His eyes were dark, with a shallow and indifferent gaze.
Callie felt her breath catch, her mind went blank as she saw him quickly look away, as if he hadn’t seen anything.
Then she heard his casual response, “Um, cool, looks like someone with a strong background, who can be willful and fearless.”
Callie had no hopes for this company.
Every time she came to Anbusea, she would stay here for a night. Her identity wasn’t as noticeable as it was in Ylosea, so she did everything without much worry.
She carried Reuben’s photo, asking around.
She had a hunch that his disappearance was related to Anbusea.
One day, while she was eating noodles in a small noodle shop, she received a call from Malachi. “Miss Marsh, are you free? Let me treat you to some noodles.”
His usual line.
Callie glanced at the noodles in front of her and smiled slightly. “I’m eating now. Talk on the phone.”
“You become a media sensation lately. I thought you wouldn’t answer my call.” He joked.
Callie couldn’t muster a smile.
“Scarface disappeared for a few months and finally reappeared, right here in Anbusea.” Malachi got straight to the point.
Callie paused her action of picking up noodles. “Where?”
“Anbusea.” Malachi repeated. “Just giving you an update. I’ll notify you of any other updates. By the way, where are you now?”
Callie didn’t answer directly. She pressed her lips together. “Malachi, I have to go.”
The sun was setting, and the TV in the noodle shop was broadcasting financial news. She glanced at it unconsciously and suddenly saw Nelson’s figure.
He appeared on TV, in a meeting. His eyes were serene as a glass of water, always restrained and calm.
It was the first time in many days that she saw Nelson again.
However, the news being reported was negative for him. Callie listened carefully and understood the gist of it.
Currently, Nelson held forty-nine percent of the shares, and Owen held the same amount.
The two were locked in a fierce struggle.
He gambled his future on her obsession.
He won the bet but lost everything.
Callie wanted to laugh. He never made a losing deal, yet at that moment, he chose to lose for her sake.
He seemed deeply affectionate for her, but it was an undeniable fact that he decided to send her abroad and marry Charlotte after recognizing her.
She could guess why.
He was so clear-headed that it was impossible to read his mind.
Her phone vibrated again. It was an email from the construction company, asking her to start work tomorrow.
Callie replied word by word: Sorry, I might need to delay by two days.
She booked a high-speed train back to Ylosea.
However, as soon as she got off the train, she was stopped by a group of strong bodyguards. “Miss Marsh, we’ve been waiting for you.”
Callie stood still. “Whose people are you?”
“Owen wants to invite you for tea.”
He had finally tracked her down. When they divorced, Nelson gave Callie one percent of Oconnor Group’s shares, which were now coming into play.
“What if I don’t go?”
“Then we have to act tough.”
Callie raised an eyebrow and saw a group of familiar figures. “Look behind you.”
They frowned and turned around to see Kieran leading bodyguards in plain clothes hidden among the crowd.
For days, two groups had been following Callie between Ylosea and Anbusea without disturbing her.
Their faces changed dramatically in disbelief. In the end, they didn’t want to cause a scene. “Retreat!”
Kieran saw them leave and breathed a sigh of relief. However, seeing Callie walking towards him step by step made him instinctively fearful.
“… Callie.”
