“Bye, see you at home,” Dave said, from inside the car as I got out.
“Yeah, see you as well,” I replied.
He smiled and gave a little wave before driving out of there.
I started heading towards my classroom in a good mood. Out of nowhere, I bumped into a chest when I turned the corner.
“Ah, sorry” I looked up to find Skylar in front of me. And he had a frown on his face.
“It’s you. Can’t you see where you are going? I was going to fall down because of you,” I added, clutching onto my bag straps tightly.
“You have eyes as well. You should see where you are going,” he replied in a whimsical tone. “Don’t blame me. You were the one who bumped into me in the first place.”
“Really now?” After causing so much misunderstanding between us he has the nerve to say I bumped into him when he obviously came from the opposite direction.
“Yeah, you don’t believe me?” he inquired, stepping forward.
I don’t think it’s worth the time to argue with him. I should let it slide.
“You know what?” I looked at him with a smile. “it’s okay. Have a great day ahead. Bye.”
I glided past from his side skillfully and entered my classroom.
A few minutes pass by and the teacher arrives, but I don’t see Rosalia enter the classroom. Where is she at?
I texted her when the class started but there was no response.
Two classes later, I went out to get a drink and saw someone like her walking around with a guy beside her.
Is that….. who do I think it is? Should I call her? But, I don’t know if that’s her yet. Let’s see.
I followed her sneakily and managed to see her face. It was Rosalia all along. Why is she out hanging out with a boy without attending classes?
Who’s this lucky boy? They were talking among themselves in the empty backyard. And the guy she was talking with looked a bit cute as well. He was decent.
Five minutes later I thought to myself why am I following them in the first place? I feel like a stalker. I have no business with her, do I?
I should go. I turned away to leave but then I heard a familiar voice in the distance.
I turned around to see The principal coming from the opposite direction. Why is he here? He approached them and seeing him, both of them were alarmed.
He stood in front of them, and seeing him Rosalia’s face goes a bit pale. She glanced at the boy beside him nervously.
Just what the hell is going on here? Is the Principal scolding her? But. Why? Did she do anything wrong? But, what?
Didn’t I see her walking together with the principal yesterday as well? Does this have any connection?
I stood there for a few more minutes and noticed how Rosalia’s face was starting to look sad and depressed with each passing minute.
And the Principal looked a bit angry while talking with her. The second guy remained calm and silent. I’m dying to know what’s going on in there.
A few seconds later, Rosalia ran out of there in tears and the Principal watched her go. The second guy followed behind her.
What did he say to her? She looked upset.
The principal face-palmed himself, looking a bit distraught.
I quickly left from the spot heading for the next class. That day I didn’t see Rosalia in any of the classes. During lunch break, I went to grab something from the cafeteria and saw the mean girls lined up together at the entrance talking and laughing.
Seeing them, I decided to leave. But, something happens.
“Hey, you are blocking the entrance, get lost,” a voice yelled.
I glanced behind me to see Skylar standing in front of those girls. They seemed offended by his comment.
“Huh, are you talking to us?” the one with a ponytail asked.
“Who else is standing in front of the cafeteria entrance? I don’t see anyone beside you all,” he retorted, putting his hands in his pockets.
“But, you can’t tell us to get lost. That’s rude!” the second one in heels retorted.
“Oh, it is? I didn’t know that,” he beamed a fake smile. “Anyway, just move. Or I might have to force you to move physically.”
The two girls looked at the third and the third girl stepped forward with a serious look.
“So, now you want to touch us, huh? Should I let Rosalia know about it?” she added, pointing in his direction.
He rolled his eyes with a smirk. “You wanna let Lia know about it? Let it be so. I don’t care. She’s my past anyway.”
“You wanna throw her off like that just because of that arrogant Alpha’s daughter?” the second one snapped. “You’ve really stepped low, Sky!”
He has to listen to taunts because of me. Why doesn’t he tell them that nothing is going on between us?
And why’s he arguing with them anyway?
“So, what if I threw her off? It’s my fucking business what I do with her or not,” Skylar retorted. “Who are you to tell me?”
“That girl is no good. She’s arrogant and looks down upon others. You are ruining your image by hanging out with her,” the first girl stated bitterly. “Rosalia is the one you need. You two suit each other so much.”
“Yeah, they do.” The other two supported.
By then, everyone inside the cafeteria was listening to their conversation and watching the show take place.
“Even if we do suit each other, we definitely don’t think the same. So, we can’t be together,” Skylar replied. “Anyway, just clear the door. I don’t want to talk further about this.”
“You’re really stupid!” one of them yelled in his face. “Let’s go girls.”
“Seriously.”
They walked out and saw me standing not so far from there. They glanced up and down at me and sneered in mockery.
Then went past me murmuring something which I didn’t understand. But, probably some bad words.
They really hate me. And Skylar is facing the same hate because of me.
Can’t I do anything to change this?
I went back to the classroom which was mostly empty during lunch hours and sat there munching on my food by myself.
A drink appeared on my desk out of nowhere.
I looked up and saw Skylar standing in front of my desk.
“You?”
He brought some juice to drink. And it’s the same flavor and brand that I’ve been buying from the cafeteria lately. How does he know that?
“Not offering me to sit? Guess, I’ll make myself at home,” He added, sitting down in front of me.
“Thanks for the drink, but may I know your intentions behind it?” I asked, taking the juice in my hands. “And how do you know which flavor I drink so precisely? Are you stalking me?”
He looked at me with a stoic expression, resting his face against his palm. “Stalk you? Why would I go to such an extent for you? I saw you drinking it two days ago and saw you drinking it yesterday as well. So, I assumed you liked it. There’s no need to stalk someone to know their favorite drink, do I?”
Uh, that’s true. I was complicating things too much. But, I can’t help it. He’s always up to no good. Of course, I would think he has something planned behind this gesture.
“You overthink a lot, don’t you?” he added, taking a piece of nuggets from my lunch box.
He’s absolutely right!
“Hey, who told you, you can eat from my lunch like that? I didn’t permit you!”
He didn’t seem to care too much about my warning though. Cause he continued to chew on it, shrugging it off.
The audacity of this guy!
“Permission? Do friends need permission to eat from their friend’s meal? I thought friends always shared things?” he questioned, folding his arms.
“Hey, you are calling yourself my friend now also? Since when did we become friends?” I retorted, unable to control my anger.
“Since the day, I defended you in front of those mean girls and Rosalie we became friends,” he winked with a smile.
Does he really think I’m going to be swooned over by his wink? Or fall for his charm? Nope, that’s not happening.
“Well, I’m very much grateful that you defended me in front of them. And I’m thankful for it. But, I really don’t like the harassment that you put me”
“But, if you think about it, we became friends ever since you started feeling comfortable enough to argue with me,” he added, laughing. “Maybe we were meant to be friends long ago. Don’t you think so?”
I…. started to feel comfortable arguing with him. When…did that happen?
“Your face says you didn’t realize it yourself, did you?”
I lowered my gaze. “Well….. I was a bit surprised that’s all.”
“I’ve noticed it. You aren’t that comfortable around others that much. There are only a few people you are comfortable to be around with. And that is, the people you spend most time with, and talk with, right?”
I nodded. I hate to admit it, but he’s right. And even a stranger like him found out what I’m like in a few days of talking. I’m no good.
“But, I’m really glad to hear that you feel comfortable around me. It makes me kind of happy. Cause, you might be struggling to fit in where you don’t belong. And that feels sad as well. I want to be your companion in this strange place where you have to survive for 4 years. Do you want that?” he asked, holding out his hand towards me. “I’m asking genuinely.”
