Chapter 158: What Secret Do I Hold?

I was grateful for Marek. He wasn’t just a bodyguard to me-he felt more like a good friend.
Now, Evelyn often went to Judy. They were in a relationship, and while I had no right to stop her, she was my only friend here. As her time with me dwindled, I couldn’t help but feel lonely sometimes.
Thankfully, Marek was around more often these days. He even played video games with me. After we got tired of playing, I ordered some takeout, including the semi-raw beef Marek loved. He ate it with such joy that it reminded me of a child.
Marek looked only a year or two younger than me, but he didn’t understand many of the rules of human society. For some reason, he made me think of Magnus. In some ways, Magnus and Marek were alike. They both had this childlike demeanor when facing certain things.
But now, I didn’t know how to approach Magnus anymore.
At one point, I thought Magnus was the better match for me. But now, it seemed like my body-and my heart-were more drawn to Kael. Being with Kael made me feel completely at ease. Around Magnus, I couldn’t help but put on a more refined, ladylike facade. But I knew that wasn’t the real me.
Should I just tell Magnus the truth?
I turned to Marek and asked, “Do you have someone you like?”
“I don’t like humans,” Marek replied. “But if I had to say, Seraphina, you’re my favorite human.”
His bluntness caught me off guard, almost like a confession. I furrowed my brows. “Why would you say that?”
“I was initially drawn to your unique scent. I don’t know why, but a voice in my head told me that if I got close to you, I’d become a powerful werewolf,” Marek admitted.
“Why would you think that?” His words made my heart tighten with unease.
“I don’t know. It just felt like an instinct, a subconscious thought. That’s why I kept approaching you.”
“Besides you, are there… other things that are uncontrollably drawn to me?” I asked hesitantly.
Marek nodded. “Yes, but I drove away the weaker ones. If they’re stronger, there’s nothing I can do but inform Kael.”
I thought of Leo-the werewolf who had disguised himself as a hunter. Back then, Marek couldn’t beat him, so he called Kael for help. Thinking about it now, Kael had indeed protected me from danger many times.
Still, I felt lost.
Could I really be a werewolf?
“Have you ever met another werewolf who exudes this scent?” I asked, hoping Marek could give me a clear answer.
Marek shook his head. “No. Honestly, you’re the only one I’ve encountered. That’s why I acted so recklessly at first. I should apologize for that.”
I quickly waved my hand. “It’s fine. You don’t need to apologize.”
“So, if that’s the case, I can’t really be a werewolf, right?”
Marek shook his head again, looking confused. “I don’t understand either. If you were a werewolf, I’d think you’d be able to summon your wolf form by now, or it would emerge to protect you in danger. But so far, you still seem like an ordinary human.”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but smile. “Exactly. Maybe I really am just a regular human.”
But if I were just an ordinary human, why did my scent attract so many people?
I fell into deep thought.
My mother always told me I was their child. I sipped my soda, letting the sweetness bring me a moment of happiness.
Maybe I was overthinking.
I was so small and insignificant. Whatever happened next was out of my control. All I could do was deal with things as they came.
Kael and Marek would protect me.
That thought startled me.
I hadn’t realized how much I’d started to rely on Kael.
It must be because staying with him gave me the greatest sense of security.
Even if I didn’t want to admit it, after facing so much danger, I had to acknowledge that I’d grown used to his presence.

The next morning, I went to class.
The campus seemed calm and peaceful today. I figured Lucian had been captured by Kael and wouldn’t hurt me anymore.
Lucian was no longer the same person.
He wasn’t human anymore; he had become a werewolf. And not just any werewolf-he seemed incredibly powerful.
How could someone become such a formidable werewolf right after transforming?
I couldn’t wrap my head around it.
Was it because of that potion?
Whoever created it must have been extraordinary.
To turn a human into a werewolf so easily and even enhance their abilities to such an extent-it was almost unbelievable.

The day was packed with classes. During the lunch break, Evelyn and I went to the cafeteria. After choosing our favorite meals, we sat down at a table.
A little while later, Magnus walked over and sat beside me.
“Seraphina, what a coincidence running into you here,” he said.
I was surprised and, honestly, not thrilled to see him.
Deep down, I felt that being with Magnus was the logical choice, but it didn’t make me as happy as being with Kael.
At the same time, I worried Magnus might become a werewolf.
I couldn’t openly reject him. If I did, would he end up like Lucian?
God, I didn’t think I was that charming, but who knew what might happen? The uncertainty scared me.
Facing Magnus’s gentle blue eyes, I forced a smile. “Yeah, what a coincidence. I’ve been so busy with classes today that I decided to eat on campus. It’s convenient before heading back to class.”
“Wow, same here. My schedule’s packed today,” Magnus said, rubbing his brow.
Evelyn glanced at me, then at Magnus. She looked like she wanted to say something but ultimately stayed silent, quietly eating her meal.
