TIMOTHY’S POV
He was tired of the whole enemity between himself and Tiffany. He missed his best friend and if there was anything he could do to turn back the hands of time, he would do it without a second thought.
He made up his mind that he was going to tell her what and who pushed him to confess his feelings. He was tired and needed to get the burden off his chest.
So, he bidded his time and waited for the right time to talk to her. She had classes and the only time he had the opportunity was after her last class for the day, so he walked towards the direction of the school building the rooftop was on, and where the class was to be held.
He stood at a hidden corner where he could see everyone and yet could not be seen. After hours of waiting, students began to troop out and that meant they were done with class, but yet, there was no sign of Tiffany.
He became more alert when the teacher walked out, and still Tiffany was not in sight. He decided to stall a bit, maybe she had something to do and would be done soon.
While he waited, he suddenly saw Mary Quevara heading for the building. His senses became more alert as he watched her walk briskly and she kept turning to ensure no one was looking at, or following her.
Suspicious and curious about her mission there, he followed her immediately. She climbed the stairs and got to the class. He hid at a corner and watched her scan everywhere and then she hissed and walked out.
He continued following her and her next stop was the rooftop deck. Surprisingly, he saw Tiffany standing and looking down. He was shocked, Tiffany Dion was scared of high altitudes like their rooftops and he was confused as to why she was standing.
Deciding to focus on his reason for being there, he watched Mary walk up toTiffany, and She must have sensed her presence because she made to turn, and then Mary did the unthinkable.
She pushed her down…
His eyes widened in shock as he made to shout but no noise was coming out. Stealthily, he retreated his steps and ran towards the security quarter.
“Tiffany has just been pushed down the rooftop by Mary. Please, hurry up.”
The security guards followed him immediately as they ran towards the direction of the rooftop. And as they got close, they saw Mary Quevara rushing out and she bumped into them.
“She is the one. I saw her push Tiffany down.” And then turning hysterically to another guard, he pleaded. “Please, save my friend. She is at the other end of the building.”
“We already called the school clinic.” The guard said and turned to his colleague whose firm grip was on Mary’s arm. “Take her to the principal’s office.”
“Let me go! I didn’t do anything to her.” She screamed as she struggled with them.
Her screams were ignored as she was dragged to the principal’s office. Timothy was not bothered about her. His concern was about Tiffany’s wellbeing, and nothing prepared him for the sight he was met with when the school clinic medics wheeled her towards the ambulance.
His best friend was covered in blood as she lay lifeless on the stretcher. He hurried after them but was pulled back by one of the guards.
“Let them be. Your friend needs all the medical attention she can get. Don’t try to get in the way.”
He nodded as tears trickled down his cheeks in uncontrollable torrents. Freya rushed to him to ask what happened and he hugged her as they both burst into tears.
Other students stared at them in pity as they cried their hearts and eyes out. Just then, a guard tapped him and informed him about his attention being needed at the principal’s office.
He disengaged from the hug with Freya and followed the guard. They got there and he was asked to go in.
“Mister McVeigh, what were you doing at the crime scene at that time?” Detective Copler asked as he walked in.
“I wanted to talk to Tiffany.”
“Why?”
“We had a fallout recently…”
“May I ask why?” the Detective interrupted.
“We had a fallout because I was selfish. I asked her to be my girlfriend despite being aware that she was married. So, our friendship suffered.”
“And why would you ask a married woman to be your girlfriend?”
“Because I have always liked her but couldn’t tell her.” He said, bowing his head in shame.
“Can you explain how you caught Miss Guevara here?”
“I waited for Tiffany a few metres away from the building. I Wanted to earn her forgiveness, and this time, I was not ready to back off until she forgave me. I became apprehensive when all the students were out and the teacher too, yet no sign of Tiffany. And then, Mary Quevara approached the building. She was walking briskly and kept looking behind her back. Judging from her enemity with Tiffany and the fact that she was in art discipline and not supposed to be there, I followed her.
She got to the class where the lesson was held and when there was no sign of Tiffany she walked to the rooftop and I followed. And that was when…. Oh, God!” His voice cracked and he covered his face with his palm as sobbed loudly.
“Tiffany sensed her presence and she was about to turn when Mary pushed her. She pushed her and I could do nothing about it.” And this time, he broke down totally and cried.
“It’s okay, Timothy. You have to stop crying.” The detective said, patting his shoulder.
“She was innocent and didn’t deserve what Mary did to her.”
The detective nodded and turned to Mary who sat with a defiant look in her eyes.
“Why were you at the rooftop and why did you push Tiffany Dion?”
“I won’t say a thing until my lawyer arrives.” She said stubbornly.
“Impressive, she knows her right. But can I tell you that you were caught red-handed in the act and you will be sent to prison?”
“No, I won’t. You just wanna scare me, and sorry, please try harder.”
“So why were you there, on the rooftop? You don’t offer Geography and that place is off limits to art inclined students.”
“I was there to sightsee because I have heard lots of stories about the rooftop. I know, I was not supposed to be there and I’m sorry. I got there and Saw Tiffany looking down, she got startled, slipped and fell. I was scared and rushed down to ask for help and then I saw Timothy approaching with the security guards and they grabbed me and dragged me here. I’m also a victim here, and I want to go home!”
Detective Copler sighed in confusion. He was torn on who to believe. He was still contemplating on the next line of action to take when one of the security guards brought in a Chubby boy in glasses holding a camera.
“Detective, this little boy came with his parents. He is insisting he has something to say.”
“Who are you little, one?”
“My name is Marcus, and I’m not little.” The boy said with a frown and everyone burst into laughter.
“Okay, Marcus. Can we hear what you have to say?” Detective Copler asked, more carefully this time.
“My family and I recently moved into the penthouse on the tall building opposite the school. I like to take pictures with the camera my father got me. Pictures of anything and anyone.” Then he stopped to catch his breath as he was panting already.
Detective Copler made a mental note to advise his parents to let him go on diet.
“And then I saw her. A beautiful female student. She stood and looked down at the world below and also at the houses around. I was fascinated, so I said, Marcus, why don’t you take some pictures. And I took pictures, not until this girl!” He yelled and pointed his short and Chubby fingers at Mary. “She arrived at the rooftop and pushed her down.” And then he burst into tears.
“Can I see the pictures you took?”
“Of course, of course.” Marcus replied and handed him over the camera.
The pictures were all Detective Copler needed. And he turned to Mary, “Your cover has been blown.”
“Thank you, Marcus. We need more citizens like you to help us combat crimes.”
Marcus nodded and a security guard walked him outside.
Mary suddenly stood up and ran towards the door but was apprehended by a guard.
“Not so fast, Mary.” Detective Copler said.
“She deserved it! And if I am given the opportunity again, I would push her down a thousand rooftops.” She said aggressively as the guard held her down.
“She will be taken to a juvenile facility on Shawn Gold’s order.” The principal said and turned to Mary. “I hope you know who you messed with? Shawn Gold would not let you go Scot free for hurting his wife. Please, take her away.”
“Let me go! She deserved it! Everything, and I hope she dies!” Mary said as they took her out.
