Chapter 112

DETECTIVE COPLER’S POV
He stepped on the car’s accelerator to pick up speed. His mind raced as adrenaline rushed through his veins with thoughts of the unknown clouding his mind.
He could feel it in his guts that all was not alright and until he got home, he would not stop feeling that way.
A few minutes later, he arrived at his place and parked his car at a distance so as to not alert whomever his guts suspected to be in his house. He walked to the front door and it was still locked like he left it, and he began to relax a bit.
Still, he opened the door and walked inside. Everywhere was still dark and he made to turn on the light when he felt something, no, someone, hit him with something hard on his head.
He writhed in pain as he doubled over and lost balance. His attacker tried to hit him with the object again, but he quickly ducked and went after him.
The attacker fled and ran in the direction of the backdoor that led to his backyard. It was not until the attacker escaped through the backdoor did he realize was left ajar. Meaning, the culprit had broken in through the backdoor.
Whomever it was, had been studying him for a while and that explains why he or she knew their way around his house.
Seeing that going after the culprit was a lost battle, he retreated back to his house. This time, all he wanted was to be sure his evidence and materials were intact.
He bolted the doors and turned on the lights, just in case the culprit was still lurking around. He walked to his safe with the aid of his phone torch, and luckily, everything was still intact.
He heaved a sigh of relief as he walked to the couch and slumped on it, his head throbbing with pain. That was when he looked around his apartment and saw that everywhere had been ransacked and scattered.
His marble chair was broken with shards of glasses on the floor. Books on his shelf were laying on the floor with most of them thorn beyond repair and recognition.
“Son of a bitch!” He cussed as he massaged his head slightly. He moaned in agony as the pain he was feeling tripled.
He hazily walked into his bathroom as he took out a packet of analgesic from the drug shelf on the wall. Being a detective also involved having important medicines that could come in handy in emergency situations like this.
He popped two tablets into his palm and walked to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. Not bothering about a cup, he threw the tablets into his mouth and gulped down the water.
Exhausted, he walked back to the bathroom and stripped off his clothes. He got under the shower and let the water cascade down his body as his foggy mind tried to process what had happened a few minutes ago.
The culprit was getting scared of being caught and was doing everything possible to cover his tracks and that includes breaking into his house to get rid of evidence that could implicate him.
He liked the direction the culprit was taking because sooner or later, he would make a mistake and slip and that would lead to his apprehension.
Nervous criminals are always like that and he has seen and handled them. They get nervous and terrified of getting caught, and in an attempt to cover their tracks, they end up blowing up their covers.
He would wait for that one particular mistake and take things up from there. With that thought in mind, he walked out of the bathroom to his room.
Fortunately, his room was in better condition than the sitting room. He slipped on a sweatpant and vest before walking to the kitchen to make some toasts and coffee.
After eating, he walked to his room and took out his silencer gun. He loaded it with bullets after which he tucked it in his sweatpant before heading outside to run a parameter check on his environment.
Satisfied that the coast was clear, he walked back inside and locked every form of entrance. And then he went to bed. Of course, not without his gun within reach.
TIFFANY’S POV
She stared at him in shock and so did everyone in the cafeteria.
Suddenly, chants of “Say Yes!” filled the air.
At first her face was masked with a confused expression and then anger. What had gotten into him? They were Best friends for Christ sake!
“I’m sorry, but I can’t be your girlfriend, Timothy.” She said angrily and walked away.
Freya immediately went after her. “Calm down, Tiff.”
“Calm down? What did he do that for? I can’t believe what just happened. Asking me to be his girlfriend is the least thing I expected from him.”
“I know, right? I’m as confused and surprised as you. What came over him?”
“How am I supposed to know? I’m embarrassed. The news will be all over the school. Another reason to be on the lips of every student of Shine high School. I’m tired, Freya.”
“I’m sorry about that, Tiff. I believe we can sort this out. Maybe it was a prank. You know how Tim can be.”
“You call that a prank? What sort of prank is that? I’m married, Freya. Married! Why would he pull such a stunt on me?”
“I honestly don’t know, Tiff. Can we go and talk to him? At least, get an explanation for his action.”
“I can’t face him right now. Please, I need to be alone.”
“But, Tiff…”
“Not now, Freya. Everything is just happening so fast. Everyone around me is just changing, and I’m afraid it’s not for the best. Go to class, I will join you later.” She said and walked away.
As usual, she went to her favorite spot. On sitting down, she burst into tears.
Everything was taking a different shape and it scared her. She still couldn’t believe Timothy would attempt something like that.
Ask her to be his girlfriend? How? Why?
Were they not supposed to be best friends? When did the love for her grow that She did not take notice?
Her fear was Shawn. What if someone made a video and sold it to bloggers? The news would circulate and it would be a slap on his face and he would take it out on her.
She prayed no one would make a video, and even if they did, she prayed it wouldn’t go outside the school.
Tired and noticing she was beginning to develop a slight headache, she hesitantly got up and headed for class.
“Are you okay, Miss Dion?” The teacher asked as she walked into the class absent mindedly.
“Yes, I am. Thank you.” She replied and walked to her seat.
The next few hours were spent learning and despite how hard she tried, she could not concentrate. Her classmates kept giving her different looks. She could feel their eyes on her.
Soon, it was school over and she carried her bag, ready to leave.
“I won’t be waiting with you guys in the parking lot. I’m going home straight away.” She said to Freya as they got ready to leave.
Freya nodded in understanding and she mouthed a goodbye before walking out.
