“Yes, it sums up to that,” I replied, glancing down at Aileen, who stood beside me. “By the way, Aileen. Why were you in such a hurry to leave the college? Do you have plans, I assume?”
Aileen’s face went pale the very minute when I asked that.
“What? Uh…. no…. I didn’t have any…..”
“You had plans Aileen?” her friend inquired. “I don’t remember you telling me about it.”
She clenched her fists nervously and lowered her head. “Uh, well…. I wasn’t particularly…..”
“It’s okay, you don’t need to tell me about it,” I replied. “Everybody has things they can’t tell anyone about. Anyway, I think we are getting late to head home. Will you get in the car please, Aileen?”
She glared at me, and adverted her gaze the very minute, walking over to her friend’s side.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then. Bye.”
“See you as well. Call me when you reach home we can talk then.” her friend gave her a quick hug before they parted ways.
Aileen came over to my side and went to sit inside the car. And I also followed after her. She was sitting at the back, unfortunately, with a grumpy expression on her face. Maybe, she’s not happy to go home with me. Why? Did she expect Marshall to come in my place? Is he my replacement now?
“Hurry up and get the car moving,” Aileen grunted, folding her arms. “Or else, I might go back home on foot.”
I put on my seatbelt and turned on the car. “No, you don’t need to do that.”
When I started driving I kept thinking about how I could fix this situation which I’ve managed to create since yesterday.
I checked the front mirror, she was absent-mindedly looking out the window. She’s not spoken with me properly since yesterday.
Well, what can I expect when I ignored all her texts and calls yesterday? And when I saw that it was after she left with Marshall in a hurry.
I’m so disappointed in myself. How could I hurt her like that? And here I call myself her father when I’ve failed my duties so poorly.
I’m really no good.
“Come on, don’t blame yourself so much,” Aaron my wolf consoled me. “Your phone wasn’t with you, it was with your wife. So, it’s not your fault entirely. Alright?”
This is your first time consoling me so honestly. Am I that depressed?
“Yeah, you are. It’s easy to tell. And your girl is mad. That’s why I feel a bit bad for you.”
Really? You think about me so much?
“To be honest, nah! I’m just thinking you aren’t getting lucky tonight. That’s what I’m disappointed about the most.”
What? You have to be kidding me! You are thinking about sex at this time? Do you even understand the situation I’m in? She looks like she’s going to unalive if given the chance let alone make love to me.
“Haha! That’s funny. I guess you do have some humor left in you after all. Don’t you? I thought you were becoming boring with time.”
This isn’t a laughing matter, is it?
“Hm, maybe not for you, but for me. Anyway, enjoy your suffering. Bye!”
Where the hell are you going leaving me in trouble?
“Taking a nap.”
He’s not useful in situations like this. Why was I counting on him anyway?
Taking a deep breath I kept my composure in check. Guess, I need to take the matter into my hands now.
“Would you like to go somewhere on the way before heading home?” I asked, intently.
She turned around to look at my back with a confused look.
“Go where?”
“Uh, somewhere we can sit down together and have a talk. Like a cafe or restaurant?”
Suddenly, her expression changed and she leaned against her seat and replied, “No, I want to go home straight. I have nothing to talk about with you.”
She’s so stubborn.
“Maybe you don’t but, I want to talk with you.”
“What do you even talk about?” she yelled. “There’s nothing to talk about between us. Pretend as if I’m invisible like you’ve been doing since yesterday. It’s easier for both of us that way.”
“And that’s the reason I want to talk. There’s some kind of a big misunderstanding going on between the two of us.” I replied calmly.
“Misunderstanding?” she frowned. “I understand everything clearly. There’s no misunderstanding.”
“There is!” I retorted. “And that’s why we need to talk. If you don’t want to go anywhere, that’s fine. We can talk in the car. Let me find a place to park first.”
“No, you don’t!” she snapped. “We are going straight home. And if you don’t want to listen to me, I’m going to step out of the car while it’s moving.”
