DETECTIVE COPLER’S POV
On Zara’s advice, he went to the address of the owner of the P. O box with some men from the precinct. They stayed at a safe distance in the car while he went in alone.
He stealthily walked towards the door, his gun tucked safely away in his Holster. Gently, he rapped his knuckles on the door, and almost immediately, the door swung open and an angry looking face surfaced.
“Do you have my supplies…?” The red faced man asked but stopped when he saw copler’s face.
“Hello….”
“Who the fuck are you?” The man asked, looking irritated and Copler thought he saw another emotion he could call fear.
“Can I see the owner of this place?”
“Who the hell are you, motherfucker?”
“Detective Copler,” he took out his ID and ashes in the man’s face. “FBI.”
Immediately, the man made to close the door, but He stopped him with his leg on the door.
“I have a few questions to ask, and your cooperation will be needed.”
The man looked at him angrily, and realizing he didn’t have an option, let the door open.
“Thank you,” Copler said and walked inside.
“I’m a very busy man, so I want you to go straight to the point.” The man said nervously, scratching his body as he looked everywhere but Copler’s face.
Almost immediately, a shirtless young man walked out of the door behind them, and Copler’s face widened in shock at who He saw.
“Yo…you?” He asked and from the corner of his eyes, he noticed the other man trying to take out a gun, but he beat him to it as he took out his immediately.
“Keep your hands where I can see them.” And then he spoke into the chip he had on, “Come in, guys.”
“Who the hell are you, dickhead?” The man cussed as he stared at Copler angrily, but he didn’t care because his focus was more on the other young man.
Copler never expected to see him there. What was he doing there?
“Who is he to you?” He asked, pointing to the young man.
“Whatcha business?” The man replied, still infuriated.
“I know him from somewhere and I want to know your relationship with him.”
The man stared hesitantly at the young man and muttered, “He is my son.”
Copler turned his attention to the young man, and that was the mistake he made because the man lurched forward at him knocking them both to the floor.
“You don’t fucking mind your business, huh?” The man said, wrapping his hand around his neck.
Copler choked as he reached for his gun that lay a few meters away after they fell, but the man’s son was quick enough because he kicked the gun far away.
The son walked to him and kicked him heavily on the nose, and Copler could swear his nose was broken.
He was going to be in deep shit if his men didn’t arrive soon. There was no way he was going to handle the men alone. At least, not in his State.
Another kick to his face got him writhing in pain. Then the man’s son walked up to the gun and picked it from the floor.
“You should have minded your business, detective. But no, you chose to Snoop around matters that aren’t your business.” The man’s son said, and pointed the gun at him.
Just as he made to pull the trigger, the fire burst open and his men walked in, armed to the teeth.
The man was dragged off him, and landed a jaw shattering blow to his jaw.
“That’s for not being cooperative.” And then he turned to his men. “Take them away.”
But all the while, his eyes were still fixed on the man’s son.
SHAWN’S POV
After he ended the call with Rachel, he slumped on the couch in exhaustion. He was tired and worried about Tiffany’s wellbeing.
What could she have done to the Mary girl that could make her attempt to murder her in such a gruesome way?
Tiffany might be a handful, but she was a loving girl, even though he hated to admit it, and she didn’t deserve to experience such pain.
He would make sure the girl paid. Paid for trying to hurt someone that belongs to him.
Then he remembered the owner of the juvenile facility, and placed a call immediately. He needed to know what was going on.
“Mr Gold?”
“Good day, Mr George. Any information from the girl.”
“She has refused to say her reason for doing what she did. I think she needs medical attention because she is getting aggressive with every passing hour.”
“Then get her checked! Do everything possible to make her speak.”
“We are on it, Sir.”
“I want positive feedback.” He said and ended the call.
Tired, he rested his head on the couch and fell asleep. He woke up after an hour to the ringing of his phone.
“Shit!” He jerked up from the couch and picked his car key and phone before rushing out. He was supposed to go shopping with Rachel to get some toiletries for Tiffany.
She was not awake yet, but he was holding on and believing she would, soon. The shopping was a way of holding on and being optimistic about her recovery.
He drove to Rachel’s place, picked her up and they headed for the mall together.
“I don’t know much about feminine stuff, which was why I asked for your help.” He said to Rachel as they alighted from the car at the mall.
“Sure. I’m willing to help.” She replied.
He nodded and they walked into the mall. Rachel did the selection and picking of the items. After they were done, they paid at the counter and the bagger helped them take it to the car.
“Any news on the girl?” Rachel suddenly asked as they drove to the hospital. She had insisted on going with him.
“What girl?”
“The one behind all of these.”
Shawn’s hands tightened around the steering as he remembered someone was responsible for Tiffany’s predicament.
“No news yet. They think she needs medical attention.”
“I can’t believe a little girl like her could do something as barbaric as that. Indeed, the heart of a man is wicked ”
Shawn stayed quiet. He didn’t know what to say and was not in the mood to talk much.
They arrived at the hospital, and walked into Tiffany’s hospital room. She was lying in the same position they last saw her the previous day. She could pass for a dead person.
He walked to her, leaned forward and pecked her forehead, before he took a seat beside her.
“Hey, Tiffany. I hope you are doing well. I know I was not the best housemate, and…” He paused, and rubbed his face with his palm. “And husband too, but I need a second chance to make things right, and I can’t do that when you are not awake. Please, wake up and let me make things right by you.” He murmured as he stared at her like she could hear him.
“She will be fine, Shawny.” Rachel walked up to him, as she rubbed his shoulders lightly.
They stayed that way until it was time to leave.
“I will Come back to see you tomorrow and every other day until you wake up.” He said and pecked her forehead again.
And with one last glance, he walked out of the room with Rachel.
