wrong. I belonged to Ella.
“Kevin.” She whined.
I snapped at her, irritated at her clingy attitude. “Leave.” I ordered, pointing at the exit to the camp.
She looked stunned. “Are you serious, Kevin?”
Of course, I was. My impatience to have her leave must be written all over my face.
“I guess it must be true that you found Ella.” She hissed at me, her tone bitter.
I didn’t have the time to deal with her jealousy. Maybe she would leave me alone if she knew Ella was back.
“You are a jerk.” She hissed at me. “You used me all this time while you knew it was Ella you wanted.”
“I didn’t ask you to throw yourself at me. Last time I checked, you jumped into my bed readily far more than I asked you to.”
Her eyes shone with tears and I knew she would have slapped me if I wasn’t the alpha.
“Leave, Maya. You know I can’t deal with crying pussies.”
“Bastard.” She spat and left.
Great. Now two female wolves in the pack hates your guts. Eric sneered at me.
Shut up, Eric.
It wasn’t long that Maya left that Liam returned to camp. The expression on his face mirrored the anxiety in my heart.
“Ella is missing, Kevin. She isn’t with the Blue River pack.”
