“That’s the CEO,” Indie whispered and I drew my eyes away from Aaron’s retreating form as he entered the elevator with the men.
It wasn’t a coincidence that Indie was having her interview at Aaron’s company. What the fuck?
“Yeah, that’s… ” I trailed off as she nudged me and instantly perked up, straightening in her seat.
“Okay. He’s staring at us,” she said and my heart skipped a beat as I shot a glance at the elevator. My eyes met with Aaron’s before the doors slid shut.
Wow.
Indie and I held conversations with the ladies sitting next to us, just to while away the time. A few minutes later, we were asked to vacate the reception and move to the floor upstairs.
As the candidates moved into the elevator, I hesitated.
I wasn’t here for an interview so following them around wasn’t exactly ideal.
“I’ll just hang around,” I whispered to Indie as she walked towards the elevator.
“Okay. Wish me luck,” she gave a short smile as she stepped into the car.
“Give me a call once you’re done,” I called after her as the doors slid shut. I sighed, tugging on the handle of my bag.
I looked around as I made my way towards the main floor. There were people everywhere, and they were quite busy.
I’d never imagined Aaron had this many employees. I mean, the man was literally providing for them. The thought of that tugged at a small part of my heart.
I was so lost in ogling the building and the people in it when I walked right into someone.
A file fell to the ground with a dull thud and papers scattered everywhere. I gasped as I bent down to pick up the papers.
“Oh my God. I’m so sorry,” I muttered, gathering the papers with the file and handing it over to whomever I’d walked into.
I held my breath as I stared into a pair of brown eyes. Chiseled jaw, brown eyes and full lips. The man in front of me was gorgeous.
I took a step back, reaching upwards to tug a strand of my hair behind my ear when I remembered I’d tied it into a ponytail.
He gave a small smile exposing the dimples in his cheeks. Oh goodness.
“It’s okay. I didn’t look where I was going, ” he said, grabbing the papers from my hands.
“I’m Denzel by the way,” he introduced himself. A sexy name, I must admit.
“I’m Joan,” I said, returning his smile and he shifted on his feet.
“Are you a new employee? I haven’t seen you around here,” he looked around and I shrugged.
“Well, I accompanied someone here for the interview, ” I muttered and he gave a nod, his brown eyes lighting up.
My phone pinged and I muttered an ‘excuse me’ before digging it out of my purse.
It was a text… from Aaron.
Mr. Big diiick: Meet me at my office
I gave Denzel a tight smile before clicking my phone off.
“That was…” my phone pinged again and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. What was it now? The man had an interview to attend to, for crying out loud.
Mr. Big diiick: Now, kitten. Tenth floor.
“That seems important, ” Denzel said and I gave an apologetic smile in return as I tugged on my bag handle again.
“Yeah, it is. Sorry, I have to go,” I said and he nodded as I brushed past him.
“Joan,” he called once I’d gotten a few metres away. I glanced at him from over my shoulders.
“I hope we run into each other again,” he said and I shook my head.
“I don’t think that would be happening again, brown eyes. I won’t be here for the second time,” I retorted, a little smile on my face before I continued my walk towards the elevator, pretty aware of his eyes boring into my back.
Well, I’d given him something to think about. Brown eyes weren’t exactly that subtle.
I got to the elevator and pressed the button for the tenth floor and the doors slid shut.
I stared at my reflection in the glass opposite me and tried fixing my hair and applied ChapStick on my lips. I had no idea why I decided to fix myself up, I wasn’t exactly looking forward to impressing Aaron.
But the girlish side of me wanted to try. There were a whole lot of good looking women here and who knows if he was hanging out with them.
My mood instantly sour at the thought, before I shook it off.
The elevator pinged and the doors opened as I walked into the hallway with fewer staff.
I walked towards the lady I assumed was his secretary.
“Hi,” I greeted and she looked up at me from her computer. God, she was beautiful. I instantly felt a pinch of jealousy.
“Hi, how may I help you?” She asked and I shifted uncomfortably. What? I should tell her I was here to see her boss? And that too without an appointment?
“Um, I’m here to… ”
The intercom buzzed and the woman immediately picked up. She said nothing and gave a curt nod before the call disconnected.
“Go in. His office is at the end of the hallway, ” she said and I pressed my lips together, before walking away.
Okay. Money and Power was the duo that ruled the world, no qualms.
I got to the last door and knocked, I had no idea if there was a response or not but I pushed the door open and walked in.
Aaron stood by the window with his back to me. Just like every one of his spaces, this one was filled with grey decor with exquisite taste.
He turned around, those whiskey eyes falling on me. He placed both his hands on his desk and the door clicked.
I glanced at it before raising a brow. He locked the door. Great.
“Called for me, Mr. Thompson, ” I said, my tone deceptively sweet. I placed my hand on my hips and he settled on his seat behind his desk.
“What are you doing here, kitten?” he asked and I sighed, making my way farther into the office before stopping in front of his desk.
“Aren’t you supposed to be hosting an interview? ” I shot back and he leaned into his seat, his eyes not leaving mine.
“That doesn’t necessarily answer my question,” he said and I nodded.
“Neither does it answer mine,” I leaned forward and his lips tugged up in a smile for a fleeting second before it disappeared.
I stared at his lips. I was slowly coming to terms with Aaron smiling but it doesn’t fail to make my heart trip whenever it makes an appearance.
“Well, I escorted my next door neighbor here. She was invited for the interview,” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“What are you doing here? I thought you interviewed the candidates yourself, ” I said and he shook his head.
“That’s the job of my COO,” he said and I pursed my lips.
We remained silent for a few seconds.
“Why did you ask me to come here?” I asked and he pushed his seat backwards.
“Come over here,” he ordered and I rolled my eyes, remaining in my position for a few seconds before I turned around and walked towards him.
He patted his desk and I arched a brow.
“Aaron…”
“Just sit and spread your legs, I want to have lunch,”