I stepped on the break accidentally, halting the car in the middle of the highway.
“You can’t be fucking serious!” I snapped, taking off my seatbelt to turn around to look at her. “I’ve been listening to your nonsense nonstop and didn’t say a word till now. But, now you want to jump out of the moving car. Just how much angry are you at me? How much more will it take for you to take out your anger?”
She looked surprised by my response. Her gaze lowered and she clenched her fists tightly.
The atmosphere surrounding us became tense as she didn’t utter a word afterward.
I sighed and rested my head against my seat. I should’ve been a bit nicer to her. She won’t understand me like this.
“I understand you are upset. I have read all of your unread texts and checked the missed calls,” I paused for a second before continuing, “I’m sorry for my actions. I didn’t mean to hurt you like that. Forgive”
“I’ll go back home on my own,” she interrupted, heading out of the car the very instant.
I looked outside to see her walking away at a fast speed.
What? What is she playing at now? I tried to go after her, but chasing her on foot didn’t seem useful.
I turned on the car and drove up to her side.
“Aileen, what are you doing? Get inside the car!” I yelled from inside.
“No, I can’t. You can go home on your own,” she added bitterly without even looking in my direction.
“I can’t go home without bringing you with me. Now, get in the car. It’s going to take at least an hour if you walk on foot. And it’s getting dark also. Do you really want to risk your safety all because you are mad?”
She ignored all my words and continued to walk at a fast speed. Why the hell is she stubborn? I’m saying this for her own good.
“Aileen, I’m really sorry for my actions. Please, listen to me and get in the car. It looks as if I’m stalking you like this. Please!” I begged, trying to gain her sympathy in any way possible.
“If you are so much concerned with your image, then stop stalking me!” she stated, before crossing the road to go over to the other side.
What the heck did that mean?
I followed behind her and was about to cross the road but the traffic got in my way.
When the road was clear again, I saw her getting inside a car.
Whose car is that? And why is she getting in a stranger’s car?
I need to see who it is.
I followed the car and checked the number plate. Only to realize it was Marshall’s car.
What is Marshall doing here? And how did he even know she was here in the first place?
Don’t tell me she called him to come and he came here dropping all the business at hand?
This is getting out of hand now. Marshall is getting in our way every time.
While driving, I pulled out my phone and dialed his number with one hand.
But, he declined my call. And soon, I received a text instead.
“He’s not going to pick up your call. Stop disturbing us.”
My eyes widened in surprise. What nonsense is this? Does Aileen have his phone now? No wonder she declined my call.
But, I’m not going to back down so easily.
I dialed his number and left a voice note. “If you don’t pick up my call and stop the car, I can’t guarantee whether you’ll be able to enter the office tomorrow. The choice is yours. Do you want to risk your job for the sake of her stupid play? I know you are more sensible than that.”
A few moments later, the car stopped. I knew Marshall had no choice other than to listen to me. He’s my Beta after all. He can’t disobey the Alpha.
Learned the hard way, it is?
But, in a split second, the car picked up the pace and drove off somewhere in the blink of an eye. And I lost track of them.
Seriously? He really did that to me? My threat didn’t seem to have any effect on him after all.
Putting down the phone, I searched for them everywhere. And yet twenty minutes had passed but I couldn’t find them anywhere.
Where did they disappear off to like that? This is not the way to the packhouse. Are they going somewhere in secret?
Damn it! Aileen, what are you doing behind my back?
I parked my car and tried to call Aileen. She didn’t answer so I kept calling. At one point, she switched off the phone so my calls weren’t getting through.
I stared at the steering wheel and sat there in silence, contemplating over my decisions.
Am really I doing the right thing here? Then, why is she getting even more upset than she is already?
I even apologized. Then, am I doing wrong in here? My mind went blank. I couldn’t think of anything afterwards.
All of a sudden, my phone rang. I picked up my phone only to be surprised.
