29. Alpha Oscar

Kevin’s POV
Kevin, you missed the chance to ask Ella about that necklace.
Eric muttered discontentedly.
I sighed helplessly, “I also wanted to ask, but didn’t you feel that Ella wasn’t very willing to talk to me? We had an argument last week, and she must feel awkward seeing me. If I were to ask her now, ‘Which man gave you that necklace?’ or ‘Did another man propose to you?’ Do you think that would be appropriate?”
Eric pondered for a moment, tilting his head in confusion,
What’s wrong with that? Kevin, love needs to be spoken out loud. If you’re not straightforward, Ella will run off with another male wolf. I even tried to communicate with her wolf, only to be rejected. It’s really sad. You know, that Luke lives near Luna Manor.
I rubbed my forehead in frustration; sometimes, talking to wolves is really tiring.
“Yes, they’re still mad at us. Just think, if you and I had a big fight, and you saw me extremely annoyed, not even wanting to talk to me. Yet, I always persist in chatting with you. How would you feel?”
Eric replied without hesitation, “I would feel like punching you to shut you up.”
Me: …
Then he burst into exaggerated laughter,
Hahaha, I get it now, Kevin. I never thought a playboy like you could be so cautious in observing women’s reactions.
I felt somewhat irritated, “Eric, are you mocking me?”
He shrugged.
So, are you planning to drive Ella away like this, back to Luna Manor of the Blue River Pack? We can’t easily enter that place.
Me: “Don’t worry, everything is under my control.”
Then a knock on the door interrupted us, Liam walked into the study and handed me some documents.
“Alpha Kevin, here are the documents you requested.”
I nodded, indicating for him to explain the contents.
“After our informant’s investigation, a year ago, seeds of the illusion grass appeared at the underground auction house in Utopia Town, bought by a black wolf at the time. It’s highly likely that those seeds were planted in The Darkwood afterwards. As for why they shifted their focus to the Blue River Pack, I reckon they wanted to test whether Alpha Oscar is a timid leader.”
I flipped through the documents, smiling with interest. These Rogues, they’re in for a treat this time. Although the Blue River Pack has stayed out of conflicts for centuries, preferring peace and prosperity, Alpha Oscar is an extremely proud individual and very protective.
“Well then, let’s go to the Alpha camp of the Blue River Pack.”
“Okay, Alpha.”
An hour later, Liam and I arrived at Alpha Oscar’s office. We sat in chairs, waiting for about ten minutes until Alpha Oscar and his beta Aaron entered.
“Welcome, Alpha Kevin, beta Liam,” beta Aaron bowed.
Alpha Oscar didn’t say anything, he sat in the central chair of the conference room, his deep brown eyes exuding a sense of dignity as he stared at us.
Honestly, this was my first time meeting the Alpha of the Blue River Pack. He looked a few years older than my father, but taller by several inches, his cheeks covered in gray-white stubble. If he weren’t staring at us right now, he would appear gentler.
“So, Alpha Kevin, what is the purpose of your visit to me?” Alpha Oscar asked, his tone indifferent.
“Alpha Oscar, this is the information we recently gathered. Alpha thought you might be interested,” Liam respectfully handed over the documents.
I crossed my legs lazily, casually observing Alpha Oscar. This old stubborn man harbors biases against me because of my pursuit of the black wolf. I was curious if he could maintain his tolerant and compassionate demeanor after seeing Rogues killing his wolves.
As he skimmed through the papers, his brows furrowed.
I smirked.
He lifted his deep brown eyes, catching sight of my relaxed posture, and said displeasedly, “Alpha Kevin, why do you have this information? The Blue River Pack and our Blood Moon Pack have had no contact for centuries. What purpose does your investigation serve?”
“Take it easy, Alpha Oscar. You know, our Blood Moon Pack has a vendetta with the Rogues. Five years ago, they killed our wolves. Over the years, we’ve been tracking their movements. Finding this information was purely coincidental,” I toyed with the teacup in my hand. “You’ve witnessed the methods of the Rogues. Since we both have the same enemy, why not join forces?”
Oscar snorted and tossed the documents onto the table. “Join forces? The Blue River Pack has abstained from any factional disputes for centuries. I appreciate your reminder, but please leave.”
Oscar’s dismissal didn’t intimidate me. “Alpha Oscar, I understand you dislike politics, but we all know the Rogues won’t give up easily. Seven years ago, they wiped out the Black Moon Pack. Then, two years later, they openly invaded our Blood Moon Pack, killing our warrior Ariana Moore and nearly twenty wolves. Now, realizing that my Blood Moon Pack isn’t easy to deal with, they’ve shifted their focus to your Blue River Pack.”
“As far as I know, Rogues have a wide range of activities. They collaborate with alchemists in human society, engage in drug and weapon trafficking, and have influence even in Utopia Town. Their ambitions are not to be underestimated. As the saying goes, being kind to enemies is being cruel to oneself.”
Oscar showed hesitation. “So, what do you think their goal is?”
“To rule the werewolf realm.”
Oscar’s pupils flickered.
I set aside my playful demeanor and took a sip of tea. “They meticulously plan to expand their influence, stockpile advanced weapons, concoct rare poisons, infiltrate the supernatural realm, and their ultimate goal is likely to dominate the werewolf realm.”
“If you don’t want the Blue River Pack, painstakingly built by your ancestors, to be destroyed by your hands, you need to take precautions in advance.”
After a few minutes of contemplation, he finally compromised. “So, what kind of cooperation are you proposing?”
I smirked triumphantly.
Kevin, so this was your plan.
Eric teased.
