Chapter 25

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Jason..
“Should I get you a cup of coffee?” Patricia, my secretary asked as she saw the state I was in.
“No!” I said and she scurried away before I relished my wrath upon her. I don’t know why I am so bothered about Eve.
No! Let me rephrase that. I’m not bothered about Eve, I’m bothered about going about and smearing my name in the mud.
I checked my phone and glanced at the message she had sent me earlier about the location of where she was hanging out with her so-called gay friend.
I checked the location on the GPS and it appeared to be stable. Does she know how to ride a horse?
Would she be riding a horse with that said Max?
My mind drifted off to an illusion of what they could be doing at the horse stables.
“This is my horse sapphire..” Max would say and Eve would giggle.
“He’s quite rough but I got the hang of it. Should I ride it so I can show you?” Max would say and wink.
“Ride it, be as rough as you can be.” Eve would say seductively.
I waved off the foolish thought that was in my head. I can’t believe I just had a conversation with myself about Eve flirting with her best friend. I had to get to that stable and now.
I got up from my swivel chair and walked out of my office.
“Sir, are you heading somewhere?” Clinton asked as he was just outside my office about to knock.
“Yes, clear my schedule for today.” I said to Clinton.
“Should I drive you?” Clinton asked and I shook my head.
“I can go by myself.” I said walking away. I took the elevator and went straight to my car. I inputted the location in the GPS and off I drove to the said place.
I parked my car and quickly scrambled out of my seat to the ground and ran into the stables. I couldn’t understand why I was so restless but I couldn’t help it either.
I looked into each and every room until I saw Eve in the embrace of another man. He looked oddly familiar but my eyes were fixated on Eve who seemed to be in a daze as she stayed in his arms.
My frown deepened and I felt a pang in my chest. What kind of married woman behaves like this? An affair in broad daylight. So preposterous!
I quickly walked out of that place so I wouldn’t be caught but the next room I entered in the process of my escape wasn’t much better.
Is today makeout day? I thought as I stared at the two people who were almost devouring each other.
They quickly disengaged from what they were doing and looked at me. I looked at one whom I found familiar, I met him the other day with Eve so that means this person is the Max she always talked about. His buttons were opened and there were hickeys all over his neck that I assumed was made by the other unknown person who was also staring at me. His hair was dishevelled and they both looked annoying and I stared at them with a frown still on my face.
“Aren’t you Jason?” Max finally spoke up and I nodded.
“Do you know him?” The unknown guy asked and he nodded.
“This is Eve’s husband.” He introduced me to the other guy.
“Hi, I’m Ethan.” The other guy introduced himself and I nodded acknowledging him as well.
“Speaking of Eve, where is she anyways?” Ethan asked and I scoffed.
“In another man’s embrace.” I mumbled but they didn’t hear me as they were too preoccupied on trying to fix their clothes. We arrived at the court and met Eve coming with the other man whom I still couldn’t recognize but I knew he looked very much familiar.
“Jason..” Eve said with a shocked look on her face and my frown deepened.
“What are you doing here?” She asked.
“Is it bad if one’s husband comes to look for his wife?” I asked, smirking as I pulled her to my embrace.
“I’m sorry for declining your offer to come horse riding this morning with you.” I said lovingly and smirked at the said man whose smile faltered the moment I said I was Eve’s husband.
“Declining my offer?” Eve said in confusion and I gave her a tight smile meaning that she should shut up and play along.
“Eve, you didn’t tell me that’s why you’ve been sulking all day.” Max said, nudging her shoulders.
Eve blushed and I let her out of my embrace.
“Why don’t we all sit down and have a cup of coffee?” I said and Max agreed immediately while Eve seemed as though she was in her own world not saying anything.
“I’ll just grab my coat.” Ethan said winking and Max blushed.
“Bye Mark.” Eve waved at the said man when she jolted out of her reverie.
“Mark..” The name sounded familiar but I couldn’t pinpoint where I had heard the name from. I dragged Eve out of there and Max giggled as he followed us out.
Soon we were out of the stables and at the car park.
“Why don’t we meet up at the coffee place?”
“There’s one not too far from here so you guys can go ahead and get us a seat.” Max said.
“I’m waiting for Ethan, we’ll catch up with you.” Max said to Eve and she nodded.
I opened the car door and entered inside and waited for Eve to enter the car as well. When she was in, I checked for the closest cafe around and put it in the GPS and began to drive.
We drove in silence and after a while we arrived at the place. I parked the car but kept the door locked so that Eve couldn’t get out.
“Did you have fun in another man’s embrace?” I asked in a cold tone.
“What do you mean?” Eve asked and I scoffed.
“Don’t play innocent with me, Eve.” I warned.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She deadpanned and I scoffed.
“Let me jog your memory, that man at the stables, I saw you with him.” I said and her face fell and she looked pale. I smirked as I knew it had dawned on her that I knew of her dirty affairs.
“It’s.. it’s.. you..” she stuttered.
“Cat cut your tongue?” I snapped.
