We chatted a bit during the car ride and arrived home within a few minutes.
“Thanks for the ride,” I said getting out of the car.
“See you tomorrow at the party,” he said, looking out the window.
“Yeah.”
“I have to arrive at the venue first, or else I would’ve gone with you and the Alpha,” he said.
“I see. By the way, is Becky coming?”
He shook his head, “Nah, I told you she’s not that outgoing. But, you don’t need to feel bad about it. You all will be there, that makes me happy.”
“You are so optimistic,” I chuckled. “Anyway, you head back it’s late.”
He checked his watch. “You are right. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Heading back inside, I saw Dave sitting in the living room. He was reading a book hardly paying any attention to his surroundings.
So, I approached him very sneakily and eventually walked up behind him without his knowing.
I was about to reach out my hands to cover his eyes but suddenly became alarmed by his voice.
“I know you are behind me.”
What? How did he notice me?
He closed his book and turned around to face me.
“Did you think you could sneak up on me so easily just because I had let my guard down?” he remarks, smiling.
“I thought I could guess I was wrong.”
He glanced down at the bags in my hands. “So, you went shopping after all? What did you buy? Let me see.”
“No! Not right now!” I backed away the very instant, hiding the bags behind me.
He became puzzled. “Why? Why can’t I see them right now?”
“Cause….. yeah, I want to surprise you with my look for the party. That’s why, yeah. You have to wait till tomorrow.”
“What? I can’t wait till tomorrow. Just let me take a sneak peek that’s all!”
“No! Not even a single glance. Have some patience and wait till tomorrow. It’s going to be fun.”
He sighed in defeat. “Fine, you win. I can’t wait to see how you look tomorrow.”
“That’s how it’s supposed to be!”
“So, why are you home so late?” he asked, checking on his watch. “Do you know what time is it? It’s way past the curfew hours.”
“Uh…. yeah. I was so immersed talking with Marshall that I lost track of time, Sorry.”
“Marshall? He was with you?” he inquired.
“Um, yeah. We bumped into each other while shopping and he helped me pick shoes and necklace.”
“Oh, I see….” He seemed to look a bit sad to hear that.
“Why is anything wrong with it? You don’t like him shopping with me?” I asked.
“No, that’s not it. It’s just….” he lowered his eyes. “If I knew you needed a partner to shop with, I would’ve gone with you in the first place. I feel bad for the missed opportunity.”Is he actually admitting that he’s jealous of Marshall? Wow, isn’t that a great change in him? Before he never admitted about his jealousy because of his ego.
He’s really changing huh? That’s great.
“It’s okay, you can come to shop with me again,” I replied, reaching out my hand to caress his face.
“I’m not a little boy you are trying to soothe,” He replied, removing my hand. “You must be hungry. Go and freshen up. I’ll heat the food for both of us.”
“You haven’t eaten yet?”
“No, I was waiting for you to come. Your Mom isn’t back yet either, so I was killing time while waiting.”
“I see….” Even though I tell him not to do it. He still does the same. And I do the same for him when he’s late.
Guess, none of us are learning our lessons very soon.
“Alright, I’ll come back in 10 minutes. Wait for me.”
He nods with a smile.
While eating, I talked about how Skylar and Rosalia helped me to pick the dress. At first, he didn’t like hearing about Skylar but as Rosalia was with me, he didn’t show any reaction.
He listened to my words very carefully while eating. Mom isn’t with us all the time when I need her, but his presence is enough to make me feel at home.
I’m thankful for him to be there for me listening to my nonsense.
“Hey, are you going to work tomorrow by the way?” I asked, gulping down the water.
“Yeah, of course. I’ll come back early to head to the party. And you must be ready by that time with your Mom as well.”
“Okay. But, can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, sure. Why are you being so formal?”
“No, I mean…. it’s just……. tomorrow we are going to meet your dad and mom right?”
“Yes, so?”
“I…haven’t met them before, so can I know what kind of people they are? I mean, how should I act before them? Should I be mindful, cautious, or respectful? I’m a bit puzzled about this.”
