SHAWN’S POV
He woke up in the penthouse, and began to prepare for work. His night was a bit restless as he could barely sleep well.
After preparing, he got to his office. He was already working when Rachel arrived. “Wow, Shawn. This is the first time you are coming to work before me.” She teased me.
“You are wrong about that.” Shawn replied.
“I’m not, and you know that. It’s surprising to see you at work this early, but at the same time good.” Rachel replied.
“I should win the award for the most punctual worker. What do you think?” Shawn asked playfully.
“You are kidding. I missed us like this, Shawn. You know, our jokes and playful banters.” Rachel suddenly said.
“This is a professional setting, Rachel. And you don’t expect us to always crack jokes and play when there is work to do.” Shawn replied.
“That’s true.” And then looking at her wrist watch she muttered “let’s talk later. We will go to lunch together. And please, no excuses.”
“Okay, ma.” Shawn replied.
“Good boy.” She said and pecked his forehead before walking out of the office, leaving Shawn to stare at her in surprise.
Just then, his phone rang and he sighed when he saw his mother as the caller. “Hey, mum.” He greeted
“Shawn dear, how are you doing?” His mum said over the phone.
“I’m fine, ma.” He replied.
“So, I want you and Tiffany to come have dinner with your Dad and I this evening. No excuses, Shawn.” His mum said.
“But mum, Tiffany is actually out of town for a shoot.” Shawn explained.
“I know about that and she is coming back by noon, so you both have time to prepare and be here by 7:00 pm.” His mum said.
“I see. You guys already talked. I guess we are coming, because you are definitely not taking no for an answer.” Shawn said, in surrender.
“No, darling. I don’t take no for an answer. I will prepare your favorite dish and please come with a bottle of wine.” his Mum said.
They did a little bit of catching up after which Shawn ended the call.
So, she was coming back by noon and was already aware of the dinner with his mother and father.
He decided to push thoughts of her away and concentrate on his work. Few minutes after working, his thoughts were still straying.
He was bothered about what to wear, and after much deliberation, decided to order a new suit from an online men’s store. He asked that the suit be delivered to the company.
After that, he immersed himself completely in work and only stopped working around 4:00pm when he got notified that the logistics distributor was outside the company’s gate.
He walked outside, signed the necessary documents and took the suit. He planned on preparing from the penthouse and going to his parents place from there. Tiffany could find her way, she was not a kid after all.
He was still trying to finish up some paperworks when Rachel came in. “What did you order?” She asked excitedly.
“Cant you stay in your office and mind your business, even for just one day, Rachel?” Shawn asked.
“I’m afraid I can’t especially when it concerns you, my best friend.” Rachel said, pouting.
“You are no longer eight, so stop keeping that face.” Shawn said.
“I will, only if you tell me what you ordered.” Rachel persisted.
“Fine. It’s a suit. I got a suit.” Shawn finally said.
“A suit? What happened to all the ones you have? I can bet you have not worn half of them.” Rachel asked.
“My mother invited Tiffany and I to dinner tonight, so that’s what the suit is for. Plus, I will be leaving from here and I was also at a loss on what to wear.” Shawn explained.
“At a loss to wear or you want to impress the little girl? Because, the suit you are putting on is more than befitting to wear to dinner with your parents.” Rachel said.
“I just told you my reasons. If you choose to assume then it’s not on me.” Shawn said, shrugging his shoulders.
“You know, I’m not assuming but telling the truth. You want to impress her.” Rachel insisted.
“Rachel, please go back to work.” Shawn said.
“Oh, Okay. It’s closing time already.” Rachel said, and stood up to leave.
“Bye.” Shawn said and bid her goodbye.
After she left, he hurriedly finished up and took his suit up to the penthouse to dress up.
After dressing he decided to text Tiffany. “Be ready by 6. I will be coming to pick you up ” He typed and sent. He knew if they arrived at his parents’ place separately, they would rather have his head for dinner than the main food.
She checked the time, it was past five, he picked up his car keys and headed out. By the time he must have gotten to the house, it would be six.
The company was empty apart from the cleaners and security. He got into his car and drove to the house.
He soon arrived, and honked so Tiffany would come out. He didn’t intend on going inside.
He didn’t have to wait for long because a few minutes later, Tiffany stepped looking like a fallen angel, and his jaws dropped in astonishment.
He was glad he was inside the car, so she could not see his facial expression as she walked towards the car. She looked like a Celestial being in her white velvet gown, as that was the only word he could use to describe her.
Her hairdo was different. The shoot he suspected, but who cares? Because the hair made her look even prettier.
“Hi, she said as she got into the back seat of the car.
‘”Hi.” He replied, taking on a serious tone.
And without sparing her as much as a glance, he drove away.
TIFFANY’S POV
She was resting in her hotel room in preparation for her return home when her phone rang and she saw the caller was Mrs Gold, Shawn’s mother.
“Hello, ma.” She greeted.
“Hello, Darling. First of all, congratulations on emerging as the winner of Vancouver’s international spelling bee competition.” Mrs Gold said, excitedly.
“Thank you so much, Ma.” Tiffany replied.
“You are welcome, dear. In commemoration of that, I want you and Shawn to come over for dinner.” Mrs Gold announced.
“That’s so nice of you, Ma. But I’m currently in Burnaby for a commercial shoot for an advert.” Tiffany said.
“Oh, dear. When are you coming back?” Mrs Gold asked, a hint of disappointment in her tone.
“By noon, Ma.” She replied.
“Perfect! You can make it then. The dinner is by 6:00 pm. I would really love to have you and Shawn.” Mrs Gold said.
“That’s fine, Ma. I will be there. Have you informed, Shawn?” Tiffany asked.
“Oh, as soon as I get off the phone with you. Thank you for accepting to come.” Mrs Gold said, happily.
“It’s a pleasure, Ma. I guess I will see you at six.” Tiffany said.
“Oh, yes. See you.” Mrs Gold said, before ending the call.
Tiffany heaved a sigh as she thought of having dinner with Shawn and his family.
Not feeling sleepy anymore, she got off the bed and began parking her things.
She doesn’t know why, but she was anticipating the dinner and as much as it irked her, she couldn’t wait to see Shawn.
