Arya’s POV
“Did you breathe while he kissed you?” Kelsi asked me as she smiled goofily. I frowned. It had been a week since that party but Kelsi swore to never stop talking about it.
“Kelsi for the last time, stop asking me questions like that, unless you want me to punch you?” I began unpacking my books even though they packed.
She scowled at me. “I don’t know if you understood what happened that night” she stood and smiled at a picture of Chase on a card
“Since then, people have not stopped talking about the kiss. It went viral. I mean everyone said that you guys should be dating” she grabbed me and puckered her lips towards me with her eyes shut. I gently shoved her away. “After all he is your mate”
“What are you high on Kelsi” I chuckled. “Yes he marked me but he doesn’t have my heart.
“Oh that kiss, gosh I wish someone can kiss me like that. It was so magical” she said. I rolled my eyes as she embarked on talking about that kiss scene again.
“I’m off to Chamberlin’s room” I said as I left the room. As I walked towards the staircase, I was not oblivious of the many number of eyes on me. The news of that kiss blazed like a wild fire. Aside from being a little celebrity in the palace I also got myself some hostile stares from girls. High ranking ladies of the black moon pack. Especially the ones, that thought they had a chance with Chase. It wasn’t my fault the bottle spun in my direction.
Speaking of Chase, I haven’t seen him since that party. Okay I am lying. I wanted to see him. The way he kissed me. Damn! I could feel goose pimples on my arm as I walked. I shook my head as if to shake that thought away. I needed to focus. Chamberlin’s birthday would be soon. I need to prepare for it.
Anna and Kelsi came to my room the next day. She had on her face a smile.
“Anna please will you wipe that look off your face” I said. Anna was a friend Kelsi had made at the bon-fire. She was the daughter of the palace cook. She was cool and was naughty like Kelsi, and that made her my friend too.
“Come on, who knew that you and Chase had it in you” she said. “The palace is hosting a transition after party, will you attend?”
“Yes” Kelsi immediately replied. I laughed.
“Will Chase be coming?” I asked. They replied me with a teasing smile. “Do you want him to come?” they chorused. We burst into laughter. “Come on I was just asking an innocent question” they exchanged looks and began to laugh.
I and Kelsi meet with Anna and the others at the party. Angus told made us join the alpha’s side in the VIP section upstairs.
“Are you taking that?” Anna asked I shook my head slowly and she grabbed my drink. I turned to Kelsi
“Her boyfriend broke up with her” Kelsi mouthed and I nodded. I have been there and don’t want to go back there either. 30 minutes in, Chase and his other group of friends were yet to arrive. It was beginning to get boring. I listened to Kelsi bore me with stories about her dog, named either Cecelia or Priscilla. I didn’t know which.
When I couldn’t fake the laughs and smile any longer for fear that my mouth would split into two, the main character appeared. I looked up and I ducked. There was Chase and his friends.
“Chase why are you late?” Mika asked.
“What took you so long?” a lady that kept shooting daggers at me asked.
“Sorry guys” he smiled. Then he smirked when he spotted me. What was that about?
And just like that, everywhere livened up. The sexual tension rose dramatically, at his arrival. Some other joined us. The girls talked differently, ate differently. They were now more self-conscious. I count not but notice
“Do you see that he is staring at you?” Kelsi whispered into my ears. I turned around and it was true. I blushed.
“He has a girlfriend Kelsi” I said eyes wide. After a while of trying to evade Chase’s eyes, I decided to use the bathroom.
“I’m coming I need to use the bathroom” I excused myself and walked out.
******************************
I grabbed a paper towel and wiped my hands clean. As I was leaving the bathroom, someone dragged me and before I could scream, they was a hand on my mouth. Panic rose in my throat.
“It’s me Arya” I froze. I knew that voice. I turned and was absolutely correct. It was Chase.
“You scared me” I said in a small voice.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to” he smiled. Oh dear, he was much more good looking up close.
“You didn’t call me?” he smirked. He seemed to be doing that a lot.
“Call you? I don’t have your number” I said looking at everywhere but at his face. I vaguely remembered him mouthing call me before we left the bon-fire.
“Wait” he took out his phone and dialed my number. It rang. My eyes widened as I saw, that his name was already saved on my phone. How was that?
He watched and began to smile. “Do you not remember Isla?” and I shook my head.
“What… oh … About that kiss…” he looked at me and I looked away.
“I know it was just a game” I said. What was Chase trying to do? He has a girlfriend already.
“Are you sure?” he asked. I looked up at him. “Yes”
“Why don’t I check?” he asked. I raised my head defiantly. “Check that I don’t have feelings for you?” my heart rate increased.
“Yes” he said and took one step forward and as much as I wanted to stand, I took one back. A lazy smile appeared on his face. “See” he said.
“Chase I don’t have feelings for you” my chest rose and fell.
“Then prove it” he said. My eyes were the size of a watermelon. He began to laugh.
“Just kidding.” He laughed and walked away.
What was that about?
But I would not deny the many butterflies in my tummy. I briefly closed my eyes and sighed. It was clear now.
