Don’t come near her
Chase’s POV
I paced my room. A thousand and one things ran through my mind. How could Arya talk to me in that manner? Wasn’t she meant to be the one begging? Remorseful? What has gotten into her? Maybe somebody has been filling her head with lies. I could only think of one person and one person only.
Damn! Why did I have to be away? Staying away has caused me alot.
I slammed my hands on the table. Who knows what lies Jake must be feeding her. Immediately I grabbed my phone.
“Angus meet me outside the palace, we need to go somewhere!” I put the phone down and grabbed my coat.
Somebody is going to get it this time.
****************************************************************
“Your highness where are we going?” Angus asked as he got into the car.
I sighed. I didn’t say a word. Angus glanced at me as he pulled away from the palace.
“It’s an errand” I said. ” Follow the path the gps shows”
I had input the location before Angus came. If I actually tell him where we were headed, Angus would not want to come alone. He wouldn’t dare. He was quite calculative.
Angus drove till it was getting dark. I loved that’s he didn’t ask me where we were going.
“You have reached your destination. You have reached upon destination” the GPS said as soon as the car came to a holt.
“Where are we?” Angus finally asked. I knew he had been dying to ask.
I Sighed heavily.” We are at the blackridge”
Angus swiftly to face me. ” Your highness this is Jake’s secret home”
“I know”
He ran a hand through his hair on frustration.
“Why didn’t you tell me? I would have-”
“Brought reinforcement? More guards?”
“Yes” he said.” You know that Jake Lucas is the one person that you should home prepares to see. That idiot can do anything”
“I know and I came prepared” I muttered and began to unlock the car. ” Just follow my lead Angus and there will no problem okay?”
He nodded.
I stepped out of my car, the crisp night air doing little to cool the fire burning in my veins. My body Stiffened. That was how I felt when I was in an unfamiliar zone. I sniffed at the strange scent around. It smelled funny. Not good funny but bad funny. Typical of Jake and his evil doings.
Who knew what he was up to now?
The dim glow of streetlights and the moon cast long shadows of his men standing luke statues. It was proof he was here.
I knew he’d be. Jake Lucas, the bastard who thinks Arya is his. Oh I hope he doesn’t push me or I swear I will have hos head on a stake tomorrow morning. I don’t care about the old times
I clenched my fists, marching forward. The stench of alcohol and sweat thickened as I reached the back entrance, where two of his men stood post. I turned around and felt ease with Angus behind me. Even though it was just the two of us, I knew I was covered.
I looked up to see the two men. They tensed when they saw me, their hands inching toward their weapons, but I didn’t slow down.
“I’m here for Jake,” I said, my voice low, steady.
One of them sneered. “You got an appointment, Boss?” I narrowed my eyes at him. He looked oddly familiar
“I don’t need one.”
Before he could open his mouth again, the door swung open. Jake stepped out, his lazy smirk in place, a cigarette between his fingers. He took one look at me, exhaled a slow stream of smoke, and grinned.
“hmm now look what the cat dragged out .” His tone was mocking, amused, like this was all a joke to him. ” long time no see, what are you doing here?”
I took a step closer, ignoring the muscle in his jaw that twitched when I invaded his space. ” listen and listen well” I growled. “Stay the hell away from Arya.”
His grin grew. “You came all this way just to tell me that?” He flicked his cigarette aside. “She used to be mine, you know. Maybe she still-”
I grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against the brick wall before he could finish that sentence. His men moved, but Angus pinned down to a spot with a gun. It was a purifying gun. It was a big one. I stopped for a second to wonder how he had carried that without me seeing it.
“Touchy, aren’t we?” he said, amusement still lacing his voice. “Did I hit a nerve?”
I leaned in, my voice going lower “I don’t give a damn about what you had with her. It’s over. She’s mine now.”
Jake let out a low chuckle. “Yours?” He met my gaze, his own eyes dark with something unreadable. “Funny, because last I checked, Arya doesn’t belong to anyone.”
I tightened my grip, my wolf clawing beneath my skin. “I’m not warning you again. Stay. Away.”
Jake’s smirk didn’t falter. He cocked his head, eyes sharp. “Or what?”
I let go of his collar, but only to slam my fist into his jaw. His head snapped to the side, and for a second, everything stilled. Then he wiped the blood from his lip and laughed-a deep, throaty sound that made my blood boil.
“Now that,” he said, shaking out his shoulders, “was a mistake.”
I barely had time to react before he swung. His fist connected with my ribs, hard. Pain exploded through my side, but I didn’t back down. I caught his next punch, twisting his arm back before shoving him away. He staggered but steadied himself, his smirk still there, more blood staining his teeth.
“You think you can scare me off, Chase?” he asked, voice low. “You think just because you’re her mate, that means she’s forgotten me? Why don’t you ask her who has her heart now? Huh?
I forced my breathing to steady. I wasn’t here to fight. Not tonight. I met his gaze, letting the full weight of my presence settle between us.
“I don’t need to scare you,” I said in a carefully controlled voice “Because she doesn’t even think about you anymore.”
Something flickered in his eyes-brief, sharp, gone too fast to catch. But I saw it.
“I have stuff with her” he grinned touching his lips where I had hit him. ” Not yet, I need her for stuff”
I was tempted to ask what hit I held myself . I took a step back. “I don’t care. Stay away from her, Jake.”
Then I turned and walked away, leaving him in the dark.
