I was in class, listening to the professor discussing the evolution of animals. He was comparing the genomic studies of different species to explain their evolutionary relationships.
The foundation of the theory of evolution stems from Darwin’s concept of natural selection. Everything seemed scientific and logical.
But then there were werewolves-creatures that existed outside the realm of science.
As the lecture was about to end, Evelyn raised her hand. “Professor, do you believe in the existence of werewolves?”
Her question drew immediate laughter from the surrounding students.
The professor, standing at the podium, adjusted his glasses and frowned. “Have you been reading too many novels or watching too much TV? Werewolves are purely fictional. They don’t align with evolutionary theory. How could a wolf and a human coexist in one body?”
Disappointment clouded Evelyn’s face.
I was about to comfort her when my phone buzzed. Kael was calling.
Since I couldn’t pick up during class, I declined the call and texted him instead. I asked why he was calling me at this time-he should’ve known I was in class.
Kael replied quickly: Lucian has escaped. He’s gone.
Lucian? Escaped?
How could his strength have grown so much? Kael must have been prepared, so how did Lucian manage to break free?
Was it possible that Lucian, despite appearing weak recently, had been secretly growing stronger?
I didn’t know if Lucian would come for me, but I decided to wait for Kael to arrive. Anxiety churned within me as disappointment in Lucian weighed heavily on my heart.
He had changed so much-become someone I barely recognized.
After class, I told Evelyn and the others to leave without me.
I stayed behind, slowly packing my things in the empty classroom, waiting for Kael.
I couldn’t leave with Evelyn. If Lucian came looking for me, I didn’t want to put her in danger.
But as I was gathering my belongings, a gust of wind swept through the room.
A sudden, overwhelming sense of danger enveloped me.
Before I could react, I was grabbed and pulled into someone’s arms.
The grip was strong-unyielding. My waist was locked so tightly that my ribs ached, and it became hard to breathe. My body collided with a firm chest.
“Help!” I screamed, realizing something was wrong.
I turned my head with great effort and saw Lucian’s emotionless face.
There was no expression on it, but his eyes were deep-like an abyss.
He held me tightly in his arms as Marek suddenly burst into the room, running toward us.
“Let her go!” Marek shouted.
Lucian let out a cold laugh.
Before I could even process what was happening, the view around me blurred, and the sound of rushing wind filled my ears.
In the blink of an eye, Lucian had taken me away.
When I came to my senses, I found myself in an unfamiliar room.
Looking around, my eyes landed on a bed in the center of the room. Dread crept over me.
Lucian tossed me onto the bed.
The mattress was soft, and the bounce cushioned the fall. It didn’t hurt, but my body instinctively jolted.
I tried to struggle, but Lucian’s tall frame loomed over me, pressing me down.
Gripping my chin, he kissed me.
“Seraph, have you missed me? I’ve thought about you every single day. It hurts-my heart, my body. Without you, every day feels like hell.”
Lucian’s lips moved against mine, claiming me.
I fought back with all my strength, but it was useless.
He easily forced my lips apart and pried open my clenched teeth. His tongue invaded my mouth, exploring every inch.
I stared at him in horror as he devoured me like a delicacy.
Revulsion churned in my stomach, and I felt the urge to vomit.
We had kissed before. Back then, my heart would race uncontrollably, and I’d melt into his embrace, overwhelmed by joy and nervous excitement.
But now, all I could think about was how he had kissed Vivienne with these same lips-and slept with her.
My stomach churned violently. I gagged, unable to hold it back.
Lucian stopped, pulling away as he cradled me against his chest. He stared into my tear-filled eyes for a long moment.
“Seraph, do you hate me this much? So much that you can’t even bear my touch?”
“Don’t touch me, Lucian. Don’t make me hate you.”
I beat against his chest with all my strength, but he didn’t budge.
To him, my blows were nothing more than a tickle.
He had always been strong-even back when he was a boxer.
Now, with his werewolf genes, he was even more powerful.
I thought of what Kael had said-how Lucian had broken free of their control. That meant his strength might already rival Kael’s.
Lucian held me tightly, cradling me in his arms.
Compared to his towering frame, I felt small and powerless.
I despised this feeling-this helplessness.
“Seraph, I know you hate me no matter what I do. But it doesn’t matter. I’ll keep you by my side.”
As he spoke, his hand moved to my chest, squeezing me roughly.
The pain made me tremble, and his lips found my neck, sucking deeply.
“Stop! Let me go, Lucian! I’ll hate you forever if you don’t!”
I thrashed wildly, hitting him with everything I had.
But Lucian didn’t let go. He didn’t even flinch.
His lips trailed down my body, his hot breath searing my skin and raising goosebumps.
I hated this.
No matter how hard I hit him, Lucian refused to release me.
I could only watch in horror as he tore my clothes apart, baring me to his gaze.
He kissed my body, his hands wandering lower, teasing and tormenting me until my body betrayed me, becoming more sensitive.
Tears streamed down my face as I silently prayed.
Please, Kael, come quickly. Save me.
He would’ve realized something was wrong when he couldn’t find me at school. He had to be on his way. Or maybe Marek had already called him.
But my clothes were already in shreds, and Lucian was closing in again.
He paused when he saw the tears in my eyes.
Reaching out, he gently wiped them away.
“Seraph, do you hate me this much? You used to love it when I touched you.”
“That was before. Let me go, Lucian!”
“Never.”
Lucian’s cold laugh sent shivers down my spine.
“Seraphina, you’re mine-always. I’m stronger now. I can protect you forever.”
But before he could do anything else, a powerful gust of wind tore through the room, flipping the massive bed over.
