Jason..
We all sat down on the chairs placed in front of the ward.
I couldn’t bring myself to go inside and face her.
I felt like a failure.
All sorts of things were running through my head.
If I had brought Eve earlier to the hospital and we found out that she’s pregnant, how would she have reacted to it?
Would she be happy to be carrying my child or is it too early for us to have a child together?
We would have gone for ultrasound and scan to check the baby and the OB-GYN would say something like – your baby is currently the size of a gummy bear and we would laugh about it.
We could even come up with a foetus name and then we’ll host a party to announce to the world that we’re going to be parents.
And then in a few months, we’ll do a gender reveal party and then later on, we’ll welcome our baby to the world but now that all this has happened, I’m not sure what the future holds for us.
For me…
What does the future hold for me when Eve is my future?
Earlier, when I asked the doctor what would happen if Eve doesn’t wake up before the time of the delivery, I was given the worst news to ever be received.
Flashback..
“Doctor, if Eve doesn’t wake up in a few months and the baby keeps growing, what will happen?” I asked and he furrowed his brows in confusion.
“I don’t understand you.” He said quietly.
“If my wife doesn’t wake up when it’s time for the delivery, what will happen then?” I asked again.
“Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.” The doctor said,
“And if it does?” I said in a whisper because I feared that if I said it out loud, it might come to pass.
“Then..”
“You’ll have to pick.” He said quietly.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked, unsure of what he was trying to say.
“You will have to pick between your wife and the baby.” The doctor said breaking my heart even further.
“Why?” I croaked.
“If she’s unconscious, the baby will face more complications.” The doctor said,
“So you’re saying that she can’t be operated on?” I asked in a broken voice.
“She can be operated on but it will be risky and I can’t guarantee that both lives will be saved.” The doctor said,
I felt tears trickle down my face and I quickly wiped it off.
“Let’s hope that she wakes up, keep praying, a miracle can happen.” The doctor said and I managed a smile.
“Can I go now?” I asked after a brief moment of silence and he nodded in response.
Flashback ends.
A miracle?
I guess I’ll have to wait for a miracle.
Funny, isn’t it?
The tears were starting to spill once more and I was already a crying mess one again.
I felt like my heart was being shattered into pieces. Pieces that can’t ever be placed back together.
“Oh Eve!” I mumbled under my breath as I continued to sob.
I wasn’t even ready to be consoled. Even as mom and grandma Nini said a few things to me, I’m not even sure if I was listening to whatever they were saying.
I got up from where I sat and walked away from everyone. I need some alone time Alone.
I saw a door with the inscription – emergency staircase exit and I entered inside.
It reminded me of that Party where Eve disappeared only for me to find out that she was with Kendall the whole time.
I was so jealous and pissed off that I yelled at her.
I don’t even know why I was so jealous even when I knew Kendall was gay and not attracted to women.
I chuckled quietly.
I walked down the stairs and sat down on the steps. I looked down at the floor like something interesting was happening there.
Eve deserves someone better. She’s in this mess because of me.
I heard the clanking of heels coming from below.
It became clearer until I saw a pair of black heels in front of me.
I raised my head to look at the person standing in front of me and it was Alice.
The person I really didn’t want to see right now.
“I heard your girl toy is dying so I came to pay my respect.” She said, giggling which made me furious.
“She’s my wife and she’s not dying.” I said coldly and I looked away from her.
“Whatever.” She shrugged.
“I didn’t even scare her that much, just a few things and she went ahead to kill herself.” Alice mumbled but I heard it anyway.
I got up from where I sat down and went down the stairs to stand right in front of her.
“What did you just say?” I asked sternly.
“I didn’t say anything.” She lied, shocked that I even heard what she was mumbling.
“You said you were the one who scared her. Did you push Eve down the stairs?” I asked moving closer to her until her back was touching the transparent glass walls.
“I didn’t push her down the stairs.” She mumbled in fear.
I grabbed her wrist and squeezed it.
“Stop..” she croaked out.
“What did you do to Eve?” I asked angrily.
“I didn’t do anything to her, stop it, you’re hurting me!” She yelled but I was blinded by rage and I gripped her wrist with more force.
“I promise you, if you had something to do with Eve’s fall, then I’ll make you pay.” I said before letting go of her wrist and moving away from her.
“You.. h-hurt m-me b-because of that tramp?” She stuttered as tears dripped down her face.
“I would destroy the world for her if I can.” I said coldly.
“What does she have that I don’t?” She yelled so loudly that it echoed throughout the whole staircase.
“It’s not about what she has, it’s about who I love.”
“She doesn’t need to have anything before I can love her.” I said in a cold tone and walked up the stairs.
I stopped halfway and turned to face her.
“Stay away from me and my family Alice, we have no business together.” I said before leaving the room but not without slamming the door behind me.
If Alice is truly the one behind Eve’s fall, I promise to make her pay.
