Chapter 46

Aileen
Friends? Friends with Skylar? Did he really want to be my friend all along? Or is this another one of his tricks to get closer to me?
But…. after seeing how he fought against those girls in the afternoon, my image of him has changed slightly.
He doesn’t seem that bad at all. Let’s take the risk, I’ll see how it goes.
“If you insist so much, then it’s okay. Let’s be friends,” I said, holding out my hand with a smile.
“Great! Thank you, Aileen,” he shook my hand, beaming a smile.
Life’s too boring to stay in my comfort zone. You have to be daring sometimes.
“Well, now that we are friends, will you share your lunch with me? It looks delicious! I’ve been wanting to say this for a while,” he said, looking down at my lunch box.
“You don’t have to ask, gladly.”
After the lunch break, I headed towards the different classrooms carrying the forms the teacher told me to distribute.
On my way, I spotted the boy I saw with Rosalia. And that wasn’t all, he was with a different girl. And that girl was latching onto his arm while chatting happily.
She looked quite plain complained to Rosalia. But, why is he hanging out with her when he has her? Is he cheating? Does she know about it?
But, how’s the professor related to all of this? The way she ran out after he said something to her, looked quite suspicious.
Oh god, everything is so confusing! Everything seems like a riddle around me.
My brain is starting to hurt trying to figure out the puzzle. I should better leave instead of poking my nose into the affair. Yeah.
I was about to stride past them, but then Rosalia’s face appeared in my mind.
But, we are friends after all. Should I really let her get cheated on even though I’ve seen everything? That feels quite wrong! I’m a bad friend!
I should do something, but I don’t know what. Should I confront them and ask why he’s doing this? But, I don’t even know his name.
Wouldn’t it look weird if I accused him even though I don’t know what’s even their relationship is in the first place? Of course, it would!
I think I should leave. That’s better.
“Do you need any help?” a voice called drawing my attention. I glanced over my shoulder to see the Principal standing.
“You? Uh…oh. No, it’s okay.”
“Are you sure? Where are you bringing them to?”
“Uh, to the staff room. Then get them stamped and go to the 3rd floor to distribute them.”
“I see…. well, good luck then.”
“Thanks for asking.”
“You are welcome.” He walked away that instant and I parted my ways.
What’s the mystery surrounding The Principal, Rosalia, and that boy?
Today the Teacher spoke about the mid-term exams which will be held after 3 months. So, we should start preparing for them in time.
During the class I saw that Skylar was laughing with the boys in the back, ignoring what the teacher said.
Does he not want to pass the exams? Why’s he not listening to the teacher?
He’s the popular boy in college, but is he bad in his studies or something? That’ll be very funny if that turns out that way.
Evening came, and college was over. I texted Dave 2 hours ago and he hadn’t replied to my text yet. So, I decided to call him.
But he didn’t answer. So, I called him twice. In the middle of it, I received a call from Marshall.
I picked up right away. “Hi, what’s up?”
“Is college over?”
“Uh-huh, why?”
“I’m heading over to pick you up, that’s why. Will reach in 10 minutes.”
“What? You are coming? Why? Isn’t Da”
“The Alpha can’t come today. That’s why he told me to pick you up in his place.”
“Oh…I see…”
But, he didn’t tell me anything about it. Why?
Guess I’ll ask Marshall. There must be a serious reason behind it.
“Anyway, see you in a while. Bye.”
“Uh, hm. Bye.”
While waiting I saw Skylar leaving with his friends following behind him.
Seeing me, he stopped in his tracks and walked over to my side.
“Aileen, didn’t you go home yet?”
“Uh, no. Waiting for the car to arrive.”
“I see. Should I wait with you? I don’t mind you know?”
“Um, no. I don’t know how long that is going to take. And you have friends with you. Don’t make them wait, get going.”
“Uh, okay then. See you tomorrow.”
“We don’t have classes tomorrow,” I mentioned.
“We don’t? I forgot about it,” he joked. “Anyway, bye then. Go home safely.”
“You too.”
