“I want to talk to you, please open the door. It won’t be for too long. Just let me see your face. That’ll be all.”
“Why do you want to see me? I don’t want to apologize to you. So, keep dreaming.”
“I’m not telling you to apologize to me. Just open the door, I beg you.”
“I won’t open the door to strangers. Tell me who you are first.”
I cleared my throat, “Ahem, I’m Aileen McGarten, nice to meet you, Becky.”
“Aileen Mcgarten? Why do you have the same surname as the Alpha Uncle David?” she sounded a bit puzzled even though I couldn’t see her face.
“That’s because I’m his daughter, Aileen. He’s my dad now.”
“Huh? What? You have to be lying, right? Tell me you are!”
“No, I’m not. I can even verify it.”
“But, I only heard about his wife before, I never heard he also had a daughter around my age. Where had you been all this time?”
“Uh….. I recently moved in with them. That’s why you never heard of me before. I don’t blame you.”
She paused for a second before saying, “Then, you aren’t my brother’s girlfriend but David’s uncle’s daughter? Like my cousin’s sister? But, step one?”
“Uh-huh, that sums up to it. I wanted to tell this you. But, you got angry and rushed out of there. I’m sorry I came here without informing you. Forgive me. And please open the door.”
“Why are you apologizing? I’m the one who yelled out at you. Are you making fun of me?”
“What? No, no, that’s not my intention. I just want you to open the door and face me that’s all.”
“But, why? What do you want?”
“To see you. That’s all.”
The room fell silent again. I thought she wasn’t going to listen but in the end, she ended up listening and opened the door for me.
She stood at the doorway, with a shy expression.
“What do you want?”
“Here,” I held out the bag of food to her.
“What’s this?” she frowned.
“I heard from your brother and brought you sweet and sour chicken wings. They are still so please eat them before it gets cold, okay?”
“Chicken wings?” Her eyes lit up the very second hearing that. But she composed herself and glared at me.
“Are you trying to bribe me with food? Why? You can’t win over me that easily.”
“I’m not trying to bribe you. Nor is that going to help me in any way. Don’t you think?”
“Uh…I don’t know. It might be your plan to keep me under your control. Just to be clear, I’m not that easy to bribe, alright?”
“Uh…” she’s so troublesome, unlike her brother.
“Yes, I understand that. Now, please take the food. That’ll be great.”
She looked at me, then glanced at the food and reached out her hand to take them.
“I’m only taking them cause I don’t want to waste them,” she murmured.
“Yes, I understand.”
“And I haven’t forgiven you yet, keep that in mind. You can leave now,” she said before closing the door on my face.
She’s such a pain in the ass to deal with. How’s he keeping up with her every day?
“Um, thanks for accepting the wings. I’m going now.” I yelled before turning away to leave.
While I walked away, I could hear the sound of the door opening.
I didn’t look back but she probably opened the door to see me.
At least I managed to make a good impression for now. I can think about the next stage later.
Downstairs I saw Marshall asleep on the couch. He was sleeping so soundly as well.
When did he fall asleep? Should I wake him up? But, I also have to get back home. Should I call the driver to pick me up?
Will it be alright to leave without letting him know? No, that doesn’t sound good either.
I’ll just wait for him to wake up on his own for a bit. Yeah.
I sat beside him and took out my phone. There was no message from Dave yet. Guess he’s busy again today.
Skylar sent me the pictures of the games and the gaming consoles he’s bringing tomorrow.
Someone’s excited, isn’t he?
But, by the way, things are, it won’t be easy to make her leave home. I have to come to his home several times this week after college. It’s the only way out.
I waited 20 minutes but he wasn’t waking up. So, I decided to call him after all.
“Um, Marshall, wake up,” I called, jerking him. “Can you hear me? Hey!”
He propped open his eyes slowly, looking at me in confusion.
“Thank god you are awake. You weren’t waking up on your own so I took the matter in my hands. I’m sorry for disturbing your sleep. But, I couldn’t leave without telling you. So, I stayed behind.”
“Oh, I fell asleep? I didn’t even realize,” he murmured.
“You must’ve been tired, It’s normal. I also take small naps after college sometimes,” I replied, laughing.
“It’s normal huh?”
