Jason.
The moment I heard a loud thud and a scream from the toilet. All kinds of thoughts came to my mind.
I assumed that Eve had slipped and fallen down which would most definitely cause a miscarriage since she fell down on the tiled floor. I also assumed that she must have hit her head on the floor which led to her bleeding which was why I was in the bathroom in no time but when I got there, none of these were the case.
In fact, it was nothing close to this at all.
Not only was she not bleeding or on the floor but she did not also slip and fall down.
“Eve, what’s wrong?” I asked as I looked around in fear.
I noticed that the large painting that was hanging on the wall to make it look pretty was now on the floor and the frame was broken.
I assumed that the painting was what caused a loud thud on the floor but is that what made her scream?
“I saw it!” She said in tears.
“You saw it?” I asked, confused.
“Yes, I saw a cockroach.”
“It was so big and ugly. It was flying all around so I threw my body wash at it but it landed on the painting instead.” She said as she sobbed in my arms.
I almost laughed but knowing that Eve was sensitive and laughing at what she did could cause her to be angry and the doctor strictly warned that she shouldn’t be stressed at all.
I looked around and I found the body wash on the floor and the cockroach was indeed hit by the bodywash and so it was on the floor as well.
“You killed it.” I thought but I didn’t voice it out because I feared that if I told her she killed it, she might start sobbing about killing an innocent cockroach that might have a family somewhere waiting for it to return home.
Either way, I simply smiled and she continued to stay in my embrace.
It wasn’t until a few seconds later that she disengaged from the embrace and looked at me in shock.
“Jason.” She called quietly as her large eyes seemed to grow even wider.
“You’re standing!” She screamed in joy and that’s when it dawned on me that indeed I was actually standing.
I was on my feet.
I ran to the bathroom.
I had no idea.
Infact, the moment I heard the loud thud and scream, I got up from my wheelchair on impulse and ran to the bathroom scared for Eve’s life. I feared that we just escaped danger and then she was falling into danger once more even in the comfort of our home.
This was definitely a miracle.
The most beautiful part of this moment is that despite the fact that I was now aware that I was on my feet, I wasn’t feeling weakness in them and neither did the urge to sit down get to me.
I’ve watched countless movies where once a person in a wheelchair tries to walk for the first time or the person walks on impulse, the moment they realise that which they are doing, they fall back on the floor or on the chair. I really don’t know how to explain but right now, I’m not feeling that way. Instead, I could feel my legs properly.
I moved towards Eve who was now a bit further away due to the shock and the fact that she wanted to observe me.
“Oh my goodness.” I said in Glee.
Soon I heard running footsteps and I could see everybody in our personal bathroom.
They failed to notice that I was on my feet because of the mess on the floor.
“Is anything the matter?”
“Are you both alright?”
“Why did you scream?”
“Are you injured?”
The four of them asked at the same time.
I knew Max was in the house but I didn’t know that Ethan was already here to pick him up.
It wasn’t until a minute had passed that they finally took notice of the miracle in front of them.
“Jason.” Mom said breathlessly.
I’m sure she’s in shock because we all are.
“You’re standing!” Mom said happily.
“No!” I yelled happily.
“I’m walking!” I said walking towards them and everyone had smiles on their faces.
Even up until few days ago when the doctor came to check up on me, he still couldn’t say when I would start to feel something in my legs and be able to use clutched instead of wheelchair but instead of any of them, right now, I was on my two feet and this was the greatest miracle ever.
I thought Eve waking up when the doctors said she wouldn’t was a miracle but standing up and walking around even after being told that I wouldn’t be able to was clearly a bigger miracle.
Would it be safe to say that I have the devil’s luck on my side?
“Oh my goodness, I have to call the doctor.” Mom said happily.
“Call my doctor!”
“Call my lawyer!”
“Call a priest!”
“Call the press!” I yelled happily.
“Stop exaggerating boy.” Grandma Nini said but I could tell that she was very happy for me.
And although we were all currently screaming in the bathroom like fools, it was a joyful moment for me.
“Let’s go to the living room.” Eve suggested and we all did that.
I refused to sit down but was pacing up and down until the doctor got here because I feared that I might not be able to get back up if I sat down before the doctor arrived.
One of the helpers was assigned to arrange the bathroom that Eve almost destroyed due to her fear of roaches and we all waited for the doctor to arrive.
“Oh my goodness!” The doctor said in shock the moment he saw me standing when he arrived.
“You’re on your feet.” He said in shock and I smiled and nodded in response.
“I’ve never seen this in my entire life before.” He said and I smiled.
I’ve also never heard this before in my life.
If anything, I’ve heard of people’s legs getting amputated when they can’t walk again but getting up in less than a month of being told that I can’t walk again?
This was definitely new and surprising and the fact that it happened directly to me was a true blessing.
The doctor asked me to sit down which I reluctantly did and then he examined my legs.
After much examination, he asked that we follow him to the hospital for more clarification since he couldn’t determine those without electronics gadgets fit for such jobs.
Ethan and Max went home while Jade came to pick Eve and I up.
Eve insisted on following me to the hospital for further check up. While Mom and grandma Nini agreed to stay home and wait for us to return with happy results.
I couldn’t deny that I was really excited to know that I can walk again.
Because now most of the things I couldn’t do before, I’ll be able to do it perfectly well.
Starting from dealing with the press, reshuffling the board of directors who are threatening to demote me due to the accident I was involved in and also spending more intimate time with Eve.
