Chapter 21

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Jason..
The sun shone through the window blinding my eyes.
Ugh.. I groaned.
Just who left the windows open and how many times have I warned those maids to not open my windows.
I rolled to the other side of my bed only to feel something by my side. I put my hands there only to feel someone’s body right beside me.
I shot my eyes and opened only to see Alice with dishevelled hair on my bed.
I tapped her harshly, jolting her from her beauty sleep.
“What?” She snapped.
“I should be asking you that.” I snapped back at her.
“What are you doing here?” I said in a half yell.
“What do you mean by that?”
“We came home together last night.” She said rubbing her eyes probably because she still felt sleepy.
“There’s no way and this is not your home.” I snapped.
“Jason, what’s wrong with you? It’s too early!” She said in a loud voice.
“Exactly, it’s too early. As long as I remember I’ve never asked you to come to my house. Ever!” I said angrily.
“Okay fine, you were drunk and so I brought you home.” She huffed.
“We both drank, what do you mean you brought me home?” I said remembering that she was the one who brought the congratulatory wine.
“Clinton drove.” She said quietly.
“Then why did you come here?” I said angrily.
“How many times do I have to remind you that what we have is strictly business?”
“No strings attached! You agreed to it so why are you going against it now?” I yelled.
“Fine!, I’ll leave, no need to keep yelling at me. You were drunk and I just wanted you to get home safely.” She said loudly.
“My driver can get me home safely thank you. Now leave!” I said and she got up from the bed.
She looked for her shoes and picked up her bags since she had slept in the clothes she came in yesterday. She took one look at me, huffed and left my room stomping her heels down the stairs so I could hear from the bedroom.
I groaned as I felt a splitting headache. I wasn’t a lightweight and I could definitely handle my liquor so I don’t know why two glasses of wine would make me drunk. I wondered if Alice spiked the wine for a moment but I quickly shot down that thought. Alice was troublesome and didn’t listen at times but I’m sure she would never do that to me. I got up from my bed and walked into the bathroom.
I brushed my teeth and took my bath before walking out of my room with a towel tied to my waist. I looked through my wardrobe for some clothes and when I found what I was looking for. I picked them and put them on. I was a bit late but I was sure that Clinton would have pushed by my schedule so I wasn’t bothered. I walked downstairs and went to the kitchen. I met Eve there with her back turned to me while she faced the sink.
“Eve…” I called and she turned to face me.
I noticed her cheeks were stained with tears and her eyes were puffy.
“Are you alright?” I was confused with the way she looked.
“Yes..” her voice quivered.
“Are you sure?” I asked concerned now as I noticed her sniffing.
“Yes, I’m fine.” She said a little louder this time.
“Can I get you anything?” She asked and I remembered why I had come down to the kitchen in the first place.
“No need.” I said I would go to the fridge to get an apple from it by myself.
“Aren’t you going to have breakfast?” She asked as I walked towards her to rinse the apple by the sink.
“No, I’m not hungry.” I said truthfully.
“But you..” she wanted to say but stopped herself.
“Nevermind.” She said quietly.
“Okay..” I said and my eyes went to the lunch box on the small table.
And then I remembered that I couldn’t eat the lunch she made for me because I drank with Alice.
“Don’t make lunch for me.” I said not wanting her to make another food that I’ll waste.
“I wasn’t going to.” She snapped and I frowned. Was she angry that I wasted the food?
“It’s no big deal.” I said and her eyes flashed with anger.
“Of course, it’s no big deal for you.” She mumbled but I heard her.
“I’m leaving.” I said leaving the kitchen and going to get my briefcase from the room.
I returned downstairs and found Eve still in the kitchen pouring something into the trash can.
I sighed as I walked out of the house and went straight to my car. I was still having a splitting headache so I made a mental note to visit the pharmacy or to send someone to buy me some drugs.
I drove to the office and soon arrived. I slumped on my swivel chair and my mind couldn’t help but wander to Eve. Why was she so grumpy this morning?
I didn’t eat the food so what?
I’m the one buying the foodstuffs anyways so if I wanna waste food, I can do whatever I like.
I groaned as I felt the headache hit me again. I pressed the intercom and asked Patricia to come. When she arrived, I asked her to go get some drugs for me as I wasn’t sure if I would be able to focus with the way my head was currently pounding.
She left immediately and I tried to get some work done in the meantime.
Eve…
That same morning.
I woke up feeling stiff. My whole body was hurting and I groaned in annoyance. I must have slept in an uncomfortable position. I got up and my mind went to Jason. Judging from how drunk he was, he must be having a splitting headache.
I quickly went to the kitchen to make him a hangover soup. It would be nice to have a spicy broth to clear the headache but I had forgotten all about the Sly bitch he came home with yesterday.
It wasn’t until I heard the stomping of heels coming downstairs that I remembered that she came home with Jason last night.
I silently prayed that she would just walk away without entering the kitchen but she turned on her heels and entered the kitchen.
“Ugh!” She hissed as soon as she saw me.