“It’s a misunderstanding, he was just trying to help me.” She said quietly and I rolled my eyes. She must think I’m a fool if she thinks I’ll believe that lie.
“The best way to help someone is to hug them?” I asked sarcastically.
“No, from afar, it might seem that way but it’s not like that, I swear.” She said, sounding desperate and I frowned.
“Look Eve, I don’t care what you do but don’t you care what people would say if they saw you like that with someone else?” I said, raising my voice a bit.
“You’re a married woman, married to an important person who plays a very important role in helping the masses, the least you can do is to keep a low profile and prevent yourself from giving me a bad reputation.” I said angrily.
“It’s not like that..” Eve said with her voice quavering like she was going to cry.
“We just met today, I don’t even know him.” Eve said and I scoffed.
“Lies, so you’re in the embrace of a man you barely know?” I laughed.
“You mean you would spread your legs for a man you barely know too, not only are you a gold digger but you’re also a slut?” I said and she looked at me with an unreadable gaze.
“I said it’s not like that.” She said with gritted teeth as tears began to roll down her eyes. I wanted to say more but the moment the tears began to fall from her face, I began to feel bad for my accusations. I simply looked away and ignored her sobs.
I looked outside the window and I saw her two friends coming out of a car and I turned to face Eve.
“There are tissues in there, wipe your face, your friends are here.” I said and got out of the car.
Eve came out soon after and we approached her friends who were waiting at the entrance.
“Were you…” Max was about to say something inappropriate but I shot him a look and he kept quiet.
We entered the Cafe and went to find somewhere to sit down.
“Eve, are you alright?” I heard Max ask Eve and she nodded.
“Are you sure?” He asked and she looked away. I looked at her and I noticed her eyes were watering and she looked like she wanted to cry.
“I’m going to use the bathroom.” She said getting up and going to the bathroom before anybody could say anything.
“Is she okay?” Max asked me and I nodded.
“She might be tired, I noticed she was limping, she said she fell you know.” Ethan said to Max who still looked worried.
“She fell?” I thought. How come I didn’t notice that she was limping? It wasn’t until she came out of the bathroom and walked towards our table that I noticed she was limping. How did I not notice this?
“Waiter.” Ethan said loudly and the waiter came up to our table.
“Are you ready to order?” The waiter asked and Max nodded.
“What would you like then?” The waiter asked and Ethan spoke first.
“Iced Americano and apple pie.” Ethan said and the waiter nodded, writing it down.
“You have a cafe but you still don’t have good taste.” Max teased and I smiled.
“I’ll like my coffee black, no sugar, no cream.” I said to the waiter who jotted it down.
“Black coffee is for cold people.” Max commented and I smirked.
“Well, what can you say? I’m a cold person.” I joked and Max laughed.
“Eve, won’t you order?” Max asked and she shook her head.
“Not hungry.” She mumbled.
“You’ve been saying that all day, won’t you eat something?.” Max said in concern.
“She’ll take pineapple cake and juice.” I spoke up and they all shut me up to make me look like I said something wrong.
“What?” I asked.
“Pineapple?” Max repeated like I had said something wrong.
“Eve is allergic to fish and pineapple, didn’t you know that?” Max asked and I shook my head in embarrassment. I almost asked for something that could potentially kill someone.
“It’s fine, he forgot.” Eve said defending me and Max nodded.
“Is it possible to forget this kind of thing?” Ethan asked Max while Max tried to make him shut up.
“Max will order for me.” Eve gestured to Max and the waiter turned to face Max who smiled.
“I’ll take an iced caramel latte, double drip almond milk, no vanilla extract, six pumps of sugar, extra ice, add honey and cinnamon powder, add whipped cream too, venti.” Max said and I looked at him with wide eyes. Can he really drink that?
“Babe, can you drink all that?” Ethan asked as if he read my mind.
“Yes.” Max said blushing at the new nickname.
“For Eve, we’ll take a berry tea refresher with coconut milk and two blueberry muffins.” Max said in one go and ve clapped.
“I’m still stunned by how you remember all that stuff.” Eve commented and Max giggled.
“Thank you ” he said with a dramatic pose and we all laughed.
“How would you like to pay?” The waiter who seemed to be listening in on our conversation asked.
“Here.” I said extending my black card to the waiter who gasped once she saw it. I smirked in pride.
“Can I order more than one portion?” Max joked and we all laughed.
Soon, our drinks arrived and we began to eat but not without Max giving Eve the details of how Ethan begged him to forgive him and Ethan thanking Eve for helping them get back together.
After a while, we finished our lunch and it was time to go.
“We’re going to finish what we started.” Max whispered to Eve and she giggled.
“Bye.” I said and they both bade me goodbye and thanked me for the meal.
Eve and I got into my car and I began to drive to the hospital.
I already texted my doctor earlier so he was aware that I would be bringing Eve along. I wonder how she got injured and where she fell but from our heated conversation earlier, I was sure she wouldn’t tell me.
