SHELLEY’S POV
She took determined strides into the precinct. She walked to the reception and the first thing her eyes caught was the picture of the girl with “missing” written boldly on it. Attached to it was a prize for whoever had information about her whereabouts.
She sighed heavily as she finally approached the policeman on the counter.
“Good evening, sir,” she greeted politely.
“Good evening, Ma’am. How do I help you?”
“I’m here in regards to the missing girl,” she pointed at Tiffany’s picture on the wall. ” I know where she is being held and who is behind it,” she said in a rush, afraid she would change her mind.
“Really? C’mon, I will lead you to the detective in charge of the case,” the policeman said in disbelief.
She followed meekly, and soon they were in front of an office door. The policeman knocked on the door and a voice from the inside asked them to come in.
The policeman led her inside. “This lady claims to have information about the whereabouts of Mrs Tiffany Dion,” the policeman said to the man seated on a large plush office chair.
The man jerked up in surprise as he let out a “Really?” Have a seat,” and turning to the policeman he said a ” thank you, officer Daniel I will take it up from here.”
The policeman nodded and left and the other man turned to look at her. “I am officer Tessa Fowler. Kindly repeat what you said to him,” he said and took out a recorder from his drawer.
Shelley sighed as she rubbed her palms together nervously.
“My name is Shelley Duvall. It all started when I needed to pay my student loan and offset some other bills. I reached out to my female friend for help. She refused at first, but changed her mind and asked that I do a job for her and get paid. I was reluctant at first because of what the job entails, but…but, I had to do it…”
“What job was it?” Officer Fowler asked curiously.
“The kidnap of Tiffany Dion,” she replied and watched his brows arch in surprise.
She continued, ” I contacted some men and she was kidnapped. My friend wanted her gang raped, but the girl was valiant. She fought the men, and luckily she was rescued by the police…”
“That was my men and I,” officer Fowler interrupted with a hint of pride in his voice.
“My friend was angry because her plan was ruined. I thought everything had ended with that attempt, little did I know she had something else up her sleeves. A few weeks ago, my rent expired and I reached out to her for help and then she suggested I do another job for her. Like the previous one, she wanted the girl kidnapped again. Left with no choice, I accepted. I got her kidnapped again but this time around, my friend has other plans, she paused to look at officer Fowler.
“What plans?”
Shelley ignored him and continued, “I visited where the girl was being held to give her food the day before yesterday, and was shocked at the sight that I was met with. The men had beaten her until she lost consciousness and when I asked, they told me she was pregnant and my friend had found out and asked that they beat her until she lost the baby.”
“This is barbaric,” officer Fowler spat.
“At that moment, I knew I would do anything to rescue the innocent girl. I convinced the men not to hit her again with the promise of bringing a medicine that could get rid of the baby. I confronted my friend and she was not remorseful, so I threatened to tell the police. She thought I was bluffing and told me so, but I proved her wrong by attempting to leave and then she hit me with a bottle of wine,” she paused. “I woke up in the house of a kind old couple at the outskirts of a town called Squamish. According to them, I was found in a sleeping bag. They helped me find my way back and I decided it was high time I turned myself in to the police.”
“Who is this friend of yours?” officer Fowler asked.
She hesitated and then looked him straight in the eye, “Rachel Sparks.”
SHAWN’S POV
He was seated playing solitaire with Bryan, yet he kept zoning out. He has been a shadow of himself and nothing seemed to excite him anymore.
Bryan has been a great support system. He was always with him, cooking his meals, trying to cheer him up as much as he could.
“A penny for your thought, man,” Bryan said, snapping his fingers in front of his face.
“What were you saying?” He asked, snapping out of his reverie.
“I was asking if you would go to the club with me tonight,” Bryan said.
“Look, I appreciate your concern, but I’m not interested,” he said in a blunt tone.
“I know how much you are going through but you can’t keep blaming yourself. Let’s just be optimistic that she will be found…” Bryan was still talking when the ringing of his phone interrupted him.
He checked the caller ID and saw it was officer Fowler. He immediately answered the call.
“I need you to come over to the precinct, we have information about your wife’s whereabouts,” officer Fowler said over the phone.
He gasped in disbelief and quickly turned to Bryan who was seated next to him on the couch.
“Who was it?” Bryan asked curiously.
“It’s the police. They have information about Tiffany’s whereabouts and asked me to come to the precinct,” he explained.
“I’m coming with you,” Bryan said, picking up his car key. “And I’m driving. You don’t seem to be in the right state of mind,” Bryan said and they walked out.
Bryan drove them to the precinct and they alighted and walked into the precinct. They walked to officer Fowler’s office and were asked to come in.
“I’m glad you are here,” officer Fowler turned to the lady seated on the chair across from him, “she has all the information we need. My men are getting ready and we are leaving after now.”
Shawn turned to look at the lady. “Who are you?”
“I’m Shelley Duvall, a friend of Rachel Sparks. And yes, she is responsible for your wife’s kidnap. You need to hurry up if you want your wife and baby alive…”
Shawn immediately lurched at her, pulling her up from the chair. “What have you done to her?”
“Relax, now is not the time. We need to be on our way. C’mon,” officer Fowler said, pulling him away.
An officer walked in, “Sir, the cars are ready and so are the men.”
“That’s good. Have the other men been sent out to go after her?”
“Yes, they are on her tail.”
“Kindly take this lady to the cell. We will get back to her when we are back.”
The officer walked to Shelley and led her out of the room.
“Let’s head out,” officer Fowler said and they walked out to the cars filled with armed policemen outside.
“Bryan, I think you should go…”
“You had better not finish saying what you intend to say. I’m going with you guys,” Bryan said, his mouth set in a stubborn line.
“Alright, let him be,” officer Fowler said in an inpatient tone.
They got into one of the cars and soon, they were on their way to rescue Tiffany.
