“You are so funny, that’s our family’s property. What does an illegitimate daughter want?” the person continued.
Callie was almost tired of the frequent family disputes among the wealthy.
She said to Albert, “The reason I don’t go back is because of these constant fights. It’s too exhausting, and I don’t have the energy for it. I don’t want that kind of high society life.”
“Please convey to the Ellison family that I have no intention of returning for now, so they don’t need to worry… and take care of their health.”
Albert hesitated for a long time but eventually nodded in agreement. He glanced back at the waiter behind him.
The waiter was still standing there, being stared at impatiently by Mollie. She looked up with a fierce glare, as if warning: Look again, and I’ll gouge out your eyes!
Callie was dumbfounded, her hand holding the cutlery trembled. In a flash, she seemed to guess who this person was…
Tsk.
Mollie widened her eyes, the corners slightly bloodshot.
On the other side, in the midst of their conversation, Albert told Callie, “That restaurant is owned by a friend of mine. The food is very authentic. You should try it sometime.”
Mollie overheard and mocked, “Mayor Albert, isn’t this inappropriate? Show kindness at the expense of your friend’s benefits?”
Her words were sharp, and Callie tugged at her sleeve.
Albert looked a bit embarrassed.
Callie quickly smoothed things over, “I’ll definitely come often in the future, but I might not be in Ylosea frequently.”
This made all three of them look up.
“What do you mean?”
The waiter who was serving dishes looked intrigued.
“I found a job in Anbusea and might settle down there.”
“Settle down?” Mollie choked on her meat and raised her hand resolutely, “Waiter, bring me a glass of water, quick!”
After she spoke, the ever-ready waiter did not move.
The atmosphere… became awkward.
Mollie impatiently looked up and met the waiter’s calm gaze, which seemed to ask: Um? Are you sure you still want water?
She gasped and quickly withdrew her hand, burying her head again, “No, no need!”
Callie found it puzzling and thought it strange that even Mollie couldn’t command this restaurant’s waiter.
Mollie finally succumbed to the pressure and went to the restroom.
When she returned, Callie checked the time and decided to leave with Albert.
They called the waiter to settle the bill, but he confusedly informed them, “The bill for this private room has been paid.”
Albert and Callie exchanged glances, while Mollie seemed to understand clearly and chuckled softly. She looked up and noticed that the “waiter” had disappeared.
“Could it be a mistake?” Callie asked regretfully. “Could you tell me who paid?”
The waiter lowered his head apologetically, “I’m afraid that’s not possible.”
Mollie intervened to cover up the odd situation, “Forget it. Shouldn’t we be happy someone paid for us? Let’s go home.”
Albert offered, “I’ll have the driver take you home.”
Callie politely declined, “No need, we have a car.”
At that moment, Mollie’s gaze unexpectedly met someone coming out of the elevator.
She froze on the spot.
Not hearing Mollie’s voice, Callie also looked over in surprise and was equally shocked to see who Mollie was staring at.
-Bridger.
