SYNOPSIS:

Skyler’s POV
People refer to me as a heartless man. I killed so many people that it became second nature for me. I was a man who would do anything to protect his family, even if it meant taking a bullet for them; my sole purpose in life was to protect them at all costs.
But when I first saw her, my heart beat faster than it had in a long time….
Amira’s POV
In front of my eyes, my life was slowly crumbling to ashes. First, I lost my parents, and I was gradually losing myself in the healing process; my life had no meaning.
Until the first time I laid eyes on him…..

Amira’s POV
As I watched people lower their coffins to the ground, I was overwhelmed with emotion. As tears streamed down my bare face and I swallowed the bile in my throat, my entire body shook. They were both gone, leaving me in this world alone with no one to guide me. They were all I had, but they were suddenly gone, buried six feet underground.
Chloe was beside me, hugging me to her chest, her tears blurring her vision. All of our times and moments together flashed before my eyes, and I collapsed to the ground, overcome by the unexpected flashback. As I tried to get up and run to them, I let out an agonizing wail. I should have been the one who died, not them.
“No no, don’t bury them, please please don’t bury them,” I cried as I yanked on the person’s coat.
“Please, Mom and Dad, open your eyes and tell me you’re okay,” I pleaded.
“I’m sorry, Amira,” Donald said as he bent down and picked me up in bridal fashion.
My entire being sobbed as I saw the people now lowering the coffins and we stood frozen in place with solemn expressions. My mind refused to believe they weren’t anymore and burst out laughing as their faces flashed across my mind.
“Amira, come on,” Chloe said as Donald lowered me to the floor.
“They’re not gone, they can’t be gone,” I said to Chloe.
She drew me into a tight hug, her lips thinned. I kept whispering things I don’t even understand. The two people I had loved my entire life were now buried, and I had no idea what to do with my life. I used to go to them whenever I had a problem, but now I no longer have them.
“Let’s get you home,” Chloe said, pulling me to the car.
Apart from my parents, she was the only person who could understand me; I was a stubborn woman who didn’t give up easily, I didn’t care what people said, and she understood me without me having to tell her everything. Chloe was like a sister to me, and I couldn’t have been more grateful when she softly shut the car door and began to reverse out of the parking lot.
The car was silent, and as I rested my head against the window, my entire body relaxed and my mind wandered off to somewhere else. Now I don’t have a reason to live anymore, and my parents were the only people who kept me together, but I was so confused now.
“We’re here.” Chloe said as I looked up at what used to be a house full of happy memories.
Swallowing, I pushed open the door and stepped out. Chloe appeared at my side in an instant, and we both made our way towards the house. As a new set of tears began to fall, my vision became blurry. I took a deep breath and fished out my keys before unlocking the door.
As soon as the door was pulled open, I collapsed, unable to support my own weight, and burst into an ugly sob. The house appeared haunted and empty without them. Their sweet scent blended and lingered in the air, making it difficult for me to breathe.
Hearing footsteps shuffle closer to me, my head snapped up and met Chloe’s eyes. She knelt and took my arms in hers, pulling me up. My lips quivered as I drew her into a hug, and her scent hit me, soothing my mind.
“It’ll be fine.” Her fingers rubbed my back in a circular motion.
I drew my body away from hers, nodding, and wiped my tears. Sighing, I turned to face the kitchen, and a memory flashed before my eyes. My throat tightened as I imagined my parents cooking dinner and laughing at their own jokes.
My feet moved on their own and led me to the stove. I stared at it as tears streamed down my cheeks. Chloe stood by my side, cautiously watching my movements. My hands gripped the stove’s edge as I noticed my mother smiling at me through the window.
I must be going insane.
I shook my head, and the image vanished, leaving my mind blank. I blinked several times before raising my head and making eye contact with Chloe. She took my hand in hers and dragged me towards the stairs with a shaky smile.
“Get your stuff,” she said as she opened the door to my room.
Without further hesitation, I took out my luggage and began stuffing it with undergarments and clothes. We were both aware that if I stayed here, I’d be haunted by my parents’ memories and would probably go insane.
So she suggested moving to Italy, and I immediately agreed. I turned to Chloe as I was zipping up my suitcase, and she gave me a meek smile. I approached her, closed the door behind me, and we both went downstairs.
“Are you sure I won’t be a bother to you?” I inquired.
“You’re delusory if you think I’d leave you alone; we’re both in this together,” she said softly as she squeezed my hand.
“Thank you for being here,” I said gratefully.
“Always,” she said as she walked out of the house, leaving me behind.
As I sat in the car, I pondered how my life had taken such a tragic turn. We were a happy family who didn’t bother anyone; everyone knew my parents because they always helped and supported them even when they didn’t have money. But they were gone in the blink of an eye, leaving a trail behind them.
We arrived at the airport a few minutes later, and Donald greeted us. We all made our way to the finish line. I couldn’t believe it as my turn approached, I couldn’t shake the empty feeling I got when I handed the girl my passport. She stamped it and returned it, along with the ticket.
Sighing I waited for Donald and Chloe to finish theirs. We walked towards the plane after they were given their tickets, where a man took our tickets and directed us to our assigned seats.
So here’s a fresh start
