CHAPTER 56

KATE ROMANS
Gaining entrance into Pietro Giacometti’s home was really a tough one. I had pulled all the cards I could pull but it wasn’t working.
The only way that worked was me coming here under the guise of the daughter of one of his businessmen who was supposed to negotiate business with him.
Yet, even that had not been easy or smooth going. Pietro Giacometti had insisted that he didn’t want a meetup in his home or even in his office, except with the businessman himself.
It had been hard but the businessman had eventually convinced Pietro Giacometti to let me talk business with him.
I didn’t mind where it would be though. Home or his office. I just had to see this Pietro Giacometti and talk to him. Ask him about Dylan and ask him to release Dylan to me.
I rubbed my palms together, taking another look around the living room where I was waiting for Pietro Giacometti.
It was gorgeous and every inch of the place was luxury. A luxury I could not afford even if I worked harder with Dylan.
After waiting about five more minutes, I was starting to get irritated. If I was truly the daughter of this businessman, would this man, Pietro Giacometti, leave me here for long minutes without a care?
He probably would, though.
I sighed and got onto my feet, deciding to walk around the living room a little. Perhaps I could find something that would actually help me talk to this man or better still, perhaps I could find something that would bring such a powerful man down to his knees; something I could threaten him with.
I walked around the living room carefully, letting my eyes capture even the tiniest detail as I walked past. But I couldn’t actually seem to find anything suspicious.
Would a man like him put something incriminating or something that can bring him down in his living room?
You could never tell, though.
“Good day?” I heard a soft, feminine voice behind me.
A voice that sounded so familiar but a voice I also couldn’t immediately put a name to.
I had my back turned to the owner of the voice and gig the next few seconds, I remained that way.
“Are you here to see Pietro?” The voice came again, this time with footsteps approaching me.
I turned around on my heel and was beyond surprised to see who it was in front of me.
Caily Galileo!
The darned EX girlfriend of Dylan!
What the hell was she doing here?
She looked equally shocked to see me too and for about a period of three seconds, the both of us just stared at each other.
“Kate.” She spoke up first.
“Caily” I called her name and looked around the place.
I was definitely in Pietro Giacometti’s home. What in the world would Caily, this silly woman be doing here?
“What are you doing here?” The question was thrown by the both of us in a chorus.
“You… What are you doing here?” I asked the question again.
“I…” Caily didn’t seem to have a valid response to that question.
Could she have been involved in Dylan’s abduction?
Nah! Caily Galileo was not one who could do such. She was too tender, too innocent, too gentle to do anything related to that.
“What about you? What are you here for?” She threw the question back at me and I could not help but be glad that I was dressed in this corporate dress.
“I am here to meet Mr. Giacometti on a business talk. I am representing my company.” I smiled at her.
“Oh, I see. That’s… That’s good, I guess. Well,…” She tucked her hair behind her back, obviously fidgeting.
She definitely could not tell me she was here for a business talk too. Not with her dressed in a loose dress and her hair packed in a loose bun.
She looked like she was in her home, like she belonged right here.
“Have you seen Dylan lately? Or heard from him?” I decided to ask her a more important question.
“Dylan? No, I haven’t heard from him lately. We broke up, I am sure he told you about it.”
“Oh yes, he did. But you know this isn’t the first time you both are breaking up so I was just wondering. I have been trying to reach him for a few days but I totally can’t reach him. And he has not been at his home or at his workplace either. It’s like he has just vanished from the world. I am just… Just hoping he is not in danger” I said with a sigh a d studied her expression to determine if she knew about this abduction or not.
She didn’t.
It was that look of genuine worry about Dylan.
“I… I had no idea about this…” She stuttered, her eyes blinking.
“I will call him and try to… I will definitely try to reach out to him.”
“Alright. Please do let me know when you get across to him”
“Definitely. I will definitely let you know.”
“So tell me, what is it that you are doing here? You look quite comfortable here.” I pointed out and she seemed to run out of words once again.
Her lips parted to speak but the entrance of a man in the living room made her lips shut back. I felt fear strike my heart at the entrance of this man and I needed no one to tell me who he was.
That was definitely Pietro Giacometti.
Instantly, I could understand why my informant had told me to let this go and in this moment, I felt a part of me scream that this was all folly and I should have just stayed back, out of trouble and let Dylan deal with his own fate.
‘Kate!’ I yelled at myself mentally and pulled myself together.
This isn’t folly. And I was never going to leave Dylan to deal with his fate alone.
“Peaches,” He stopped by Caily and a hand moved to her face, cupping her face so tenderly, a complete contrast of the way he had looked at me earlier.
“Go to your room. I will attend to this business.”
“Al… Alright.” Caily walked away, seemingly relieved to have escaped from having to answer the question I had asked.
“Good day, Mr. Giacometti.” I reached a hand out for a shake.
“I am a representative of….”
“Don’t give me those lies over again. You are here for Dylan.”
My head raised slightly and I pulled my extended hand back from the handshake very slowly.
“You knew?” The words dropped from my lips one after the other.
“Would be weird if I didn’t know about a soul stepping into my home.” He shrugged his shoulders almost non chalantly.
There was an air of carefreeness in his shrug but not even that diminished the deadly aura he emitted. It was getting to me too fast and I knew I had to table out my request before the aura crippled me in here.
I gulped down, made my eyes as determined as I could possibly make them in this situation and boldly tabled my request.
“Then, I’d be just direct. I am here for Dylan. Hand him over to me.”
