Ella’s POV
I curled up, hugging myself. Although I didn’t want to admit it, deep down, I missed Kevin. But I was afraid of repeating the mistakes of five years ago, afraid of being hurt again. So, in order not to be an Omega waiting to be bullied and abandoned, I had to move forward.
Cheer up, my little wolf. You’re not a worthless mute Omega; you will become a great female warrior.
I remembered my mother’s encouragement, and my eyes turned red instantly. If she were still alive, she would surely support my decision.
The next morning dawned bright as I stepped out into the estate. The housekeeper greeted me with a warm smile, handing me a set of dresses neatly folded.
“These are for you, my dear. As the new physician, it’s time you dress the part. Alpha Oscar likes his staff to be presentable,” she said with a kind twinkle in her eyes.
I nodded appreciatively, holding the dresses close.
The fabric felt luxurious, and I couldn’t help but wonder how different my life had become in such a short span. Today marked the beginning of my role as a senior apothecary in Luna’s estate. The responsibilities and expectations weighed on my shoulders, but there was a sense of excitement that overshadowed any nerves.
As I changed into the elegant attire, I couldn’t help but marvel at the transformation. The dresses were not only comfortable but also spoke of sophistication. Once dressed, I made my way to the physician’s hall, where the trainer awaited.
The trainer, a middle-aged woman with an air of authority, greeted me with a nod.
“You must be the new physician. I’m Trainer Clara. Follow me; I’ll show you around and brief you on your responsibilities.”
Trainer Clara led me through the hall, introducing me to various rooms filled with herbs, potions, and medical instruments. The sheer abundance of resources left me wide-eyed and amazed. The scent of herbs wafted through the air, making me both soothing and invigorating.
“This is where you’ll be spending most of your time,”
Trainer Clara explained, gesturing to a well-equipped workspace.
“As a senior apothecary, you’ll be responsible for preparing medicines, potions, and assisting in medical procedures when needed.”
“Thank you so much. I’ll make sure to use them with pride.” I said.
The room filled with the earthy aroma of herbs. The lead physician, a seasoned apothecary named Dr. Helena, was engrossed in her work.
“Dr. Helena, allow me to introduce Anna, our new senior apothecary. She’s a promising talent, selected with first place in the competition.”
Dr. Helena looked up from her work, her eyes appraising me with a keen gaze.
“Welcome, Anna. It’s an honor to have you join us. The trainer speaks highly of your skills.”
“Yes, Dr. Helena, Anna is the pharmacist who solved the geranium incident. You know, s how much this incident helped us.” Clara said.
“It’s her?” Dr. Helena showed admiration.
“Yeah.”
I watched their interaction with confusion.
My cheeks flushed with a mix of nervousness. Clara gestured towards the abundant herbs lining the shelves. “Dr. Helena, Anna has a passion for herbs and remedies. She’s eager to learn and contribute to our efforts.”
“Passion is a valuable trait in our line of work. Let’s see how you fare with the herbs. Take a look around and familiarize yourself.”
Excitement surged within I as I stepped forward, my eyes wide with wonder. I curiously sniffed the herbs, reveling in the diverse scents that filled the air. The lead physician observed me with a smile.
“Herbs are the essence of our craft. Each one has unique properties and healing potential. It’s essential to understand them intimately.” Dr. Helena said.
As I immersed herself in the world of herbs, the tranquility of the physician’s hall was interrupted by hushed whispers from a group of new physicians who had been observing.
“Look at her, sniffing around like she’s in a garden. Is she a country bumpkin?”
“Isn’t she the mute Omega from the Mad Granny Clinic? Her throat was actually cured.”
“Oh, mute Omega?”
“I heard she’s from a small village. Probably never seen herbs like these before.”
I ignored these comments, and remained focused on my exploration. The fair trainer, noticing the whispers, intervened with a stern expression.
“Enough of that. Show some respect. Anna was chosen for her skills, and she deserves the same courtesy as any of you.” Clara’s authoritative tone silenced the gossiping new physicians, redirecting our attention to our own tasks. She turned to me with a reassuring smile.
“Ignore them, Anna. Let your actions speak for themselves. Now, let’s continue your tour.”
“Listen up, everyone. Anna here earned her place through hard work and talent. She secured first place in the competition, and Luna herself recognized her abilities. Instead of mocking, learn from her dedication and passion for the craft. We’re a team here, and we rise together.”
Clara’s words resonated, creating a shift in the atmosphere. There are a total of 5 new physicians here. The two she-wolves curled their lips and looked at me with disdain, while the other 3 chagrined by the reprimand, and cast admiring glances at me.
“Hi, I’m Lily. My family has a long line of physicians from another clinic. Medicine practically runs in our veins, and I’m here to continue the legacy.”
“Holly here. My family’s known for brewing spirits, but I wanted to heal spirits instead. Against their wishes, I pursued medicine.”
“Sophie. I come from a poor farming family. Medicine was my ticket out of the fields, a chance to change my destiny.”
As each physician shared their story, I standed among them, although I was a little nervous, I kept smiling.
“I’m Anna. I come from a small village, and my journey to medicine was a winding one. But here I am, ready to learn and contribute.” I said.
Although I am not good at socializing, the atmosphere here makes me feel very relaxed. Perhaps, as someone who likes herbal medicine, it will be easier for me to become friends with a werewolf who likes herbal medicine.
You did well today, Anna.
Lucy jumped out and praised me.
I raised an eyebrow.
It seems Camila is right, this is the place for you, and the werewolves here are very friendly. Please keep your heart opened and I hope you can make new friends.
I: Yes, I will try it, thank you, Lucy.
