(End Of Season 2)
Skyler’s POV
It’s amazing how our lives can change in the blink of an eye. It feels like a dream that I will never see her again. I will never wake up to see her beautiful smiles, smell her sweet scent, or hear her sweet voice. It should have been me who was buried instead of her; I promised to protect her but failed miserably, and now she is paying the price.
She couldn’t come back no matter how much I cried, screamed, or begged. She was in my arms yesterday, but she’s now just a figment of my imagination. Knowing she will never return hurts my heart, and when she died, she took half of me with her, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be the same again.
A hand squeezed my shoulder, jolting me back into my harsh reality. My gaze shifted away from her tombstone as unending tears cascaded down like a waterfall. Everyone was huddled together, either with their heads down or looking straight ahead. I nodded to Arcado as everyone began to leave, swallowing the lump in my throat.
“Mia Bella, why did you leave me?” My question remained unanswered in the air.
As I read the words over and over, my hands softly stroked her tombstone. Here it is, A devoted mother and a devoted lover. If she were here right now, she would chastise me for not being strong enough and would probably kick my ass for crying. She was someone who despised making others cry, which was one of the reasons I adored her. Life without her seemed agonizing.
I sighed and closed my eyes, looking up at the sky. It felt like she was still with me, sitting close by my side and resting her head on my chest, intently listening to my heartbeat and what I was saying. My hands ached to touch and hold her for even a fraction of a second, but knowing I couldn’t, they remained by my side.
“I’m missing you, Mia Bella,” My voice cracked, and I blinked away my tears.
“You know, I regret waiting now; I was waiting for the right time to do this, but fate wasn’t on our side.” I took the small red velvet box from my pocket and opened it, looking down at the small ring.
“Before I met you, Mia Bella, I thought love didn’t exist for men like me, that love made a man weak and vulnerable, but the second I saw you, I knew I was doomed. You came into my life like a whirlwind and made my heart beat just a little faster. At first, I didn’t know what I was feeling was love, but as we spent time together, I realized we had more than love. I wanted to wake up next to your beautiful smiles, intoxicating smell, and raise our little bundles of joy together, so what I’m saying is, even if you’re not here anymore, you’ll always have my heart in the palm of your hands.”
I gently placed the ring on her tombstone, watching it sparkle in the sunlight, and a small smile formed on my lips. Maybe it was her way of saying yes, but I knew she’d always be mine and I’d always be hers. I inhaled deeply, gripping the small velvet box, and my smile widened as the ring shone once more.
“You’ll always have my heart, Mia Bella, you’re it for me, and as long as I live, I promise you that I will raise Carl the way you’ve always wanted, with all of our love and protection, so you can rest easy, Mia Bella.”
I ran my fingers through my hair as I stared at the tombstone, trying to keep my tears at bay. Every day of my life, I thank God for allowing me to meet this incredible woman; she has made me a better person and has shown me what true love truly is. Even though she was no longer with us, her soul became one with mine.
She was one of the toughest people I knew; the world knocked her down so many times, but she always got back up, dusted herself off, and ruled the world like the queen she was. I was fortunate to be able to observe her as she conquered the world.
Scrunches of leaves were heard, so I turned my head in that direction. I stood up slowly as Chloe walked with tears streaming down her face. I comforted her by nodding and holding her hands while she looked down, her face contorted in pain.
When she found out about Amira’s death, she rushed here with Donald and sobbed until her tears dried. I expected her to blame me, but instead she said it wasn’t my fault, even though I knew it was. She would have been here if I hadn’t let her go that day, but she had to protect her son, which made me admire her even more.
“She’ll be fine,” She grimaced as she wiped her tears away.
I watched her walk towards the car while gently squeezing her hands. After all, they were like sisters, so I knew it was difficult for her. I took a deep breath and looked down, trying not to cry for her sake. Even if she wasn’t physically present, she would always be with me mentally, guiding me through this dark world.
“Until next time, Mia Bella.”
