“Don’t you think that’s a childish wish?” he joked, “Is it really possible to wish for not but your happiness, but for other’s happiness as well? Doesn’t that seem too tiring?”
“No, not for me at least,” I smiled, “Wishing for other’s happiness is a good thing. It makes you feel like a person, a genuine one. So, it’s good.”
“A genuine person?”
My phone started ringing suddenly. I took it out to see the name on the screen. It was from my Mom.
“Excuse me a bit,” I walked away from his side in a corner. “Hello, Mom?”
“Aileen, what’s this request for bringing a boy over to the house? I didn’t sign up for this, did I?”
“Oh, you saw it?”
“Yeah, you sent me a big paragraph explaining this. Don’t tell me you sent this one to Dave as well. What are you even thinking?”
“Well, no. I didn’t send that to him. I want you to handle the situation if it calls for it so I thought I’d let you know in advance. And I didn’t sign up for this as well. It somehow ended up that way. Just deal with it a bit.”
“Deal with it? Do you want me to deal with Dave again? Why do you tell me to clean up your mess? Is that fun?”
“I’m not doing it for fun either. Try to realize my situation. And he’s only coming over for games. I couldn’t refuse when he said this himself, could I?” I whispered trying to keep my voice low as much as possible.
“But, you could just refuse him straight away.”
“Come on, my dad is the Alpha. If I don’t allow him to come, won’t he think that we are stingy or something? I can’t allow that to happen, can I? I only did what I deemed fit in that situation. Don’t blame me.”
“Butfine. Unless he’s staying till late at night I don’t see a problem in him coming. It’s Dave who has a problem with almost anything and anyone. That’s what I’m worried about the most.”
“It’s okay, we can handle him, You just need to support me. That’s all.”
“I support you, my daughter. Your friend is coming over tomorrow right?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Okay, we can discuss the rest at home. Are you still at Marshall’s house?”
“Yeah, I’m leaving in a bit.”
“Alright, come back fast. I’m at home, if Daves comes back before you, you can guess the questions.”
Yeah, even from so many miles away.
“Alright, I’m heading out. See you at home, love ya.”
“Love you too, come home safe.”
I ended the call and Marshall came behind me, “Uh, whose call was that? From your mom?”
I turned to him and nodded, “Yeah, told me to come back home. So, I’m heading out. See you…. see you soon.”
“Okay,” he smiled finally, “Goodnight and take care.”
“Sure.”
He went to see me at the door and I called a cab and got in.
I arrived home half an hour later. Arriving home, I walked past the living room and a voice made me stop in my tracks.
“Aren’t you a bit early to return home? What are the curfew hours?”
It was Dave. I slowly turned my head and saw him sitting with a magazine in hand.
He already came before me? How?
“Curfew hours? I didn’t know there were any,” I stuttered.
He placed down the magazine gently and got up to walk over to my side. I backed away as much as I could.
“Yeah, I might not have set any strong curfew hours. But, that doesn’t mean anyone can come and go into this house anytime as they please, can they?” he asked, towering over me with his tall height.
“Uh…. I can’t?”
“No!” he declined in my face.
“What?”
“You said you were going to Marshall’s house and would be a bit late. But, that doesn’t mean…. you can be this late. And why do you need to go to his house so often anyway? What were you even doing in there? Did he call you over?”
“Huh? No! He only wanted to drop me off at my house but I wanted to go to his house. It was my idea all along!”
His eyes raised in suspicion upon hearing this statement.
“Hm, your idea? So, what were you doing in his house? Can I know?”
“Well….” Why does he want to know that?
“I…. I was”
“Aileen, are you back already?” Mom’s voice drew our attention.
She walked over to our side and glanced at both of our faces.
“Uh, is everything alright? Why do the both of you look so grim?”
This is my chance.
“Mom!” I called, grabbing her by the hand, “I’m so hungry I could faint any moment. Do you think you can feed me something? Or did you two eat already?”
“Uh, no. We were waiting for you. Dave only had a cup of coffee after coming home from work. Does that count?” mom replied.
