“Is it really as serious as you say? Besides, if Franklin really messes with us, Isaac won’t just stand by,” Noah said nonchalantly.
“Fine, take my advice if you want, ignore it if you don’t,” Nick replied, frustrated that his words seemed to fall on deaf ears with his indifferent brother.
He stood up and left in anger. If they weren’t siblings, he wouldn’t bother with his foolish older brother.
“Hey, why are you leaving?” Noah called after his brother, who was storming off. “It’s a shame to waste all this food!”
Nick didn’t respond, leaving without looking back. Eat, eat, eat! Might as well eat himself to death!
It had rained all day yesterday, but finally stopped in the middle of the night.
The ground was still wet in the morning, but the sun had come out, and with the clear weather, people’s spirits lifted.
Sylvia sat in Clare’s car, squinting slightly at the bright sunlight outside the window.
“When we arrive, I’ll have an assistant prepare a uniform in your size,” Clare said as he drove. “Once you change into it, you’ll be all set.”
The Sky Division uniforms were white with shoulder epaulettes bearing three stars, giving a smart and dashing appearance.
Clare was already wearing his uniform, which complemented his striking looks, making him appear even more composed and handsome.
Soon, the car arrived at the Sky Division compound.
The Sky Division covered a vast area, with numerous planes parked on the lawn, creating an impressive sight.
In the distance, some Sky Division members were engaged in physical training on the field.
Seeing Clare arrive with a beautiful woman, everyone paused to look over.
“Director! Who’s the beauty?” A sweaty man approached Sylvia and Clare while wiping his forehead.
“My niece. She’ll be participating in this exercise,” Clare replied cheerfully and introduced Sylvia to him. “This is Deputy Director Colin.”
“Deputy Director Colin, nice to meet you.” Sylvia extended her hand, which Colin shook lightly before letting go. “Hello, I’m Colin. Welcome to Sky Division.”
“Everyone, come meet this beauty!” he called out to the others.
The Sky Division members warmly greeted Sylvia, and she got acquainted with them.
Many had heard of Sylvia’s reputation and looked at her curiously. “Such a beautiful lady-can you fly a plane? Our Sky Division is all about flying. Do you have a pilot’s license?”
Their skepticism was understandable; Sylvia was exceptionally beautiful, and female pilots were rare, especially in the rigorously selective Sky Division.
“So…”
“I’ve had my pilot’s license for a few years,” Sylvia nodded. “Though I haven’t flown much recently. There just haven’t been many opportunities.”
“You sound like you’re quite skilled,” Colin remarked after sizing her up. “Care for a little competition in the sky?”
Clare was also surprised. “Sylvia, you can fly?”
He had invited Sylvia to collaborate on strategy planning and hadn’t expected her to have a pilot’s license.
“Yes, a little,” Sylvia replied with a gentle smile. “Uncle, how about we have a match in the sky once the battle plan is finalized?”
“Oh!”
“Great!”
“Absolutely! Director, you must compete with Miss Andrews.”
“We’re all looking forward to it!”
Everyone cheered at Sylvia’s challenge, urging Clare to accept.
Clare laughed heartily. “Just don’t say I bullied you as your uncle.”
“This will be exciting! Mr. Hipps, give it your best!”
“I heard Miss Andrews is quite the all-rounder!”
“Haha, we’ll see.”
Everyone was eager with anticipation.
Sylvia smiled but said nothing more.
She spent half a day at Sky Division and had lunch at their aerial cafeteria.
Clare prepared a set of utensils for her. Everyone brought their own utensils to line up for food, reminiscent of collective life during school days.
After getting their meals, they sat in groups at the tables to eat.
Naturally, Sylvia sat with Colin and Clare.
Just as she picked up her chopsticks to taste the cafeteria food, a woman in a white uniform walked in. Noticing her three-inch heels, Sylvia raised an eyebrow discreetly.
Wearing high heels here?
The woman looked delicate and fragile, like a flower from a greenhouse.
Her long hair draped over her shoulders added to her gentle demeanor.
