Chapter Fifty Eight
The new maid
Amanda’s POV
One month later
I walked slowly to the Alpha’s Quarters. I didn’t expect to be made his new personal maid. It’s no news that the alpha’s nightmares were back. Everyone tried to help nothing was working. So he requested for a new maid. I felt sad for him. He was suffering but his real mate was going in and out of the pack with his rival.
I took in a deep breath as I stopped in front of the door to his room. “Get it together Amanda, just express your gratitude and get out of there” I muttered. I knocked on the door and waited. Then came silence. I knocked again. This time louder than the last time.
I waited but no one answered. My nerves and lack of patience was driving me crazy. I jerked the door and it gave way. My eyes widened. It was open all these while? I pushed the door slightly open. Enough for me to peek my head in. I saw nothing. Then slowly but quietly I opened the door.
“Your highness?” I called out to him but no reply came. I checked all the rooms but no one was there. Oh better, at least I can work in silence. I began to clean the room. Picking clothes that were lying on the floor and the chair. I turned to dress the bed, I stopped short. No one had been in it. At least that was what I could deduce from this. I looked around. Everywhere in the room signified that someone had been in it aside the bed.
“Maybe he likes to make his bed himself” I muttered while patting away a crease on the bed.
“Do you like your new job?” I jumped.
“Your highness, you scared me” I clutched my chest as I stared at him.
“I’m sorry.” He gave a tight smile that didn’t reach his eyes. Now what did that mean? “Why are you all jumpy, do you still suffer tray-”
“No your highness, I ‘m completely alright” I gave the brightest smile I could muster.
“You sure?” he asked again as he took a step
towards me.
“Yes your highness, I’m fine” my smile still intact on my face. He stared at me like he didn’t believe a single word I had said. I was about to continue explaining when he changed the topic.
“Do you like your Job?” he said this time. A smile curved on his face. I bowed a little.
“Yes your highness” I said smiling. “It’s nice”
“Nice?” he raised an eyebrow that smile still on his face.
“Yes… no I mean… yes it’s not nice, it’s great” I said smiling.
“Better. It’s so that I can sleep” he said more to himself . I didn’t know what to think. He looked vulnerable.
“So get used to everything here and if you have any more questions, you can ask me”
“Sure… I mean yes your highness’ I smiled. He took one more look at me. And with that he left his room. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.
What was all that smiling all about?
I quickly packed all his clothes and loaded it in the cart for washing. After making sure that his room was spick and span, I walked out and set out for the laundry room.
There were a lot of maids washing and then I remembered that today was laundry day.
“Hi girls” I waved at them.
“Amanda!” they waved back. They began to quiz me on what it felt like to be the personal maid of the Alpha.
“Come on girls, I just started today. I don’t think I have anything to say.” I chuckled.
“Amanda aren’t you so lucky. The alpha want you. They would do anything to have you” before I could reply another began to speak.
“Alpha Chase is a bad alpha, Amanda is right not to read to him”
“I don’t care, as far as he wants her. If it were me, I would go with one of them.”
“She has chosen side already! It’s with Alpha Chase” another interjected. At that point I knew I had to remind them I was here.
“Hi guys I’m still here” I waved my hands. They laughed and we continued our washing. Suddenly a maid came into the laundry room.
“Amanda I don’t think it’s a nice idea to wash the Alpha’s clothes in the same room as us” she scowled and went to take a seat.
“Mind your freaking business!” I said harshly at her. She stared at me. A smug expression on her face. I continued washing but I was pissed. Who did she think she was? I knew that the alpha’s suite had a laundry room but I wanted to wash here. Staying there could be lonely and that was not what I was ready to face.
“Don’t you know her? That’s shelly, she was the former personal maid to the Alpha before hos mate appeared, one of the maids said to me.
“I don’t care” I snapped.
| suddenly heard a snort coming from the girl that had come in.
“You find anything funny?” I glared at her.
“Oh its nothing. I just wonder how you were chosen as the Alpha’s personal maid when you don’t follow rules or anything about the Alpha” I closed my eyes for a brief second and continued washing.
Anger surged through me. I wanted to tell them all I have known since I knew Chase but I couldn’t telling would be some sort of betrayal.
“Do you know that the Alpha has a sleep disorder, everyone knows about this” one of the maids tapped me.
“Really?”
She nodded. ” Yes, I heard you will read to him too”
I wanted to know why Chase never slept at night and was ready to do anything to help. Anything at all.
That night I wrapped my clothes and moved into my new room. Then I packed all my books.
I smirked as I thought of the lengths I would go to help the Alpha. This was my new mission.
