“Next! we heard someone say behind the table in the gym handling out the homecoming tickets.
We saw a freshman guy and a freshman girl smiling and holding hands, walking past us.
We were in the line right behind the couple. So, now it’s our turn to pay for our homecoming tickets.
We walked up towards the table, and we all handed out five-dollar bills to the girl behind the table collecting the money.
“We would like to buy three tickets, please,” we tell her.
She stared at us. Then she gave us a fake smile and blew out a bubble.
We didn’t know she was chewing gum.
She grabs the tickets from the other girl behind her.
We kind of looked where she went in a box, and we saw thousands of homecoming tickets.
Wow, that’s a lot of tickets, I thought.
I was thinking how much they would have left the tickets.
I am glad we came here early before they ran out of homecoming tickets.
After they hand out our tickets to us.
We put them in our bag.
We started walking to the cafeteria to grab lunch.
After we got our lunch in the cafeteria.
Today’s menu is Pizza and a chef’s salad and pear.
I am so excited because they made their Pizza from scratch.
We sat down and started eating.
” Avery, are you never about the dance?” Natalie asks me.
” Yeah,” I tell her with a shy smile.
But what I am really feeling. I didn’t want them to know.
I am nervous and worried at the same time.
“I hope nothing happens there,” I heard Natalie say under her breath.
“Hey, stop worrying, girls, it’s going to be a blast,” Ashely said with a smile.
Natalie didn’t say anything. I think she knows what is going to happen at the dance.
It was like a warning she wanted to tell us.
But she doesn’t want to ruin it by telling us something bad is going to happen there.
I pick up my Pizza.
I saved that for last.
I already ate my chef’s salad and pears.
I wasn’t wasting any time. I started eating.
After I prayed, of course, then I started to eat.
They do not give us enough time to eat.
The school only gives us twenty-five minutes for lunch.
That’s it.
So, after the salad and the fruit were done.
That is when I grab the slice of Pizza to my mouth.
I started to lift it to my mouth.
But that was when I heard loud voices on the other side of the cafeteria.
What now! I thought.
I drop my Pizza on my tray. I was annoyed.

“Woods!”

I heard people yelling and hollering over at the other side of the cafeteria.
That was when I heard Ashely growl under her breath.
“That stupid mother fucker,” Ashely said, gritting her teeth, folding her hands in her fists, and staring over at Jayson Woods.
He had a cheerleader on his lap.
They were kissing and making out.
He was staring over at Ashely with a smug look on his face.
” Seriously, Disgusting!
“We people are trying to eat.”
We don’t want to see two stupid idiots sucking their face-off.”
“I lost my appetite,” she said a little louder, so people heard her saying it.
That’s when the girl on his lap stopped kissing. Jayson turned around and had her eyes on Ashely.
She looked right at Ashely and spoke.
” Well, sweetie, I would too if I was as ugly as you,” she said, started laughing, and the whole cafeteria at Ashely.
Oh my God.
People can be so cruel.
But Ashely just laughed and stared right at her. She spoke.
” At least I know I am not a slut.” Ashely tells her.
“Why you little bitch”- the girl didn’t get to finish her words because Jayson grabbed her by the neck. He whispered in her ear.
We saw her face lose color, and he got up.
Ahh, we heard her cry out because he knocked her on her ass.
When he moved.
She got up and sat on the other side of the table, away from him.
Did he just tell her off for what he said to Ashely?
Hmm, I didn’t have enough time.
Because Ashely got up, she started walking up toward the cooks and gave her tray to them.
She walked out the door.
Natalie and I were going to go after her. But I knew she wanted to be left alone.
I know Ashely, and she is a hothead. She got a temper.
She needs to cool off.
But even the girl said that to her. I saw the hurt and pain in her eyes when she told her she was ugly.
Jayson Woods has been telling her she is ugly for a long time.
But then I saw Jayson get up off his seat, and he started walking out the door.
Oh, God, I hope he doesn’t go after Ashely.
But I have my own problems with my bullies/mates.
I look over at Natalie and see the expression on her face.
I saw pain and hurt.
That is when I find out my two best friends have their secrets.
I have been keeping my own too.
I let out a sigh. I picked up my Pizza, and I started eating it again.
“I am finished!” I heard Natalie say.
Yeah, me too.” I tell her.
We started cleaning up our mess. That was when I felt a shiver go up to my back.
I don’t have to look behind me to know they are watching me.
I can feel their eyes on me.
But I didn’t want to look over at them.
I felt my insides turning to mush, and I felt heat go up to my body.
I licked my lips from a habit I have when I am nervous.
I am trying to get up off my seat, but I didn’t want them to see they affect me.
I can still feel their hands all over my body.
No, Avery don’t think about them that way.

They are not yours.
“Avery, hey, are you okay.” I heard Natalie say.
I turn my head and look at her concerned face.
“Yes, I am okay,” I tell her.
When I started to get up and walked up toward the cook, I gave our tray to them.
We started walking but I wasn’t paying attention.
Because I ran into a brick wall.
Oh, God, I feel so embarrassed because people saw what happened.
I felt my cheeks warming up.
But what I felt wasn’t a brick wall.
But hands wrapped around my waist.
It was like the person we were protecting me.
“Oh, I am sorry, I told the person has me in their hold.
“It’s okay, my little mate,” I heard his voice.
I gasped, and I looked up into his stormy eyes.
We stand there just staring at each other.
“Yeah, it’s okay,” I heard someone behind him say.
That was when I looked up, and I saw Jake smiling at me because he was the one who spoke to me.
I saw Andrew beside him and Matthew beside Elijah.
I can feel my heart is beating fast inside my chest.
I wanted to wrap my arms around them and tell them I forgive them.
No, I wanted to tell them I miss them.
Oh, God, I miss them.
I was going to cry. I need to getaway.
I didn’t want them to see me cry.
I sighed, and I stared at them one more time.
I will never get to be with them anymore.
I will never get to kiss their lips.
I will never get to hold them one more time.
I let out a breath. I guess I was holding in.
And that when I drop my arms away from my body.
And I shoveled Elijah’s chest, and I pushed him away.
I walked away from them.
I didn’t look back to know they were still standing at the same spot I left them.
I can feel them watching me walk away.
I can still feel the heat in my stomach for them.
My heart is telling me to go back to them.
Or it was my wolf and veela.
But that can’t be because they are not there. They are with my mates’ wolves.
At least they can be together.
As for them and me.
We are different.
It could never work out.
I am a loner, nobody, and they are popular, and everyone knows them.
We are in a different group in school.
I wish it were different because I would be back in their arms.
I would tell the people on the mountain top tell them they are mine.
But that’s not what’s going to happen.
This is not a movie where the nerd gets the guy or guys.
That is not how it works.
So, I walked away with my heart breaking and tears streaming down my face.
