Chapter 110

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Jason.
As I sat down in the garden with Eve and the cool breeze blew against our skin, I couldn’t help but think about something I read in a book a few years back.
In quotes, it says:
An object need not be large to have great mass.
Technically, Eve isn’t relatively tall and neither was she from a rich household and yet a girl like her is as tiny as a violet. A girl drifting in the sky like the petals of a flower drew me to her with a force greater than one exerted by the earth. And in a single moment, I had fallen for her and rolled towards her without rhyme or reason just as Newton’s apple did with a thump.
My heart bounced from heavens to the earth in a dizzying pendular motion and I knew that I had fallen in love with her, and hard. And She is no other person than Eve. And as far as I know, she’s my first love and will remain that.
And we sat there, I couldn’t help but think about all the lovely moments that I had fallen in love with her.
I could even imagine what our future would be.
Instead of a cliche proposal like Ethan’s, I imagined that I would buy her a necklace with a comb shaped pendant as a significance of my love for her.
After all, a comb is in the shape of a half moon which means that you want someone to be your better half.
And the one thing I want the most in my life is for her to be my better half.
I would love her helplessly and hopelessly and my thoughts felt as though I was watching a heart fluttering rom-com.
But at that moment, my visit to the police station earlier crossed my mind.
And here comes a time when a simple problem unexpectedly becomes the most difficult one.
Right now I am caught between a rock and a hard place and I can neither go forward nor go back.
A simple case of Sophie trying to kill Eve out of spite escalated to something big and yet I didn’t know how to deal with it.
Not yet.
The more I thought about it, the more confused I got. I have never felt so lost before.
I don’t think I know what to do.
I am so furious and I have no one to vent his anger on.
I believe Alice and Mark are behind this but there’s nothing to trace to them. And Sophie is refusing to talk although she doesn’t know about her brother’s death yet.
However, I did feel betrayed by Alice.
We might have not had anything special going on but before we were fuck buddies, we were friends.
Why is she trying to destroy my happiness?
I didn’t even know when tears dropped from my eyes.
When Alice first threatened to destroy my happiness with Eve, I was willing to forgive her but she overdid it and I almost lost Eve.
The pain I felt then was so immense that I thought I was going to die before Eve woke up.
Time doesn’t heal the pain as they say, one only learns to live with it.
And what have I been doing?
Learning to cope with that grief because after all, Eve still woke up from that coma.
And I didn’t lose anyone dear to me again.
But right now, I don’t care if Alice and Mark are in one league, I’m going to wipe them out if they try to mess with my family again.
I felt tears drop down my face even more and Eve’s voice jolted me out of my reverie.
“Are you crying?” She asked, confused by the sniffles she heard.
“No” I lied.
“I’m just yawning.” I said pretending to yawn.
“Okay, let’s go inside.”
“I’m cold.” She said getting up and pulling me by my hands that were in hers.
We entered into the house and that’s when we noticed that Ethan and Max had retired to the guest room they were going to stay for the night.
Well, they have a lot to talk about after all.
Knowing max, I bet he wants a better proposal.
“Eve, can you go upstairs first?” I asked and she raised her brows.
“I need to talk to someone on the phone real quick.” I said quietly and she nodded before disappearing up the stairs to our shared room.
And then I took out my phone and dialled detective Dave’s number.
“Hello.” Detective Dave’s voice sounded like she was sleeping.
“Did I call at the wrong time?” I asked.
“No, it’s alright, go on.” Detective Dave urged him.
“Is there a way I can figure out what was going on somewhere?” I asked.
“Are you saying you want to plant someone or a tracker or a recorder?” Detective Dave asked.
“Can I do all three?” I asked.
“That’s illegal.” Detective Dave said.
“Why should I do something legal when they aren’t going by the book either?” I snapped.
“Mr Coleman, I understand you are flustered by what you witnessed today but you can’t do such a thing.” Detective Dave explained.
“And you’re asking no other person than a detective to do an illegal job for you.” Detective Dave said.
“It’s not illegal, I thought there was something called a fake investigation or what’s it called?” I said with furrowed brows.
“I understand, I know what you are talking about.” Detective Dave said.
“Can you explain to me in detail?” She asked.
I explained my ideas to her and she sighed.
“So you are saying you want us to spy on either of them right?” Detective Dave said.
“To know if they’re planning something else?” Detective Dave asked.
“Yes.” I said affirmatively.
“What has that got to do with the case I showed you today?” Detective Dave asked.
“I’m telling you it’s connected.” I snapped.
“You are rich, you could just hire a professional to do this, why would you ask a detective?” Detective Dave and it sounded very logical.
“You’re right, I’ll do just that.” I said.
“No! No!, You’re already doing the right thing.” She said flustered by my reply.
“I’m only trying to protect my family.” I said quietly.
“Alright, I’ll do my best and get back to you.” Detective Dave said.
“Alright.” I said hanging up.
And then, I stayed at the dinning, lost in thought for a short while until I heard a creaking sound coming from the stairs.
“You’re still up? ” I asked when I saw Eve walking into the dinning.
“Why are you not coming to bed?” Eve asked.
“I didn’t want to disturb you with my call.” I said quietly.
And Eve chuckled.
“Well, come and sleep, it’s too late to be talking to anyone right now.” She scolded me and I laughed.
“You’re so cute when you’re upset.” I teased.
“Well, I’m that beautiful.” She teased back..
“You are always beautiful.” I said and she blushed.
“Well, it’s already past twelve.” She said pointing at the wall clock.
“One would think you’re going out now judging by how well dressed you are, or are you planning to go out again” she asked jokingly
“Yeah, I’m going to the club.” I joked and she laughed.
Then we both got up from the chair and retired for the night.
Although a lot was still lingering on my mind.
As we both laid on the bed, Eve moved closer and hugged me.
“What’s with this reaction?” I asked bemused.
“Let’s fall asleep in each other’s arms.” Eve said.
“Okay.” I agreed immediately.
Truthfully, I needed a hug right now so I wasn’t going to let go either.
“Everyone has their own storm.” Eve said.
“What?” I asked unsure of what she was saying to me
“You don’t need to resent or hate the Storm you’re in, all storms are bound to recede.” She said quietly.
“What are you talking about?” I asked still confused.
Eve pulled away slightly so we could see each other’s face.
“If you have someone by your side when you’re going through a storm, wouldn’t you feel safer?” Eve asked.
I smiled as I could understand her now.
“I wish that someone could be me.” Eve said, looking into my eyes.
“I feel safe around you.” I said pecking her on her lips and she smiled.
“I love you.” I whispered.
“I love you more.” She said,
“Well, that’s up for debate.” I teased and she laughed loudly and hugged me once more.
I feel much lighter now.
Although I knew that it wasn’t over yet and maybe, just maybe Alice was plotting something else against Eve and I but I’m ready for it.
A Spanish proverb says: One too many sunny days will result in a desert.
Which means that I can’t always have happy days. Sometimes, I’ll face gloomy and rainy days but those too shall pass.