He gave a little wave before walking away with his friends. And I bet they were talking about me, cause some of his friends glanced at me before walking away towards the main road.
Were they discussing about how rude and weird I am for not interacting with anyone in my class?
I bet they think I’m snobbish.
“Your identity doesn’t defy what other people think of you,” Kiki my wolf replied. “Your identity is what makes you who you are. And right now, your mate is the Alpha, the top of the rank. That’s all you should care about. When everything will be official, they’ll learn to respect you.”
Do you think I want to use my authority to make people come to like me?
“Why, is there anything wrong with it?”
Of course, there is! Are you even serious? I’m not the type of person who would make people bow down in front of me because of my rank and power.
She sighs in response. “Why do you have to be so naive? I simply don’t get you sometimes. If you have the power, why not make use of it fully? It’s a waste unless isn’t it?”
I don’t get you as well. Why are you sounding like a dictator suddenly? Have you always been like this?
“Sometimes you need to even act like a dictator if that’s to ensure your survival. Tough times make people make tough decisions. It’s as simple as that.”
Times aren’t as tough as you are making it sound
“Sorry to make you wait,” Marshall’s voice brought me back to reality.
He was in his car and parked right in front of me. Then waved at me with a smile, “Get in!”
I quickly went inside the car and he started driving.
“You have to deal with me no matter what happens, huh?” I comment, staring at him.
“Why are you saying like that’s a bad thing?” he chuckled. “I love running errands, and when it’s related to you all the more.”
“Dave is using you very well. So, what is he up to today?”
“Uh…. said he’s going to a party. It’s going to be an alliance with his Dad’s company. He was leaving in 10 minutes so, didn’t have that much time in hand to explain everything that much.”
Alliance with his dad’s company? But, he didn’t tell me about that before.
“Did he know about it only today? Cause he did say he would pick me up from college,” I inquired.
“Uh…that I don’t know. You need to ask him about it. But, even if you do I don’t think he’s going to talk about it with you.”
“Why?”
“Don’t you know? His relationship with his dad is not good. He literally hates him to the core.”
The principal told me about it. Now, I remember. Yeah, he hates his dad.
“But, if he hates him, why is he going to have an alliance with him? Doesn’t that sound weird?”
“It does but…. what can we do here? The Master is very stubborn. He’s practically a tyrant who doesn’t listen to anyone. That’s why Alpha doesn’t like to get on his bad side because he’s practically tolerating him.”
“I see….”
His dad sounds quite bad. Is he worse than my dad? Or is he a scum as well? Why are all the dads in the world like this?
“Did he go alone? Why didn’t he bring you with him?”
“I don’t know, his wish. Anyway, do you have time?”
“Why? You wanna go eat somewhere again?” I joked.
“Hm, yeah. But, at my house. Do you wanna come over?” he asked with a puppy face.
It took me a minute to process what he said.
Come over? He’s telling me to go to his house? To eat?
“Well, isn’t that too sudden?” I stuttered. I haven’t been over to a stranger’s house in years. The last time I went to get my books back from my friend’s house in junior high their dog bit me. And the social anxiety I have now is enough to kill me.
There’s no way I can go to his house.
“Too sudden? Why is anything wrong with it?” he asked. “I was planning to do some grocery shopping initially then go home and cook together. You don’t like that idea?”
“Cook together?”
“Yeah, you don’t like it?”
That’s….. um…. it doesn’t sound that bad.
“Won’t you sister be there?”
“No, she has gone over to our aunt’s house for a few days. And will be back next week. So, the house is empty.”
“Oh….”
Then, it’ll be only the two of us? Guess I can manage. I don’t have to talk with his sister yet. That’s a relief.
“Well, alright then. I don’t mind,” I replied.
“Great, let’s find the nearest supermarket to my home.” He looked quite happy at my response.
“I’ll let my Mom know that I’ll be back a bit later.”
“Yeah, sure. Or else, she’ll start worrying. Tell her I’ll drop you at home safely. You’re in good hands.”
“Of course I am.”
I called Mom and she told me to just get back home on time and have fun. She sounded a bit mysterious as well for no reason.