“What an eyesore!” She hissed as she walked to the fridge to grab a bottle of water.
She chugged down an entire bottle and threw the small plastic at me. Luckily, it landed by my side instead.
“Ughhh!” She yelled in anger.
“You think you’re special.” She scoffed.
“What?” I mumbled.
“You’re being domestic, wanting to win Jason over?” She laughed mockingly.
“Well, let me burst your bubble, he doesn’t like you, he doesn’t ever stand the sight of you.” She said rambling on.
“He hates you to the core.” She said angrily.
“You’re ugly, disgusting and poor, he only sees you as a maid.” She pointed at me with scorn.
“He even has a divorce agreement contract, I heard he even made a contract to never have sex with you.” She laughed.
“It just shows that you’re not attractive, I mean what kind of man doesn’t want to have sex with his own wife?” She said walking towards the entrance of the kitchen before turning to face me again.
“You must be delusional if you think he would ever look your way!” She snapped.
“You wanna make him food? Don’t bother, he won’t eat it.” She said pointing at the ingredients I had brought out to make the hangover soup.
“Stop making so much effort to seduce a man that already has a woman.” She said,
“He’ll never love you, he’s mine and mine alone. To him, you’re just a gold digger.” She said and turned before leaving the kitchen. I felt weak in my legs. I couldn’t believe my ears.
She just ridiculed me and said miserable things to me and I couldn’t even talk back.
Was that how Jason saw me?
A gold digger? An ugly unattractive woman?
I felt tears pooling in my eyes. I turned to face the sink and I held it for support and as tears trickled down my face. I don’t know how long I stood there crying but a voice jolted me from my sad miserable thoughts.
“Eve..” I heard Jason call my name and I turned to face him with my red eyes.
“Are you alright?” He asked, looking at me confused as to why my eyes were red.
“”Yes..” I said shakily.
“Are you sure?” He asked in concern while I sniffed.
“Yes, I’m fine.” I said loudly so he could stop acting like he was concerned about me.
“Can I get you anything?” I asked, trying to change the topic.
“No need.” He said as he walked to the fridge and took an apple from it.
“Aren’t you going to have breakfast?” I asked, thinking about the hangover soup I was going to make. If he says he was going to eat then maybe I would consider making it for him but if he says no then maybe Alice was right.
“No, I’m not hungry.” He said and I frowned.
“But you..” I wanted to tell him that he would have a headache if he didn’t take the soup or have breakfast but I stopped myself.
“Nevermind.” I said quietly. It was best I minded my business. That was what was on the contract anyways.
“Okay..” he said and I noticed that he looked at the lunch box that I gave him the day before. After emptying it and washing it the night before, I had left it on the table there in anger.
Now I was angry as I remembered that he wasted the food I made for him the day before.
“Don’t make lunch for me.” He said and I scoffed.
“I wasn’t going to.” I snapped and he frowned. Just who did he think I was? Was I really just a maid to him? Why is he so arrogant and rude? An explanation on why he didn’t eat the food and an apology would do but instead he goes ahead to say something else.
“It’s no big deal.” He said and I saw red.
“Of course, it’s no big deal for you.” I mumbled. It’s no big deal for you because you’ve never made something for someone only for it to get wasted. Your efforts have never gone to waste before, that’s why it’s no big deal for you.
“I’m leaving.” He said leaving the kitchen and going back to his room.
I scoffed as he left the kitchen. He didn’t even apologise. I took the ingredients that I had chopped to make the soup and threw them into the trash. I heard the door open and close signifying that Jason had left the house and I hissed.
I hate him so much. I went to my room and I sat on the floor. Max was so wrong. He doesn’t like me one bit. In fairytales, they still treat the woman better than the way I’m being treated. If he had a girlfriend, why did he marry me?
Isn’t he the playboy of the century? He’s a rude, arrogant jerk with a rotten personality and can barely say thank you or sorry and yet I still find myself falling for him.
What is wrong with you Eve?
Ring ring ring..
My phone rang and I looked at the caller id.
Mother…
What exactly did she want?
I picked up the call after much hesitation.
“Hello.” I said quietly.
“Eve, it’s mom.” She said and I pouted. Ofcourse I know it’s mom.
“Yeah?” I said wanting her to get straight to the point.
“Are you free today?” She asked and I paused.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“Can we meet up? It’s been a while since we met and we miss you.” She said and I frowned. After all these months?, She misses me?
I scoffed.
“I’ll come to the house.” I said giving in.
“I’ll send you the address.” She said and I raised my brows even though she couldn’t see me.
“Your husband got us an apartment.” She said and I could tell she was smiling.
“Send me the address.” I said and hung up not wanting to hear her sing praises about Jason any further. I’ve had enough of Jason for today. Maybe Alice was right, maybe I was a gold digger. After all, Jason had done so much for me and my family and while I had just been on the receiving end collecting everything just to pretend to be his wife.
After all these things I’ve gained from him, won’t I be greedy to want his love too?
