“Give it about half an hour, and he’ll start to regain consciousness,” Kael said.
“Alright, I’ll wait here for him.”
“How about eating something? I noticed you didn’t have dinner,” Kael suggested.
I had absolutely no appetite. I wanted to refuse, but before I could say a word, Kael had already walked out.
Left alone in the hospital room with Lucian, I sat next to him, staring. I never imagined we’d end up like this.
When we broke up, I thought Lucian would finally be free. He was so popular-he could have as many girlfriends as he wanted. But now, he had become a werewolf.
He was already extraordinary. Why would he need to join the ranks of werewolves? I just couldn’t understand it.
Soon, Kael returned. He had brought back some food, handing me a box of mac and cheese-he knew it was my favorite.
Yet, even with my favorite food in front of me, I couldn’t summon any appetite.
“Come on, eat something, even just a little. Your stomach won’t handle it if you skip meals,” Kael urged gently.
I took a few bites, but a heavy fullness settled in my stomach almost immediately.
“I can’t eat anymore,” I said.
Kael didn’t press me further. He reached over, took the container from my hands, and started eating the rest of my food.
His casual gesture stunned me. For some reason, I felt my ears growing warm.
“Why are you eating my leftovers?” I asked, my voice tinged with surprise.
He had his own portion, yet he chose to eat mine. To me, this felt oddly… intimate.
Kael, still eating, glanced at me and replied, “Why not? I like eating what you’ve touched-it tastes better.”
I rolled my eyes at him and turned back to Lucian. But I knew my flushed cheeks were giving me away. My entire face was burning, and I couldn’t let Kael see it.
After a while, Lucian stirred, his eyelids fluttering open. I immediately leaned closer.
“Lucian?” I called softly.
His consciousness seemed to be returning slowly. His gaze wandered before it finally focused on me.
“Seraph…” he murmured.
In that instant, I saw it-his eyes glowed faintly with a lavender hue.
From my interactions with Kael, I now understood that this phenomenon occurred when werewolves were emotionally stirred. Their eyes would light up with that strange color.
“Why did you become a werewolf?” I asked bluntly, unable to mask my anger.
I was furious. He had been perfect-there was no reason for him to change into something else. And now, as a werewolf, he had completely lost control of himself. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have hurt humans.
“You… you already know?” Lucian’s voice was low, tinged with sadness.
“To be honest, I’m deeply disappointed,” I said, staring at him with a mixture of frustration and disdain. “Why would you betray humanity and become a werewolf?”
“Because werewolves have immense power,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “Seraph, is it because I wasn’t strong enough? Is that why you’re with Kael? I thought… if I became stronger, I’d finally be worthy of you.”
“So you’re telling me you became a werewolf because of me?” My voice trembled with anger, my breathing growing erratic.
Damn it. I had suspected as much, but hearing it directly from Lucian sent a tremor through my entire body.
“I just wanted to be someone who deserved you,” he said. “I researched werewolves thoroughly. They have incredible abilities, unmatched strength-nothing like fragile humans…”
“No, you didn’t do this for me!” I couldn’t hold back anymore, cutting him off.
A fiery rage surged within me, consuming me like a wildfire. I wanted to hit him, to scream at him.
How dare he blame me for this? Did he seriously think it was my fault he ended up like this?
“Damn it, Lucian!” my voice quivered with fury. “If you genuinely loved me, you wouldn’t have slept with Vivienne! A man who can’t control himself doesn’t deserve to talk about love. Honestly, you make me sick!”
Crude words tumbled from my lips, but I couldn’t help it. When I was angry, I never held back.
My outburst left Lucian visibly paler, his face drained of all color.
“I hope you’ll try to be a better person from now on,” I said coldly. “Don’t harm innocent people. Can you promise me that, Lucian?”
“I won’t hurt anyone,” he said weakly. “I’ll do my best to control myself, Seraph. So… can you forgive me?”
“I’ve already forgiven you, Lucian,” I replied. “But we’ll never be together again. I hope you can let go, too.”
With that, I turned and walked out of the room.
Kael was waiting outside. He must have left earlier to give Lucian some privacy, not wanting him to overhear too much.
Seeing Kael standing there, I thought back to everything Lucian had said. My chest tightened, and an inexplicable ache rose in my throat. My eyes stung, and tears began to blur my vision.