After getting her meal and finding no available seat due to arriving late, Colin waved her over. “Dr. Hamilton, over here.”
“She’s the department doctor. You know how it is-some of our guys get injured during training and need medical attention. She was transferred here last week,” Clare quietly explained to Sylvia.
Sylvia nodded. “I see.”
Mya walked over in her high heels and sat down at Clare and Sylvia’s table.
Only after sitting did she notice the exceptionally beautiful woman in the department.
She was momentarily stunned; she hadn’t expected to see another woman in this male-dominated place!
“And this is…”
“Oh, Sylvia. She’s my niece,” Clare introduced casually. “Dr. Hamilton, you should come earlier next time. The department is full of men like wolves; if you’re late, there won’t be any food or seats.”
“Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Hipps. I’ll do that next time,” Mya replied softly and began eating.
She ate very little and took tiny bites as if counting grains of rice.
Sylvia had already taken several bites by the time Mya swallowed her first mouthful.
“Dr. Hamilton, you’re eating too little,” Colin remarked loudly with his booming voice and rugged demeanor.
“I’m on a diet!” Mya replied gently. “I’m too fat; summer’s coming soon, and dresses won’t look good.”
“You’re fat?” Colin exclaimed in disbelief. “Your waist is so slim; if you’re fat, then I’m a pig.”
“The standards for men and women are different,” Mya laughed again. “Alright, I’m done eating.”
She put down her chopsticks and looked at Clare with a gentle smile. “Mr. Hipps, let me wash your dishes for you since I’m going to wash mine anyway.”
Clare declined outright. “No need; I appreciate your offer. I’ll be washing Sylvia’s dishes later.”
He turned to Sylvia with a smile that softened his previously stern expression.
Mya didn’t seem offended by the rejection and maintained her gentle smile. “Alright then, Deputy Director Colin, may I wash yours?”
Colin quickly shielded his bowl. “No need; let me help you instead.”
After some back-and-forth, Colin took Mya’s dishes to wash them together.
Mya felt her heart flutter at Clare’s warm smile directed at Sylvia.
Too bad he was married.
The charm of a mature man was unmatched by others.
She cast a jealous glance at Sylvia-what did this woman do to deserve Clare washing her dishes? Even knowing they were relatives didn’t ease her envy.
Without Sylvia around, she would be the only female here.
She had applied for this transfer to be pampered by the group.
Now Sylvia had come along.
How annoying.
As Clare prepared to take the washed utensils back to the office and dormitory with Sylvia when suddenly a man ran over in his uniform T-shirt shouting urgently to Mya, “Dr. Hamilton! Jakob is hurt! He’s just been taken to the infirmary.”
Upon hearing someone was injured, Mya quickly followed the man towards the infirmary. “What happened? Where is he hurt?”
“He fell while climbing to the top bunk in the dormitory and hit his foot and head; his forehead is bleeding,” the man explained urgently.
It sounded serious.
Clare handed the dishes to Sylvia. “You head back; I’ll check on him at the infirmary.”
Colin and others followed him towards the infirmary en masse.
Sylvia figured it was just a minor injury from falling and returned to her dormitory with the dishes.
Due to the exercise drill, they couldn’t leave Sky Division until it concluded.
In the infirmary, Jakob lay on the bed covered in blood, groaning occasionally with an expression of extreme pain.
His foot was swollen like a bun.
Mya entered the infirmary and saw Jakob’s sorry state; when she noticed his large feet, a flash of disgust crossed her eyes quickly.
Who knew if he had smelly feet? How gross.
“Let’s treat his forehead wound first; let me check if there are other injuries on his head.” She took iodine and gauze and sat beside Jakob to clean his blood while examining his wound.
When she saw the five-centimeter gash on Jakob’s forehead, she froze momentarily.
Such a long wound-it was no wonder there was so much blood.
“This long wound needs stitches; I’ll start suturing now.” Mya went to gather suturing tools and began disinfecting Jakob before preparing to stitch him up.
